@@ebl89 The state has to balance things. For example, that water going into the ocean allows salmon to migrate. There has to be some water for nature. It is not waste for rivers to actually have some flow. We take a lot of the water.

You can thank large ag for the over draw from aquifers. Home owners (who have wells) are not the cause. Sorry to say, but almond growers... is one of the WORST crops to grow out here, the water consumption required is so much higher than other crops. Fresno county works year round to try to help re-vitalize the ground water, but the valley is larger than just Fresno country. Central Valley has been dealing with subsidence for YEARS. This is not a new issue. Parts of the CV have dropped over 25 ft.
@robertturner1308

@@timmannchicken Yeah, it is odd to see so many almond trees growing in arid areas of CA where cactus are not even found. An online source I read says 2,000 gallons to produce one pound of almonds which is crazy. That said, it takes 1,847 gallons of water for a pound of beef so those two things are the lowest hanging items for farming reform in CA. Folks on the right will call it “the nanny state” to go after them or anti farming but to me it is just about being efficient and water wise.

And let's also not forget that once the earth sinks and the sub surface compresses it will never hold groundwater in the manner in which it used to because you cannot uncompress the sub surface. It is a massive double whammy.

The state needs to be better. It could grant the City of Visalia millions to build its Eastside Regional Park with its attached water recharge project, saving them tens of millions in subsidence costs. The state also needs to cut and fund suitable projects. Also, no well in Tulare county should be deeper than 150 feet.

Remember every year the vast majority of California`s rainwater flows into the ocean.

So please confirm the final link here. Basically is what you’re saying is if the ground sinks that the canal doesn’t work because water needs to go uphill to another location. Is that what’s going on. They don’t really say how the sinking really causes it to not work
@ikani1

The effort to import gravity fed ocean water into Laguna Salada in Mexico, Salton Sea in California should also include Death Valley about 282 feet below sea level to increase monsonal moisture through evaporation for Colorado Basin. The new technology of cavitation can produce highly competitive hydrogen fueled electricity and the exhaust is free desalinated ocean water should be our focus asap. The valuable waste brine is mineral rich and has numerous commercial applications to incentivize economic prosperity. I like the idea of making water proof building materials with waste salt by Israel University is fantastic for low cost housing. Imagine giant inland sea's for fish farming, algae, carbon sequestration, recreation, monsoonal rainfall and selling the lowest cost zero pollution fuel source making ocean water more valuable than oil thanks to Eirex Tech in Canada a five year old company.

Eventually the groundwater will be replenished and as the weight of the water on the land grows less and less, the ground being spongy will bounce back. It will take 200+ years but this is the price we have to pay for 80 years of just okay produce in California.
