Wow, great video. I've bought a few wrecked cars at Copart but have been afraid to buy any with blown seat airbags, because of the expense. No more fear, thanks!
Invaluable! Bought some 2018 seats with a blown airbag for my 91 Foxbody. Just a note; the newer seats (such as my 2018) have a seat cover slightly easier to remove.
Douglas Fernandez sometimes i think i wasted my time in college because of RU-vid haha. Thanks. Btw my dream project is 67 fastpack mustang on 2016 mustang.
Thank you Sr. for your time, I have a Ford Fusion Titanium 2014 and the way to replace the seat side airbag is the same, I look to your video because is a mustang and think the ford get this way from mustang to fusion and looking at the service manual is for sure, so thank you so much for that!!!
Outstanding instructional thank-you very much! I have owned my '95 Mustang GTS for 19 years now that I love and am restoring.... there are Mustang forums that show how to retrofit these seats into my chassis. A local salvage yard has a 2013 mustang with airbags deployed. They are cloth seats (but still in very good conditon).... So, before I buy them, I wanted to know how to disassemble the seat to have the seams repaired....this is a good tutorial because I do not want to put "Boy Racer" style seats from the aftermarket in my car.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Armani Zayne thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@@douglasfernandez7996 thanks Douglas visited your great country as a young kid in the early 70s with my family my father bought a chevy camper van and we traveled for 10months seeing all the important sights Have great memorys of it and would like to visit again inthe future again You obviously have great skill and knowledge to do your conversion Will check out other videos to see how it is going if tbey are available Did you hook up any of the eletrics that operate the seats up That is my next headache to see if possible Thanks again.
@@gregdean2012 I spent a week visiting your country a few years ago. I still have great memories . If you look up Shoebox Ford Gen 6 you will find 10 chapters of my 1951 Ford/stang. Since I did not cut any wires on my mustang wreck during the rebuild. I was able to plug and play every option the mustang had in to the 1951 Ford body. Good luck with your project.
There’s Silver tube looking item inside where the air bag is located. Identical to the piece you picked up in this video and mentioned it was from your roof. Does this also need to be replaced when replacing the air bag? Thanks Doug!
I have not notice any stitch length change at the air bag locations . I would guess the upholstery shop used a weaker thread to comply with factory specs to allow the air bag to deploy as designed.
i actually picked up a very comfortable bucket seat from the junk yard to turn it into a desk chair, and my main concern is that that air bags might randomly go off at my desk and looking at how i can disable or remove them since they never went off.
The air bag can only go off with an electrical charge like a fire cracker needs to be lit with fire before it explodes. During an accident satellite switches sense the direction of the impact and send a high voltage current to the approiate air bags. Since the wires were disconnected to remove the seat there is no chance of deployment unless someone intentionally hot wires it. You can always tape of the wire plug ends if you think someone might try that. .
Had a question about seat airbags, I want to put another set of seats in my car, they are from a car that one year newer, still same car as mine but different color, better material seats than the ones I have now, my question is I know about disconnecting the battery before removing reinstalling the seats, does the airbag in the new seat have to be "coded" to the vehicle?
Check to see if both air bags have the same part numbers to make sure they are compatible with the comparator. In most cases the Computor will self program when the battery is reconnected. If not you can have your local dealer do this.
Was it hard to put the replacement seat air bag in? Wish you showed a video on that. And were there any challenges on putting the cover back on? Like when you cut the rings. Also was there any damage on the cover from taking it out like that? (Creases and such) thanks
The new air bag simply Plugs and bolts back in , in the reverse order that you removed it. I will try to make another video on putting it together but I am on vacation now and away from the project. You can see the project progress on RU-vid Shoebox Ford Gen 6 chapters 1 , 2 , 3, 4 to date
@@douglasfernandez7996 Thanks for the help! It's amazing to see your project and I hope the best of luck to you. I just ordered seat air bags and am waiting on them and this video is huge help.
Hey, Just bought seats from a 2018-2020 going to put them in my 65 mustang. Just want to run the electric seat adjustment and lumbar. Can I just leave the airbag in and unplugged it has not been deployed. I think I have identified the large connector that provides the power to the adj and lumbar. Am I correct that the airbag connector is separate from this large connector?
@@douglasfernandez7996 Cool do I need the safety plug some are talking about? To keep the airbag from going off due to static electricity? Can you tell me what pins in the large connector go to? Thanks so much for your reply. These seats are going to be cool and they have the Word Mustang on them.
@@bryanstettler1147 I would just tape off the air bag plug so you don't accidentally set the air bag off while wiring the rest of the electric seat options. There are sites on RU-vid to show you how to wire electric seats. You can use a 12v battery to chase out the various circuit operations once you find the ground wire.
So... The title says "replacing" airbags but you only showed how to take the cover off. Are you planning on a video where you actually replace the airbags and put it all together?
Sorry but I did not think doing a video on installing the air bags was necessary because it is just a reverse action of the taking them apart. The important information I was trying to tell was where all the attaching parts could be found and how they came apart. If you are attempting to replace your own air bag and are not sure I suggest you take a photo of each disassembly step and make a note on how it came a part. This way as you reassemble each step you can refer to how it works. You could also watch the video in reverse by just stop starting it at each point of interest .The only part you have to be carful of is attaching the white. plastic strap clamps that are attach to the newly sewed seam. [ These are shown a little after 8 minutes into my video ] They must be on their respective sides as they wrap around the frame or you will not be able to attach them. They hold the cover in place as the air bag deploys and rips thru the seam. After the cover is on you will have to slap it around with your palm to seat the cover and reattach the velcro. Hope this helps you
@@douglasfernandez7996 Thanks for posting up this video. I'm coming from the import world and found this video informative. Do you notice whether the stitch material/method was any different where the airbag was? I'm wondering whether anything is done there to facilitate airbag deployment.
Tascaparts.com is the Webb site I use. I don't think 2012 mustang had seat air bags if that is what you are looking for. It is unlikely you will find any use airbags for seats. If you are looking for used airbags other than seats, check with local junk yards that have on line search systems.
