Replacing a failed gas control valve and pilot assembly on a gas water heater. Parts were under warranty. #plumbing #plumber #trades #gas #trades #howto #repair #waterheater
I did this on my water heater several months ago. The electronics failed in the control and even after trying a new circuit board the control still failed. I found a used control and valve on Craigslist luckily. I replaced the entire valve, and it wasn't an exact fit but it worked and it's still working now. I wonder why you didn't replace the drain valve with a ball valve, as you described in other videos. Also I was wondering with this type of water heater, can you remove the drain valve and vacuum out the sediment? I've seen you do that in other videos. I haven't been draining my water heater and I'm interested in cleaning out the tank, if possible. Thanks for the content. Keep up the good work.
There is a 'gear' icon to the right below the red progress bar. You click it and can set the speed of the playback. The options go from 0.25 speed to 2.0 speed. I would try to set it at 0.25 for the slowest speed.
The tank has to be drained because in the back of the gas valve is the thermostat sending unit that goes into a hole in the tank. The sending unit sticks into the tank so that it can give feedback to the control unit as to what the temperature of the water is. I did this same repair on my water heater several months ago. I found out the hard way that I needed to drain the tank when I began to loosen the gas valve and saw the water begin to drip out, then it dawned on me that was the thermostat going into the tank.
