A video tutorial on how to replace a Maco window lock centre gearbox, Maco lock centre gearbox's can be purchased from UPVC Spares 4 Repairs at: upvcspares4rep...
An informative video. I thought you would have to remove the side push racks to access the locking mechanism and this video shows how to do it. For some windows you may have to work from a ladder so only do this if you are within your comfort zone.
Hi labour of love unfortunately. You need to get a flat scraper or such between the sash and frame and try to knock the lock cams out of the keep if you can get to one of them not necessarily the jammed one you might find it also drives the whole lock plate and moves them open. It is also prudent to remove the glass first from the sash as this is likely to break if over stressed and allows a lot more flex between the sash and frame. But the trick is slowly and gently so as not to over stress the sash and crack it.
There is a trick where you can put a fine allen key held with mole grips into the gap and lift up the bottom roller. Seeing that these mechanisms when they break, mean the window is locked closed, fitting them in low rise flats etc where you might need the open window as an escape route is madness. However city councils do fit them. Perhaps they are cheap or something.
