Loved your video. I had a similar situation with being a fast reader or reading a lot and then the books, once finished, become almost a burden because I don't want to keep them around. So I got myself a Kindle. I still read physical books but the Kindle has been really useful for me.
@SofiaAbrantes

Completely get that! I buy the books I really think are a special addition to my library, and just read on kindle the ones meant for quick entertainment 🥰

I have a kobo and I absolutely love it. My partner has a little collection of books, and I only own a couple of coffee table reads. But I love reading digitally because I can take my e-reader with me wherever I go. I read a lot of fantasy, and they tend to be larger books that just don’t fit in my purse. I love keeping our physical book collection super minimal. I also feel like I’m contributing to way less waste. I’m currently using a Kobo Touch which is just over 10 years old. I’m looking forward to mine dying so I can upgrade to one that has the backlighting so I can read in the dark while my partner sleeps. Also love the built in dictionary as well! So nice how fast you can look up definitions!
@SofiaAbrantes
@SofiaAbrantes 3 года назад
Yes!! I literally have it on me on all times and the books I read also tend to be huge so I completely feel you on the whole “not practical to take everywhere” thing. The backlighting has been more practical than I thought, especially in dark environments🥰

I bought a kindle (an actual kindle) a few months ago and oh boy do I love it! I was hesitant because I love books and the feel of them, but now honestly I prefer the kindle. I can read in bed next to my sleeping daughter and not disturb her, I ditched looking at the phone every night and instead I read a book and sleep better. Plus! There are so many places you can find cheap, discounted and free books online! Also, you can also read pdf on kindle, just saying. LOVE IT! And thanks for the book suggestions, will look them up now!
@SofiaAbrantes

That's so weird that you can read PDFs on Kindle, I could swear everywhere said no? Interesting though, really happy to hear it works for you too 🥰 I also noticed reading on my side is soooo much easier on an ereader (like in bed) whereas with a real book it's awkward. Love that too!
@AnjaTodorovic
@AnjaTodorovic 3 года назад
@@SofiaAbrantes A real book, as much as I love it, is all sorts of awkward. I can rest my kindle on my lap and keep on snacking with my free hands! With a book you can't do that. But the best of all is reading in the dark, that's life changing for me!

Awesome! I just got a kindle and I just pretty much read an entire novel (Jurassic Park) in about a week - the first novel I’ve read since maybe high school, and I’m 29. Currently on the verge of buying a Kindle. My plan is since not all books are supported Well as Ebooks, I'm going to use both physical and ebooks for reading, and ill prolly get whatever based on my feeling. Plus books are way cheaper on kindle and it helps save so much money. I'm definitely gonna get one now.

Fully agree with all this. I love my Kobo too because I can read a lot more with no weight. I live in Japan at the moment and getting English books is difficult. Even the biggest book stores will only have a few aisles of English novels, and the prices you pay are inflated since they're imported. I tend to read a lot of obscure books too, so those are best to read via ebook rather than wait weeks for shipping. I also read so much more now, since I can use my parents library. Just use their american address and got a library card. The one thing I like collecting (but not owning) is behind the scenes photo books of favorite tv shows, etc. Japan has services where I can send books and magazines to be scanned digitally, so I still 'own' them just not in my apartment. I hope to do this when I can get a tablet....
@SofiaAbrantes
@SofiaAbrantes 2 года назад
Wow that's so cool that you can have those digitally! Would definitely use that if I could as well. And I can relate to you on the English books - I have the same problem living in Portugal sometimes. I also like the convenience of instantly being able to start a book someone recommends without having to physically go out and buy it or wait for the delivery. Hope you have a lovely day 🥰

I've been using a 4th Gen Kindle since 2011 and have recently bought a 10th Gen, White, no ads and no fingerprints and I love it. I much prefer reading via the Kindle, I never tire of it. BTW, you can email PDFs to your Kindle email address and you can get them (if they're books) to look exactly like a Kindle Download, format wise, by inserting the word "convert" into the subject of the email. The only downside then, is that you can't navigate straight to chapters, or skip through chapters. But, I've saved myself a ton by doing this and most "classics" are available via this method. Mind you, plenty of them are free on the Kindle Store anyway! 😋📚

In my opinion I don't think so! Depends on your lifestyle truly. For example: if you'll be reading a lot near bodies of water (pool, ocean, etc) I would recommend looking into a waterproof one. If you struggle to read you might want to invest in a bigger one so you can make the letters bigger. Other than that I would actually argue that cheaper is better because, at least to me, it makes me less afraid to bring it everywhere with me (in case I get robbed). I would much prefer to lose my ereader than my ipad. Hope this helps!

I find it interesting that you mentioned Kindle in your title but actually use Kobo. I like that as I too am biased towards Kobo. Currently, as of late 2021, I see e-readers as supplemental to physical books. I’m a bit surprised every time I see books by some of my favorite authors either being available as low-quality e-books (with TONS of formatting and typographical errors) or not available at all. The second downside is art and photography books - those will need at least a hi-res, big screen tablet. The third is electricity/battery and available WiFi to download your books. For me, the main downside to Kobo is that those devices rarely ever go on discounts here in the US. Even used, they cost more than a comparable Kindle or even Nook device. It’s not so much a quality of device issue, but a matter of scarcity. There just aren’t that many Kobo devices out there… Example: I got a used 32GB Paperwhite 4 with a leather cover for 110 USD. I won’t find that same deal for a Libra H2O, ever. That being said, I own more than a few of these devices and love them all 🦄🌈🌈🍀

I have been reading ebooks on my iPad for the last 6yrs and am waiting until the paperwhite 5 goes on sale to get a kindle, it will be so much better for my eyes and distraction level. I have the same policy about hard copy books lol, I have a handful that I get at second hand stores but mostly just get the books I really love. I like hard copies but find that my attention span for it has decreased significantly, I used to be able to just read a book for hours now I find myself something else at the same time. I’ve also noticed that while I read faster my brain doesn’t settle on the “page” when on my iPad compared to reading paper, almost like I skate across it rather than walking if that makes sense. Does anyone else notice this?

@SofiaAbrantes
@SofiaAbrantes 2 года назад
Hi Fergus! Yes as I pinned above I realized that after but truthfully I continue to prefer the Kobo to the Kindle because of things like pricing (both the ereader and the Kobo Plus subscription), accessibility where I bought it (Kobos are available in most major electronic retailers here, Kindles only on Amazon) amongst other reasons. You need to get Bookbub to get free books. Also search yourself on Amazon for free books. Great way to get books that introduce a series or new author. I still have my book collection that I gathered because libraries never had the entire series by an author, but I only use it if the library doesn't have my book for the kindle or hardback. If you travel obviously you have given up on books because I would stuff 6 books in my luggage and still run out. You try buying a book in Alaska. Also the great thing about it is reading at night and you do not disturb anyone with a light. I would also get embarrassed when a science fiction author would change publisher and suddenly bare chests were on the cover instead of leather clothes and a motorcycle while I was reading on the bus. I read one book a day so I used to buy used books. Now I switch back and forth between the ebooks from the library and Kindle Unlimited on Amazon with some purchased books thrown in. You need Overdrive from your library to get their ebooks and my sister who lives in a primitive part of Ireland (which is most of it) cannot get it since the library pays for the service. Unfortunately Overdrive purchased an audio company and now a ton of books are in that format which is nuts since it would take weeks to get through an audio book instead of one night. I am so mad because I now use Kindle Unlimited a lot and the author and book I am looking for is almost always in audio format on Overdrive. They have no way to permanently turn off seeing them. I hope they lose a ton of business. I can see audio books for driving on a freeway for a couple of house commuting but I would prefer music. Music is also less distracting and better to do work by. I hate audio books. I have tried turning it up to chipmunk speed.
