The video was great for taking apart the weed eater. I've run into a slight problem, when trying to remove the old clutch it will not unscrew with a wrench, as I apply pressure to the wrench counter clockwise as shown it seems to break free but the shaft turns one revolution and it is at the point to apply more pressure. In other words it kinda skips one revolution but never breaks free. I have the rope down in the cylinder where the spark plug was. I thought it was connected to the main shaft on the motor , I wonder if there is another piece between the clutch and motor that could be slipping? Edit: Should have paid more attn to how much rope to put in the cylinder, maint. calls for 18". Great video and I am up and running!

My is BL110, but clutch is inside the housing. I would like to know, how to remove shaft adapter? So I can go inside to replace the clutch.

They must have modified the trimmer. I no longer own this trimmer though it served me well. What were the signs that the clutch needed to be replaced?

I have this same model. when its set to 2 and i start it and the engine sounds normal. When i switch over to 3 and i hit the throttle the heads spin but about 40% less speed and power than it used to. Clutch issue?

It is quite possible that it is a clutch issue. If the engine spinning up to full speed and the head is not giving you proper speed your clutch is most likely slipping. Thanks.

How do you know if its the clutch that is bad? My trimmer was working fine but seemed to be getting really hot and smelled like something was burning up then it stopped really spinning like it was. I took the head off and cleaned all the stuff that was wrapped around head (there was a lot of stuff too, even some fishing line and lots of old grass/weeds). I put it back together cleaned and she still doesn't want to spin like before. THinking its the clutch? thanks for any hlep

On mine the head would barely spin and or stop the second it met some resistance. The rope locks the piston so that you can tighten the locking nut on the clutch. Thanks.

+Jose DeLaCruz Unfortunately the only fix for a broken shaft is to replace it. Here is my shaft at Amazon MTD 791-181166 Asm Flexible Drive Shaft amzn.to/1q8S94i make sure that it is the right one for your trimmer before you order it. There is a tool on the page to confirm it. Thanks.

All my ten minute jobs turn into two hour jobs. Yeah, just turn that clutch nut off, right?? No, Bolens decided to glue it on. I tried penetrating oil, heating with propane, grinding half the nut off, and a good 100 ft-lbs of torque. I finally chucked it in a vise and chiseled it apart. It's pretty hard and brittle. The new nut & spring assembly screwed right on because I didn't damage the threads or shaft.
