Thank you guys for this perfect description. I like to add a short hint, that might help... Those two sticks that hold the headlights in position should be greased a bit to prevent corrosion. Might be useful in countries where they salt the roads in wintertime. ;-) AND IMPORTANT: NEVER EVER TOUCH THE BULBS!
Very good video,it took me a while to disconnect the block connector but that was me being careful. A couple of points about the bulbs. I went to the local NAPA motor factor and was charged £41 for one bulb which was own brand. On the internet well reviewed pattern parts are less for two bulbs.Second point if your plastic headlamp lenses are getting misty you may wish to refurb them with the headlamps out
Good video as always! Just remember that when you turn on the lights for the first time they have to be on for a minimum of 3 minutes so they last longer.
Great video as alwasy! I would like to mention that Philips or Osram are not aftermarket bulbs. They are 100% identical to the factory lights but you can get them much cheaper than genuine Volvo.
Excellent mate, thank you for sharing this vid. as commented earlier this is very easy compared to other manufacturers. So glad I bought my Volvo XC70.
Thank you so much. It was initially watching this video that gave me the confidence to buy a new Xenon Bulb and try fitting it myself . The video was so good, I had no difficulties in replacing the bulb in 15 minutes !! Mike Hill
@@marcusjosefsson4998 mine went out on me. Looking at an afternoon of work and $200+ for the assembly or pay god-knows-how much for a dealership to do it
The Volvo owners manual says Xenon bulb replacement must be handled by a workshop because of the high voltage unit. There was no mention of high voltage in the video. Is there any danger and how to avoid it?
Nice, I went from stock 4300K to 5000K led look...zero zero blue just brighter white. Hate blue. You do loose a tiny bit of strength but its a good balance between practicality and “looks”... Nice video, thank you.
Great Video, thanks. My 2013 with adaptive Xenon lights what would be the high beam DO NOT Function.... Though I wish there was a way to get them to come on with my high beams??
have XC70 P2 2006 with D1S 35W 5000K bulbs like this one, except I cannot find the clip that holds it in place. The headlight housing in not removable, so i can't see much anyways. Any ideas?
Hi, thanks for this great video. Now I will confidently replace my lamps. However I still have one doubt. I am about to order the same lamp model from Philips but when I read the spec in their Web site they indicate that it can be used both for high and low beams; does this mean that this is a bi-xenon lamp? My XC70 has a separate H7 halogen lamp for high beam, so can I still use this model from Philips just for the low beam or will I get some kind or error from the centralite?
Found out yesterday that the halogen lamp comes on at the same time that the xenon lamp becomes more intense when activating the high beam. So this reassures what I read in the net that the xenon light is permanently on high beam with part of the beam being mechanically shaded inside the headlight casing. When the lever is pulled in the cockpit this activates the halogen lamp and the Mechanical barrier in front of the xenon bulb moves away to allow more light out. This would explain why the new lamp box indicates valid for both low and high beams. I am replacing the lamps tomorrow so will confirm then.
I'm having trouble figuring out a problem with one of Xeon bulbs. The passenger side bulb seems like it is brighter than the driver side. Any ideas what I should look at. I've looked at the wiring but, I don't know where they go and cannot find the ground.
Hi, do you know if the headlight beam angle is adjustable...my drivers side (uk) points too far to the right! The abl on the right also moves less than the left. Thanks
The easiest headlight bulb change ever kind of lol the fact Volvo did that to remove the entire assembly is wild and crazy who else is doing that good on Volvo they should have kept doing this maybe others manufacturers would have followed instead of making it so hard like taking off fender liner or a wheel or a bumper.
I have a s80 n im tryn to change the whole head light or the bulb yr 07 s80. N my bulb is d1i have a shortage some where. So its best i change the whole headlight. I ride on bright
Thanks again for another great video! I changed all position lights as well to LED but my volvo keeps giving me the position light error message. All lights work, any clue how to eliminate the error message?
I'm sure it's way too late now but for anyone else: the position lights are usually the "side marker" lights found in the front / rear bumper at the fender. You might not even notice it's a light, you might think it's just a reflector.
I noticed there are no rubber seals on top of the headlights. Are they removed\lost or the 2015 model doesn't have them anymore? Great video by the way!
No, only a system which automatically turns off the high beams when it sees another car was available. There was also an option called active bending lights (ABL) which turns the headlights along with the steering wheel but i'm not sure if that was offered in north america.
Hello, Please can you tell me the part number on the Volvo xc70? It is a front mask with radar and has a six-angle pattern. Thank you very much J. Lukacovic
The later model years have clear sidemarkers, this car is from 2015 so it probably had them from the factory, can't imagine someone buying new headlights just for the clear sidemarker.
when replacing one of these Ive read that you should replace in pairs...is this true or just an angle at selling more bulbs? asking as one of mine has just gone down & dont want to buy a pair if not really needed
Well, it's not necessary but recommended. Recommendation is based mainly on two factors: 1) Bulbs usually have roughly the same lifespan. If one is done for, chances are the other will break pretty soon too. 2) Xenon/HID-bulbs slightly changes color when nearing the end of their lifespan. The light gets weaker and develops a more reddish tint the older the bulb gets, thus the light turns purple/pink. A phenomenon known as "pink eye" that'll have a negative affects on light output. But besides from that there's no reason for changing a perfectly good xenon bulb. If you're satisfied with the good one, keep it. But inspect the light first, if you've got pink eye you should change it.
@@volvosweden Suppose you don't have lot's of scrap yards/breaker yards with heaps of Volvo's in Canada? Here in Sweden you can make some bargain deals from time to time, parts are plentyful here. I've made some upgrades on my '11 V70 R-Design with cheap used (but in extremely good shape) parts from scrap yards. I'm really not that into making videos of my projects, but perhaps I should be? Have done some really nice, and cheap, upgrades: 2015 illuminated shifter, with some extra mods. Swapped out the entire shifter assembly. Also replaced the leather part of the gear knob to one with perforated leather, just to keep the R-Design sporty style. Also swapped the shifter gaiter/boot to one with white stitching, it fits my black/white R-Design seats perfectly. Then I found a complete armrest console on my go-to scrap yard. It's the newer one with LED-ligts in the cupholder. It also had the aluminum rolling cover over the cupholders. Really nice with the original R-Design aluminum trim panels! I also swapped out the armrest cover lid, but this came from an S80 Executive so it had the white stitching too. Also installed the LED-ligts just above the inside door handles, also from the S80 Executive. To complete the interior I swapped the original four spoke R-Design steering wheel for a three spoke steering wheel from an XC60 R-Design. With, you guessed it, white stitching. I've done some other mods too, like replacing the front fog lights with XC70 LED DRL's, tail light module etc.
I was wondering if it's possible to just replace the factory halogen headlight assembly with a factory Xenon assembly since all the electronic modules appear to be within the headlight assembly. I'd like to convert my 2010 V70 R-Design halogens into Xenon's. If it's just a headlight assembly swap I'm sure it would require a software upgrade too.
@@pclayton5063 you could check on forums.swedespeed.com, someone there made a guide of how he switched his 2013 xc70 from halogen to xenon with ABL, that is a car from after the 2013 facelift though
replaced the bulb but damn it did not work .. on the bottom site of the lamp case there are 2 square aluminum boxes .think some power . one I replaced the biggest ,.. and it was workling fine after that
Over time (years) they slowly get less and less bright. I replaced the xenon bulbs in my parents' car because they got very dim and were pretty useless. You could think about changing them when they are getting older and you notice the low light output or when they actually break like described in the other replies.
Easy to remove. Easy to steal. In my city thieves drive around and steal these headlights with tens per night - including mine. I have to find a way to prevent them from doing it again ..
