Carhartt in like new condition, a GSP, Filson..tell me you're a hipster without telling me you're a hispter. All jokes aside, nice pack! Was thinking about getting one, then came across the North Bay from Frost River. A LOT cheaper, made in USA, has zippers and I got mine in black waxed canvas.
Like you George, I’m a bag nut, Frost River, Duluth pack, Nutsack, Fjallraven, Pack Animal, 511, Flint & Tinder, ALPAKA Tuff Pussum, The Hidden Woodsman, Vertx, Maxpedition, Viktos , Vanquest, and a few more. I have allot of bags, and appreciate a great bag. In the last few years Filson has made bad decisions, that was one of them, first they did away with the leather piece that holds the straps to your back, then…, not sure why they started making the journeyman overseas. I fear Filson will be one of those iconic companies that will ultimately fall. They still make their Mckenaw line of clothing and accessories here, but I’m sorry don’t fool the customer sending products once made here, charging top dollar and then hide that from the public. I had a hard time getting them to fess up. Happy NY George..
They’ve had several changes of ownership over the last couple of decades. It’s not the same company or ethic. Their heavy wool stuff is still good, their twill and canvas stuff is good too, but yes, the prices have long gone bonkers. For the money they charge, I would expect them to be fabricated domestically.
Hello, I use to have the leather version and sold it 😢. I find my self never feel confidence with the front pocket. I wish they did something different with it. But I regret selling it!
A great pack from Filson. Solid build quality and will last a long while. Good to hear Huckberry is carrying them too. The pack reminds of my old college Jansport pack - floppy but comfortable. Wish they did a bridle leather bottom on this pack. But that would just add more weight. Good review sir. Happy Holidays.
I have an Otter Green Journeyman that was made in 2019. There's just no substitute for how it looks and carries. All the other heritage backpacks I've looked at are ugly ducklings compared to the Journeyman. Yes it sucks that it's now made in Vietnam (although comparing a MiV to my MiUSA one there is no discernible difference in quality) and yes it also sucks that the newer Journeymans come with an annoying 'Filson' branding patch on the bottom right corner- it just means I will hold on to mine for as long as I can!
oh no...400 dollar bags are an absolute no. I like a bag that lasts but I also like to think practically and a lot of inexpensive bags will fit the bill if you look for the right attributes. They can serve just as well especially if you mod them with a needle and thread.
Christ is this for real? I legitimately have like 4 of these.. I could prob prove it if anyone was sincerly interested. Maybe I'll post them on my insta.
