Of course it’s an expensive bag - most of their gear has escalated in pricing over the years. But they do offer sales - right now they’re 20% to 30% off on various bags. Best of luck.

I was going back and forth between the tan and the olive colors until I settled on olive, the tan does look amazing too though... what a gorgeous bag... Not the most comfortable one I have, not the most versatile one I have, but it's just the nicest.

So glad you reviewed this bag! I picked it up this year to replace my old Grey Man Canvas bag that had completely fallen apart. I got the Olive green which is great but I think I still love the Tan. For those looking at this bag I highly recommend. I also got a leather laptop sleeve to add some padding to the for the laptop. Overall I love the bag. The zippers are chunky and don't catch but aren't super smooth. I've had it out in the weather and it did fine but you want to make sure the small pocket is closed and tucked it. Yes. Expensive. I waited till they had a sale, but of all the heritage bags out there this one is great. Also got a GoRuck heritage (my other favorite bag) but sold in favor of this. Thanks for the review! So happy to see you walk through it and love your points!

Thanks for sharing your experience!!! Love when folks who have had more time with a bag than me chime in to share thoughts. The price is really the only downside - otherwise it’s a really nice bag!

Definitely agree with the straps and grab handle. Thought about adding some foam to the straps on mine. Not sure what to do about the handle though.

I payed 380,- € (olive) and for me it's worth the money. I own a lot of Backpacks, also form TUMI. The TUMI will be technically the better Backpack, but the Filson feels and looks so much betther. Another point is that, the Filson will age very good, its a Produkt for life. Sorry for my bad Language.😬 Greetings from Germany and thank you for the review.

I love filson items and i feel dirty for saying the line but here it goes: "damn they are overpriced." I did nab some stuff during black friday and christmas sales (returned due to sizing issues) and while the discounts were substantial, prices were still higher than other comparable items

I think that's the key. You need to get a deal - and the deal isn't a deal, it is getting it down to reasonable territory.

Worth the money, in 10 years time that bag will be worth over $400, the goruck will be worth $25.

I don't mind paying Filson prices since they are repairable and will legitimately last for years- if not decades. I'm already 15 years deep into an original briefcase I got when I left University and I have no doubt it will last another 15 years, at least. Anything breaks or tears and it's literally just leather, canvas, or brass- which can all be repaired or replaced and the Filson Repair Department has had decades worth of experience to back it up. Without knocking on them, I don't know if you can say the same for anything on that wall behind you. Xpac on that Evergoods gets cut and it will probably be too much trouble to repair. If that Tweave material on that Citadel rips- I'm not too confident GWA will repair it. TBB is infamous for skirting around bankruptcy several times now, not to mention their CS is hit or miss. That fancy MR x Carryology collab has about zero chance of being replaced should it need to be so you know once it's gone- it's gone for good.

I bought the journeyman on a trip to DC at one of their stores. I wore it one time. ONE TIME. I tried to return it immediately after because the straps did not fit comfortably for long-term wear. I'm a woman, I have no idea if that is part of the issue but the bag sags even when the straps are at their tightest and it's uncomfortable. I told Filson that I had worn the item. I was very clear about the situation. I sent the bag back. They sent it back to me saying it was not saleable because it was worn. Yeah I told them that. I contacted customer service again because I can't beleive that a $500 bag isn't returnable after 1 use. I was denied again. They say it's their 'policy'. WTF kinda policy is that? They don't care at all about customer satisfactions. So yes I have a very expensive, cool looking, uncomfotable bag that I can't travel with as planned. I will never spend money with them again.

That’s pretty bad. Have you considered looking at trading it in an online group? I hate that you have to go that route instead of a flat return.

I had the Olive and loved this bag except one important thing. The zippers can be dangerous. I cut my hand a few times as the zippers are like little teeth.

Exactly, at least you paid allot before but it was US made, now not worth the money, and it use to have a leather strip holding the straps, now just material. But something made in America…

@@missymew83 You may have to punch extra holes in the leather straps though to increase adjustability for your smaller frame so you can tighten the straps up even more. I'm 6'2 but thin and even I had to punch a few extra holes in the straps.

I did order it & it shows it will be here by the end of this week. Did you punch the holes yourself & if so, can you please tell me what type of leather puncher you used? I could take it somewhere, but for the price of the bag I would prefer to do it myself.

@@missymew83 I went to a leatherwork/cobbler shop and I had them punch three holes in each strap. It went very quickly and it was like 10 bucks.
