Replacing our RV Slide Seal Weather Stripping on our Leaking RV | RV DIY to Replace Slide Out Seals

One of our RV slide out seals were leaking due to old weather stripping. Replacing our RV slide seal weather stripping was actually fairly easy and doing it ourselves saved us a pretty penny. We also made sure to grab rubber conditioner to keep the new slide seals from deteriorating faster. Here's how it went...
Primary Seal- Seal on RV Wall - amzn.to/2UbrohV
Secondary Seal- Seal on slide itself - amzn.to/3box26e
RV Rubber Conditioner - amzn.to/2UtGqi4
We have a Keystone Cougar with 3 slides and only needed one roll of each seal. We had a little left over, but it probably wouldn't have been enough if we had a fourth slide. Make sure to measure to insure you order enough for your rig.

Have you checked your RV slide out seals lately? Do you condition your seals and other weather stripping?

Holy crap! Thank you for showing me this! I’m new to all of this and it’s just me and my slide out didn’t even have the one on the furthest part that’s out just the ones that are against the rig. I would’ve never known. 🙏

Most rvs only have one slide out seal - either on the rv or on the slide out itself, but not both. There are only a few rvs that have two slideout seals.

They're putting that on the hard way. The outside seal will just slide in from the end, instead of wedging it in like he is. Just did mine, MUCH easier.

That's awesome yours was able to do that! We didn't have that option with ours. There was no where to start sliding it in from.

Thanks! We really want to do a full glow up of the inside, but probably won't for a while unless we make it back in there full time. Fixing up just the essentials to keep us adventuring for now!

FYI, the seal slides in from either side, not pressed in from outside for the whole length.slideing it from the side takes a couple of minutes,vs 20 min of pressing it in

We had to pull really hard for it to do that and it stretched it, we didn't want to rub it or cause friction and pulling that might break it down. This seemed the better option.

Silicone or Vaseline would help it slide into the channel

Can you please post the Amazon link to the seals you purchases?
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 4 года назад
Hey Shawn, all of the product links are in the video description, but double check to make sure the primary seal is the right one for your rig. This is the one we got- amzn.to/2UbrohV but some rigs have slightly different primary seals. The secondary seal (the one attached directly to the slide) should be the same either way- amzn.to/3box26e. Hope your project goes smoothly!

What size seals did you use , the flat one and tube one? Thx
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 10 месяцев назад
The exact size we used are linked in the description. Let me double check though. Flat seal was the 2" wiper option- amzn.to/46DSgK2 and for the tube it measured 4.5 x 16 x 15 - amzn.to/3Frp8di (the exact one we used) Hope that helps!

What is the rubber conditioner for?
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 2 месяца назад
It keeps the seals conditioned and helps them from breaking down due to elements and the heat.

Where were you seeing the water inside? I have been having water on my carpet in both corners of both of my slides. It's not in the slide but on the floor of the RV and its at the repair place right now. They are telling me I have a roof leak but doesn't make sense to me. It's been sitting at their place for three weeks and it's rained heavily at least 6 times since it's been there. When I called to voice my concerns about it sitting out in the rain he said, no problem because the slides are pulled in. WHAT?? What does the slides being pulled in have to do with a roof leak? I'm afraid they can't find the leak and are going to charge me $1100 to 'scrape and reseal (spray) the roof. And now something he said is pinging around in my head. He said something a couple weeks ago about it being a rubber roof. But its no... it's fiberglass. I have a bad feeling about this. That is why I'm asking where you noticed the leak inside....
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 4 года назад
Hey Ruthie, I am so sorry about that! I would definitely see about taking somewhere for a second opinion. It does not sound like a roof leak to me, especially if they are saying that with the slides in it's not an issue? It just sounds fishy. Our leak was in the center of the slide where the water was coming up under the rubber when the wind would blow because the seals were so worn out. I would ask them to show you the issue with the roof that is causing the leak before letting them do any work. Just better to be safe and double check them! Do they have good reviews?
@ashleymcelfresh8550

@Rustie so what was the problem? We noticed water on floor too during rain but doubt it’s the roof
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 3 года назад
@@ashleymcelfresh8550 Yeah our issue wasn't the roof either! It was just getting up under our slide seals where they were rotten out. If it was windy enough they would lift and the rain would get in that way. Haven't had an issue since replacing them. Hopefully Rusty was able to get the issue taken care of without replacing the full roof.

If it helps any it was the city water intake valve leaking on the inside. So whenever we are using any type Of water it was slowly leaking on the inside. Hard to see bc it’s on the other side of the water heater. Til our part arrives we have pulled it out and let it leak outside 🙄 still closing up seams, caulking and adding skies since we are semi-full time

I notice you have some sort of eternabond tape on the external part of the slide that buts up to the outer slide trim. I notice the “seal” on that section is more like a foam. How’s the tape holding up? Thank you 🙏
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 3 года назад
Hey Matthew, do you mean the small strips of Flex Tape we have used for repairing patches? This (amzn.to/39P3yAB)? If so it has held up super well! We have used it on multiple parts of the RV and it's been holding strong for 2+ years. We are skeptical of the "as seen on TV" stuff, but this actually does what it promises. You can seem more of the spots we've used it on in our Easy RV Roof Repair video. We would definitely recommend keeping a roll on hand in the RV!
@matthewhooks452
@matthewhooks452 3 года назад
It’s brand name is Eternabond for RV roofs. Permanent. I’ve considered just putting it on the seals around the slide to prevent any future issues
@LifesSweetJourney
@LifesSweetJourney 3 года назад
@@matthewhooks452 Got ya; that was factory installed then. We didn't actually do that one ourselves, but it has held up really well! It was a used rig when we got her and we have now had her for 3 years and still going strong

Are the seals all the same from manufacturer to manufacturer? I have a heartland p.o.s.

I am not 100% sure about that. I would check what you have and make sure they look like the picture of what you are ordering but I would think they should be the same.
