Replacing the Clutch Cable in my V8 1984 Mustang GT-350 Foxbody

I'm working on my 1984 GT350 Mustang, which is a pretty special car. Originally, it was a four-cylinder turbo T-top with a 5-speed transmission. But now, it's rocking a V8 engine! My son was driving it the other day when suddenly, there was a pop - it turns out the clutch cable had given out. Not a great situation.
I had to address this issue immediately. So, I decided to document the process of replacing the clutch cable. This car means a lot to me, and some of you might be interested in how these things are done. The car has a unique history, being one of the few that were built like this.
I know this process might seem daunting, but trust me, it's all about taking it step by step. I started by jacking up the car and accessing the clutch cable assembly. There were some bolts to undo and a bit of maneuvering to get the old cable out. Then, I went underneath to unhook the cable from the throw-out bearing.
I must admit, working on older cars can be a bit of a puzzle. You have a mix of metric and standard measurements, which can be confusing. But it's all part of the fun, right? I had to ensure everything was lined up properly and did not interfere with anything else under the car.
Replacing the cable wasn't overly complicated, but there were moments when I had to improvise a bit. I ran into some challenges getting the new cable routed correctly, but I got it in place with some patience and adjustments.
During the process, I noticed an oil leak issue that I must address later. It's not uncommon with older cars, and it's all part of the journey. After all was said and done, I tested out the clutch - it felt great, and I was relieved that the cable replacement was a success.
This project was a bit unexpected, but it's all part of owning and maintaining classic cars. As for my viewers, I really appreciate your support and engagement. It motivates me to share more of my experiences and expertise with you. Keep an eye out for more updates on this Mustang and an exciting announcement involving my 1967 Buick gs340 project coming up soon. Thanks for watching and being a part of this journey with me!

I went through a couple of those McParts Pioneer clutch cables back in the '90s, and do not recommend them. The OEM Ford cable is best. I like to connect to the fork first, and then connect it under the dash - with the factory adjuster, you can release the quadrant and rotate it to catch the cable lug. But if you have big hands, underneath might be better. Simply pull up on the pedal and that's it - that's how it self adjusts. I've got a fixed metal quadrant and a firewall adjuster on mine.

Yeah, hadn't done one in a while. My hands don't fit well under the dash of these cars. Lol

It doesn't have one. But I have a pcv setup comin'. I never really finished the build so I just had breather caps on it. Which is a no-no with Fords. 👍
