I can see the front panel switches are held to the front plate by double sided stick tape. That is very convenient of Roland. I saw it in my 1080 when repairing MIDI message light. I thought it was done by other service. Great video!!! Thank you!

Nice video...I have 3 of these to do...2 x jv2080 and 1 x jd990...One thing puzzles me...You removed the front panel then the glass front screen protector...but when you put the front panel back on...you put the screen protector on last..looks ok but...hmmm

Good video thanks. Is this the blue or the "negative" b&w display? Are you still satisfied with the swap and new display? Thanks for answering.

No expansions? I've been wanting to do this for years now to my 2080 but I don't like deep diving into old hardware that I absolutely love in fear of breaking something. Stress moment was right at 6:15 heh though I will say, it appears to be a lot easier than I had imagined. Super scary after the initial install and not seeing anything at first.

No unfortunately when I bought the JV-2080 a few years ago the original owner had removed all of his expansions and was selling them separately. I didn't find the price right to buy the extensions with the unit. But looking at it now, I should have at least grabbed a couple! :-). Yeah turning the display on was a bit of an 'oh?' moment, but it all worked out great in the end! This is even mentioned on the eBay page. It's actually one of the most easy installs I have ever done. You don't even have to unplug or remove any boards. The guy who makes these is a friendly guy named Stephen, and was in contact with him yesterday to show him the video. He told me that you can contact him for further instructions on installing these, and is very helpful! I would recommend upgrading the display, if your JV dies, just take it out and put it back into another, it's not a wasted part. Plus it just looks super awesome.

@@trashgeneration Definitely recommend picking up some of the expansion cards! Too bad the Vintage Synth JV-04 card is still super crazy expensive, it's the one I've put off forever now since they're around $160. Same reason I've put off on getting the LCD as well due to price but really would love to have it. I'm always bent on "Do I upgrade the LCD and the Synth card or do I spend the $400 on another 2U rack synth to explore!"

I hear you. When I have to make decisions like that, I mostly base them on scarcity. Stephen had these JV-2080 displays custom made and has a supply, but since there is no direct replacement LCD for the JV-2080 on the market, and we don't know how much stock he has, I figured I buy one now rather than wait. Have you heard about the Brexit topic? It most likely will result in export taxes and customs duties for European buyers at the beginning of 2021. I guess that may not be an issue for you depending on where you live and what kind of importing rules the government has. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is: there are plenty of expanders out there, but the availability of the display is uncertain. The expander is more of a creative investment, and the display is more of a maintenance investment. Just te keep the engine running a little longer :-).

Hi there... Did you had the battery low problem? Memory user damaged... How can we change that battery? Thank you very much.. 😁

Not sure if help is still needed, but the internal battery can be accessed through the top panel, and it's located under the expansion card board on the left-hand side. There's a very straightforward and helpful guide on the Sector 101 Project Blog site by the name of "Roland JV-2080 Battery Replacement", that should be useful!

7:10 EVERY FUCKING TIME!🤬 I was looking into getting something to replace my dim akai S3000 screen. When I was poking around, i started wondering if the faceplate had to be attached to the unit at all. Like, could you turn the front controls into a desktop unit and leave the 80's/90's technology in the rack?🤔
