Replacing Trailer bearings and races.

Excellent job. For those who are doing this at home, there is another little trick you can use to seat the races. Put the races in the freezer for a couple of hours before doing the job. Heat the hub with a torch, heat gun or in the oven until it's about 180-200F. Pull a race out of the freezer and slide it into place in the hub. Most of the time, you won't even have to hit it. The race will heat up very quickly and be locked into place. Turn the wheel over and do the other race.

should the grease seal fit snuggly on the spindle when you re-install the hub? I'm re-packing my boat trailer bearings and when I went to get a new grease seal I was told it was the wrong size and it should fit snuggly over the spindle. The one that was installed doesn't do that. I was given a boat and trailer by a friend and I am making sure the bearing are packed for next spring. I've done bearing on my canoe trailer but never notice if the seal is supposed to be snug to the spindle. Also, when removing the hub I noticed there isn't a washer behind the nut. I never saw this before. Any help is appreciated.

Do you need to machine the brake drum a do you need to machine the part of the drum the magnet sits on?

My bearing driver is 2"x4" and made out of wood :)

I gouged the hub in a few spots where the races were trying to get the races off. They were stuck in there good. Does that make a difference or should I buy new hubs? The hubs are 23 years old with a lot of surface rust but still seem strong and they have no rust at all inside the hub. I wire brushed them and plan on wiping them with alcohol to remove grease then spray them with cold galvanizing spray tomorrow so they don't rust much more.

How do you know which way the bearing goes in? Can you put it on backwards?

You tapped the inner seal below flush, is that ok?

you do not want the inner bearing race to spin on the spindle therefore you do not put grease inside of the bearing other than that good video
