He didn’t mean anything by that. He was just so excited that she is in his city and he got nervous. His words just got fumbled up.

The issue isn’t is he nervous or is he sexist. The issue is that this is something men do with their nervousness; they take the discomfort of being nervous and turn it in to “hitting on” women and make us uncomfortable.

After his apology tweet, he said a column will follow, and wrote an article, that's monetized for clicks, to comment further to talk about the stages of grief he went through and centered the situation around himself. Additionally, in the same press conference, he told the head coach of the Fever, Christie Sides, "you've just been given the keys to that, what are you going to do with it?” to refer to Caitlin Clark. Caitlin is a human, not a car or object. Referring to Caitlin as "that" and "it" is bizarre. His comments were inappropriate and he's an experienced journalist and should know that's unprofessional.
