Repotting an Orchid Keiki - Phalaenopsis Orchid Keiki

This is a short video showing you how to repot an Orchid Keiki from a Phalaenopsis orchid. This Phalaenopsis orchid also has a couple of partial keiki's which are extremely interesting and bizarre. Keiki's are a great way to propagate orchids without needing to pollinate orchids and grow orchid seedlings.

Thank you! I have just followed your instructions to pot my keiki. It too is about 8 months old but has a complete stem of flowers growing. I've left them on - I hope I don't lose them!

@@binkb7926 Hi - thanks for getting back. The flowers stayed for a while and then died off and I cut the spike back. The keiki still looking healthy - slow growth but the roots are spreading a new leave sprouting out now. Slow process! :)

The joke about 3 hands was funny. The humor was not lost on me! Thank you for this video, I've been watching a little keiki on my own orchid for a while and I think it's ready to be repotted but I wanted to make sure I did it right.

Thanks so much for the info. My Keiki is a couple of years old and I left it on the mother plant as it puts out the most amazing blossom spike. Now two more have formed on the plant although I've never done anything to propagate from it. I'm going to try and separate the biggest one. I'm hoping it's going to survive!

I received an orchid from sister in law who had let the flowers drop and it didn't look good at all. I watered it correctly and put it into a south facing window. Suddenly it put on two new flower spikes and a keiki. The Keiki has three leaves and three roots on it. I plan to remove the keiki and plant it soon. The orchid is blooming at the time and just keeps on putting on more flowers at the end of the spikes. It has three spikes, two with flowers and one with the keiki. Interesting video and informative also. Thanks

Hi Real, Your video is great. I too have had this oddity growth on a Phal. I left the baby on the mother plant and it bloomed. I don't know if it was something I did, but soon after the mother plant started to shrivel. Eventually it died. I still have the baby planted but even after almost a year nothing has happened. The plant is very healthy looking so I am just leaving it to see what will happen. Thanks Patsy

Great video! For the 8 months that your keiki was on the mother plant, did you water it or mist it separately to the mother plant? I have two phalaenopsis orchids with apical keikis in "infant" stages and I'm not sure what to do when they start producing roots. Thanks.

Hello nice video. I was wondering if you treated the plant in a particular fashion to create the growth of the keikis: did you fertilize in any specific way or use Keiki paste? I have several plants on which i applied keiki paste and there is plenty of growth on most of them. However it is early to tell if these are secondary spikes or Keikis. Thank you.
