After my white 'Willd orchid' finished flowering it developed a keiki on the end of the flowering spike. After a few month it became big enough and with enough roots ( 3 or more) to be removed from the mother plant and potted in its own medium.
In this video I'll show you how to remove the keiki and pot it in its own medium.

I have watched so many people cutting off the flower spikes. I knew there was a reason not to. I put Keiki past on and have growth in several places on it. When I get keikies I will be coming back to this video.

There are people that love to cut off the flower spikes and claim it is the best thing to do. I don't like cutting them off totally in order to let them either develop keikis or new flower spikes. Let me know if you had success developing keikis.

@@botanicdesigns I have lots of patience and will keep my fingers crossed.

Many people criticize me for leaving my spikes when I post on social media. They claim keikis and secondary bloom or spike will drain the plant and leaves will be in a poor state, etc.

Thank you very much for such a detailed video! I have two giant keikis on my orchid. They are very big and have many roots and leaves. I want to separate them from the mother plant, but they are blooming with many many flowers. Shall I wait until they stop blooming or shall I try separating them now? Many thanks!

If they are blooming I would wait.

Thank you for a very helpful video. I've been unwell for 2 years, so my Keiki is quite big. Is this the right time of the year to remove it ? I'm in the UK. Thank you

I am happy the video is helpful. If you live in the UK I think you'd better wait till April.

I have a Keiki growing off of my flowering stem but there is no air roots developing yet so should I wait to clip the keiki until it grows air roots ?

You must wait till it has at least 3 roots. This can take a few months. Orchids is all about patience.

Is keiki always developed after flowering? I am novice, Thanks
@botanicdesigns
@botanicdesigns Год назад
Unfortunately not. Most orchid growers go on luck and pray that their orchid will develop a keiki. In the past, I have tried several ways in which people in youtube videos claimed they know the way you can push the flower spike to develop keikis, but I have never had any succes. A few weeks ago, I have seen a new video with a new way and I will certainly try this. I will film it and upload it on the channel. Of course it will take time.

During spring would be a wonderful time

There’s no chance of the roots rotting ?

No. Of course you shouldn't place too much water
