I know it's hard to show size and perception in the video, especially since it isn't finished, but Rex's new room is actually almost twice the size of her current one :) Instead of 8x8', she'll soon get to live in 8x14' of space with a pool tripled in volume! :D Plus she won't have a snapping turtle roommate taking up space ;) We can't wait!

I thought it did look kinda small but chalked it up to me not being an expert. I also had to remind myself that rex is indeed, an alligator who doesn't need headspace like we do. I'm *so* excited for the decorating video!

I think a cool thing for that blank wall would be a “how tall are you compared to different species” mural. My kids were obsessed with a similar mural at a zoo.

Word of advice: CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY label each and every electrical switch with professional printed labeling. Trust me. World of grief avoided for literally DECADES!

And every conduit should have a piece of string in it, in case you need to pull through more wire later.

And label it with the LOCATION, not the current animal going in that spot. It wll be sad if the zoo outlasts Rex, and the label on hte breaker has Rex's name. (Or just annoying if you move animals around and what is labelled as Ball Python becomes Bull Snakes.)

PLEASE DO THIS!! It is so important to do this. Create a blueprint and label each room and then label the fuse box. That way you have a reference for later on and if you remodel later on you have an idea where everything is and what is what

Our zoo has one with dinosaurs. It is really neat! My Granny made it a point to take my picture there every time we went from age two till adulthood. It's neat to see the change of time. It could be a tradition here too. Maybe a section on their webpage were people can show themselves taking pics there over the years.

It might be a bit late in the process to mention this. But I went to a pirate museum last year, and one of the interactive elements they had was a little worksheet with questions. The answers were hidden in secret compartments, doors, drawers, panels, etc, throughout the museum. It was super fun trying to find them. And you won a little cheap prize if you found all the answers. I don't know how much you're going to go out with the decor, but maybe some hidden things would be fun to find.

a museum near my house did this too! the quizzes changed every few months and everytime i went there it was really fun and i have alot of childhood memories of wandering round this cool museum with my sisters trying to find all the fun clues, and finding out more about history because of how often id read the signs and look in exhibits because of the quizzes :))

Ideas: interactive wall- have different sheds and have a multiple choice for answers and then a lift flap that gives the answer. Tall enclosure- what about a chameleon? Or an iguana (if its big enough, but it kinda looked a bit small for that but I'm not sure)

University of MN twin cities has an animal Science department

There’s Bemidji State University in northern Minnesota. That’s where I go and we have a pretty great wildlife biology program. I don’t see a herpetology class but that could change.

When you started talking about the map I thought you were going to say put marks where the animals are native to. Maybe color in the animals' home range on the map then make some kind of interactive game for matching species to color on the map. For ranges that overlap you can have stripes of the different colors. PS you can put a guest book and a map of visitors at the entrance maybe

With that wall at 12:15, I think it would be really cool if you put up a really big map and had laminated cut-outs of lots of different snake and reptile species that can be stuck onto the map, so that kids can test out how much they know about where different species can be found. And when school groups come in, you could set a challenge that there'll be a prize depending on how many they get right.

I have terrible knees so maybe I have to bring a skateboard with me so I can slide on my stomach through Rex's enclosure 😂 Also, I'm going to guess that the secret animal in the Minnesota enclosures is a timber rattlesnake! Since you guys seem to like them a lot, and it would certainly be a big deal for you guys to have a venomous species since you don't usually keep them.

@3:45 Emily blushing furiously. Is that enough floor space for Rex? It seems like the kids have more room in that encloser than Rex does :( Maybe another higher level, with a slide, and a hide? Total respect for you guys, I don't know nuffin about enclosers for croc's, even stunted ones. But Rex is one of my favorites and I want them living like royalty.

At first I thought the same but I think the entire top of the tunnel is her enclosure. So that entire giant squares her enclosure and you go underneath the floor where she can hang out
