Hey its Aiden here! I will be taking over Tuesdays here at Reach Out Reptiles to provide even more content for you guys! These videos will be featuring lots of amazing influencers in the reptile industry. I hope these Takeover Tuesday videos help open up your minds to other perspectives from amazing influencers in the reptile industry!
In this video Garrett Hartle sat down with Jason Bigler from Morph Mixology and Brian McCort from Sailor Serpents to talk about how the reptile hobby is changing. They explain how the species of reptiles people keep is shifting. We as a hobby went from keeping a large amount of individual reptile species, to the same species with lots of morphs. Today the coolest reptile keepers ahem are going back to keeping a collection of multiple species just like people did in the old days!

The terms "Dwarf Reticulated Python" and "Super Dwarf Reticulated Python" are used to describe Reticulated pythons of the subspecies Satuprai and Jampeanus, along with half-blood crosses of these subspecies into mainland reticulated pythons to refine the amazing array of genetic morphs within that species, and reduce their size to something generally more suited to a life with humans. Unfortunately, these terms are often used to mislead uneducated buyers into purchasing snakes with insufficient Dwarf and SD influence (lower than 50% Dwarf/SD Blood), or by completely misrepresenting larger growing Retics altogether!
Pure locality Dwarf and Super Dwarf Retics from the Selayer, Jampea, Kayuadi, Tombolongan, Kalatoa, Madu, and Karompa islands of Indonesia form a group represented by two unique subspecies of Reticulated python that have actually adapted to live in harsh environments with their diminutive size- packing all the intelligence, confidence, and incredibly beautiful color and pattern of the world's longest snake into a tiny little package, some being even as small as corn snakes! Unfortunately, they are still quite rare in captivity, and difficult to find except through dedicated breeders.
At Reach Out Reptiles we dedicate ourselves completely to Dwarf and Super Dwarf Reticulated pythons like no one else in the world! We want everyone to be able to learn about this little known and under-appreciated, misunderstood, and highly misrepresented group of animals in a simple, straightforward way. Stay awhile, and connect with us, and with the WILD in you that really makes you HUMAN!

I think the internet has been the best and worst thing to happen to the hobby. There are a lot of great people out there that love to help the newer keeper succeed and truly want their animals to thrive, but there are a lot more armchair experts that just love to poke fun and hurt feelings when they can barely keep their own animals alive. I started keeping in the early 70's when if you had any kind of pet reptile you were truly on your own. No contact with other weirdos unless you traveled (in my case to Florida or Louisiana) to a roadside attraction. Now reptiles are just as if not more common than dog's and cat's. In fact I haven't seen a cat show in 20+ year's, but can got to a repticon event weekly if willing to travel. I really respect those of you Garrett that will take the time and sit down with the new keepers to make sure they understand what type of a commitment they're getting into and to make sure they are able to care for their animals properly. Thank you for all that you do. I hope more are encouraged to fallow your example

I have been working with ball pythons, kingsnakes, & leopard geckos. As far as breeding. I have other reptiles as well I'm getting into learning more before just jumping into breeding. I select only certain morphs I want to see personally and feel others would be interested in. I'm a mother of 7 so It's a side hobby of mine and it's a way to get the kids interested in reptiles

My son and I hatched our first ever clutch 2 weeks ago. Simple normal and pastel ball pythons. We are hooked. We want to see more noses poking out!

When exploring and researching on snake keeping.. I stumbled across Carpet Pythons. Fell in love instantly. Tried to find people who kept adults (because I worried about their size) and wanted to experience that. In a whole forum only 2 people kept Carpets and allowed me to visit them. Then at an expo a whole 2 stands, sold them. 200+ stands.. only 2 of which held Carpets. I can understand the disappointment at seeing such a lack of diversity, especially when your heart fell for a species that arent commonly kept/bred.

Great chat! Im one of the odd balls that fell in love with tokays and have started multiple projects with them even with imports coming in for $15. Ive found as you were saying ethics are becoming a very importamt factor with the new wave of hobbyist and people will pay that extra 100-120 to get a captive breed baby instead of an import.

Haven’t had a snake in 15 years, and it’s crazy to see how much things have changed. It’s really cool. Especially seeing folks like ya’ll doing it much more responsibly.

LOL the scrubbies are shocking for peeing and pooing all over the place still. Would be great to see some more diversity out there though, there are so much of the same these days, or l am just not watching enough diverse videos. Another great topic guys.

I was definitely one of those old school keepers with wild caught monitors and pretty much anything I could get my hands on. We would buy animals from glades herps and all you had was a price list and no pictures. Times have definitely changed and for the better in most cases

Hi guys love the video. I find that reptiles don't have to be perfect sometimes the one's that are imperfect can have the best personalitys, I my eyes they all deserve the best care and live you can give them. Keep up the good work and keep doing this kind of video now and then. God Bless

Been into the reptile game exactly those 20 ys you mentioned. Really would like to and staring to see more people doing what they love rather what makes big bucks, especially if the animals suffer due it! Therefore cheers for another topic that makes us rethink our awesome hobby...

Really enjoyed this, I myself only have one retic but used to keep everything. I try to focus my time now and treat as a family member. To be honest I get a lot back from this. But I do plan to expand over time again. Focusing on dwarfs but I may buy a scrub again and would love some frilled dragons.

I've bought a few nice retics to start breeding myself, however I haven't started breeding them yet as there is sp much to it.. though trolls and rude people very much enjoy Poking fun and just down talking what they don't know anything about or makes them jealous. I love your channel and your snakes!!!

Sadly I remember keeping full grown Nile monitors in my brothers apartment, it was such a stupid insane thing to buy back then lol maybe 1991 I’d say , all sorts of stuff died back then how misinterpreted the hobby was but great thing for people to do it back then I guess in a way , but ya being like 10 years old being chased out of our basement by two 5’ jaw snapping monitors was not a great time lmao 😂, they actually made it for 9 months before we found someone to buy them, and now you are literally talking about Nile monitors lmao, it’s important to find what you love and are serious about but not only that find what your good at Actually working on a pair of Rings now , one of these things I fell in love with as soon as I read about them

If anyone reading this live in Florida be aware of the ban on green iguanas, tegus, large snakes and RES turtles we are fighting. See USARKFL.com I have rescued green iguanas for 20 years and don't want to lose my animals.

Am I the only one that can't stand the Morph Mixology guy? I use to follow him, and he always reminded me of the 16yr old kid who has been in the gym for a couple years and thinks he knows everything.
