Republic Services - Autocar WXLL - McNeilus Front Loader (Semi-Auto)

Last October I took a drive over to Seal Beach to film what Consolidated uses to collect on the alley routes. At first I assumed that they used a smaller McNeilus rear loader that I had seen pictures of online. It turns out, this truck is actually sent into those narrow alleys throughout the southern part of the city. Since I hadn't gotten a new camera still, I used the same spare camera I filmed a portion of my last two MCSD roaring diesel videos. This is a McNeilus front loader on an Autocar WXLL chassis, one of a few that are still left in the Consolidated colors. At first I couldn't read the driver's name tag and thought it said "Goodman" or something. Later I was told his name is Tarell. The crew does a load of trash first and then comes back to pick up the recycling. Tarell said that he probably would take a rear loader into these alleys, but he's only certified to drive commercial trucks. He's also a relief driver who was filling in for the regular crew on this route.

I've been looking forward to this video. Didn't disappoint that's for sure. I always liked CDS's carry cans with the front tippers. Even cooler with Rotos on route. Glad to see both drivers were cool. Always makes filming more fun, especially semi-auto when you have to interact with the driver more so than automated. Nice logos on the carry can. These trucks look awesome. Love the WXLL. Interesting to see the driver using the LH side. Good work Tristen

***** Thanks Aaron. It is nice to see some of the old Consolidated equipment in use especially now since a lot has been replaced with Republic stuff. I managed to film this truck again last month, but with a different crew. I think he used the left hand side so the swamper would have a place to ride when going from alley to alley.

Very nice. An advantage of the semi-auto carry can hadn't thought of before became evident at 2:50, much easer to handle carts without catch bars than with an RL.

georgewuzheer Thanks. It's hard to see but the cart tipped on the can's left side (right from camera's POV) actually did have a tipper bar. Just coincidentally fell off the tipper.

Awesome work man! Really love these WXLL McNeilus Consolidated Disposal has! Awesome to see mostly Rotos as well! 60's to! Made for an awesome video seeing them all tipped. Always prefer the front tippers apposed to the side tippers on the carry can. Would have been cool to see an older carry can, like the one I filmed with the fast tippers. Seems like Consolidated was kinda of stupid, and sent out fully automated carts in a pure semi-auto route... Was cool to see it tipped none the less. Really enjoy those 4th gens being tipped. Not to often you get to see those. Tarell seems like a super chill driver. Awesome footage man, one of my favorite videos from you! Can't wait for part two!

***** Thanks David. Part 2 will be up likely this summer. That 3rd Gen Roto was the only fully automated cart in the area - likely all the container deliverer had available in his truck.

Awesome video! Really enjoy these WXLL FLs that CDS has! I like the CDS stickers on the carry can. Like the Rottos as well. Did you film them on recycling too? Awesome job on the video and I like how you put your user name over the blank signboard on the picture a the beginning.

thelyokofannumber1 Thanks. I only filmed them picking up the trash and left afterward. The camera was low on battery anyway towards the end of part 2.

Nice! I assumed too that they would send a rl down these alleys nevertheless the fl was pretty sweet especially since its still rocking the Consolidated colors still. I think the alleys by Ocean are still manual, so that's probably where the rl goes then.

paco45677 Thanks. They are still manual but a rear loader don't go down that long alley, either. Some of the buildings have commercial bins.

+paco45677 All the RL's are bulk trucks from CDS Long Beach Hauling. CDS also recently got some of the new Republic trucks with those new wraps, but they pull off the wrap on one, slapped a CDS Firestone GDD Sign board
