I was just telling a CE I'm now working with the same thing about the impact. Every job provides us with them and they're the tits to use. But I liked using my nut driver to tighten the straps, couplings, and connectors. The CE sticks with the impact.
Hello Donald! Love your videos, they provide great advice and I am definitely taking advantage of them. I wanted your opinion on my situation if I'm lucky enough. By watching some of your other videos I kinda know what I will do but still it'll be awesome if I can hear it from you. I started working in construction when I was 19, before that I worked as a waiter. Moving to a couple companies I learned some finish carpentry, framing, roofing and painting. But I never truly Excelled at them since I didn't work on them long enough. Ive been working for this small electric 💡 company for the past month. Now I'm 23 years old. I truly want to learn the trade but I'm not sure If I should move to a different company in the next 5 months, because they mostly do finished houses and I don't get to see how they wire a complete house from 0. I was thinking learning the most I can in 6 months, so I can learn basics then move to a company that does rough and finish work. I live in Ossining, New York. Thanks in advance.👍👍⚡
Go to school first before you do new construction. Knowing theory and going into new construction is amazing for your career, it will benefit you on so many levels.
@@DonaldMillerElectric . Thank you! I will start a program called boces in my area, which has two level courses. From what I've heard they almost always help you find a job after finishing the course. So then I will look for new construction electricy.
@@fernandoeras6273 Cut your teeth with new construction, learn as much as possible and find your path to bigger and better things. New construction is great but it beats you up and the pay is lacking. Great for the experience, but keep your eyes open.
If your using the impact for what the impact is made for then great. Realize, you are awarded for correct conduct in this trade. I rose through every position in this trade all the way to ownership. It takes correct dedication and knowing when to shut up and listen.
Thanks Don ! Which electrical tape is the best ? Also concerning phone last time while working by myself in attic on knobs and tubes it must have been close to 90 degrees I asked myself if I have health issues I won’t be able to alert anyone I went back down to get my phone .
Go back and get a couple bottles of water and your fine. Dont make excuses for poor habits. If you feel you need your phone for health issues I understand. Only you know if your phone is a problem that you need to make excuses for.
Didn't think I'd hear a good excuse for carrying a phone, but that really is one. No one should go into a tight super hot attic without someone else around to notify, in case there's a problem. Just don't crack your screen crawling on the rafters... They are also handy for sticking into tight spaces to take a pic or video, so you can see what you're working with. I think it's a specific personality type which has problems putting down the phone. They are usually people who need attention, and now the phone is there to help them command attention, in situations where that channel used to never be available. If I was the law, I'd brick people's phones for 48 hours, for being caught using the phone while driving.
How long have you been using that hardened leather saddlebag? I'm looking for more leather bag recommendations. Can't wait for the budgeting video btw.
I just recently discovered your channel and am really enjoying it so far! I was wondering what books/resources you would recommend getting and studying if I want to progress further in the electrical trade?
Cell phones have ruined a lot of things, and they suck when compared to a copper landline and a proper PC. The only thing they're truly good at is texting. RE budgeting for inconsistent income, Dave Ramsey calls it a "Hill and Valley" fund, where you save money during hill times, so you can have it during valley times.
Also, I disagree about the phone. If there's an emergency I need to be reachable. it's just all about discipline. obviously don't just be on your phone somewhere in the corner not doing anything
Apprentices make excuses for their bad habits. Peoples addiction to their phone hinders their progression in this trade. Phones come up in internal revues all the time, it often prevents one from excelling to the next level. All it takes is one mechanic to notify the office his apprentice is on the phone, a note will go in his file.
Why do you call it a "mechanic" instead of electrician? I've never heard that before. I do live in California so maybe it's different out here. Great video by the way.
