I think you should do this again with your DNFs What would you reread as it is, what would you change to make you able to finish and what would you erase from existence AND YOU CAN'T RE-DNF
I'm just leaving a comment in a desperate attempt to make the algorithm favour your comment and push it up, so that many people read and like it, cause it's a great idea.
unpopular opinion: the Old Forest section is a really great part of LOTR and is an ingeniously constructed thematic bridge between the main epic story and the folklorish-ness of the Hobbit
Rage of Dragons is fireproof so it’s safe, WoT, Mistborn and Harry Potter are protected by magic, Outsiders is just going to have to run away and hide and you can’t actually kill Pet Sematary haha
The look on Cory's face in your Squarespace ad while holding the t-shirt is hilarious! YOU made it for him AND put a heart on it! He has to love it, right? But it's such a haphazard mess! I think you've confused his left brain, ha!
Oh no, Daniel is going to come after you for choosing to burn wheel of time, it was nice knowing you Merphy. Lol kidding, he wouldn't do that.... would he? Anyways this was such a fun video, thank you for putting yourself through so much pain for our entertainment, I could never choose
It’s so crazy to think Dark Vanessa came out this year too, feels like forrevverrr ago. 2020 has been a weird year. Stay safe everyone =) happy reading
Merphy: "I'm gonna hate every minute of this video." Me: Ooooh, better get my popcorn right now...XD On an honest note though, these choices were just straight up painful. I can't even imagine choosing between those books. 😅😕
Locke running was my reaction instead of burning lovely books. The choices were impossible. (Ok, the one with The lies of Locke Lamora was easy, of course).
This was hilarious to watch. Though I can't say I was surprised at many of your choices (apart from choosing to play this particular game at all, of course 🤣).
now i'm like: do it again but with ONLY least favorite books Edit: I'm gonna burn this video - Merphy 2020 best quote of the year hands down lighters up.
I just really loved that you went all out for this (maybe for us?). You put all books that you loved. This was great. Such a good break from the work day!
Of the once here I've read: Reread: Pride & Predjudice, LOTR Rewrite: Harry Potter Burn: Rage of Dragons (not as painful for me beacause I didn't like it) If I wanna make it harder for myself and pick three of my favorites: Reread: The Old Man the Sea Rewrite: Alice Adventures in Wonderland (but how???) Burn: Nineteen Eighty-Four (Ok, I get it now. this hurts)
I feel bad for enjoying this video. You can clearly tell she's really suffering, but at the same time she's very entertaining to watch. I'm so sorry Merphy!! Lol
Man... every time I need to laugh I'll just come back to this video, thanks Murph, watching you suffer over books like that... top quality entertainment (forgive me I'm a bit of a sadist if you haven't noticed).
Based on your recommendation I recently picked up "And every morning the way home gets longer and longer" and that book broke my heart, made me sob and I loved every second of it. One of my favorites of the year and maybe of all time! So thank you :)
"I hate everything", hahah! Before I watched the video I thought, "She is going to burn 'Cursed Child'", but then I saw that it is a bunch of wonderful books that you have to choose from. This is my nightmare, hahah. PS. Love the tie-dye shirt. Where can I buy the merch? 😉
I had no idea this tag was a thing. I 👏love 👏this👏 - also, thank you so much for introducing me to My Dark Vanessa. Buying this right now!! It’s such an interesting spin on an old standard. Bit creepy how student-teacher romance is frequently written as romantic.
Merphy, I applaud your strong and understand your pain. I could not imagine doing this to my favorite stories either. Also the Bruce Banner meme was perfect, Hahaha.
Tbh I don’t want to touch Pride and Prejudice, BUT... [VAGUE SPOILERS AHEAD] Lydia’s ending has always bothered me and while I know it was realistic for the time and she had no good option and it was necessary for the plot to progress, I still wish I could rewrite it.
If you look into retellings they rewrite it (I would say) quite often! Look at Lost in Austen, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Lizzie Bennet Diaries...
I recommend the movie with the Zombies, it has my favourite Collins of all adaptations! But don't take it seriously, it is just a fun movie (the book I don't recommend that much). Lost in Austen is a TV series, which made me really angry, but if you're interested, check it out!
I'd keep that bit but rewrite this story differently. Mary marries Mr Collins -- Mrs Bennett is just astute enough to recognise it, or maybe Mr Collins asks Mr Bennett for a suggestion instead of her. They can still be desperately poor, maybe Lady Catherine doesn't give them as much patronage for whatever reason. Thus still keeping pressure on the older two to "marry up". With the whole Lydia/Wickham thing, Mrs Bennett says "Mr Bennett shall be killed and we shall be thrown out". The Mr Collins rewrite is still keeping it in the family, but it can change to "the house will need mortgaging to pay Wickham's debts, but then Wickham will kill him and the bank will throw us out", maybe. It's a much better ending for those two characters, Mary and Mr Collins.
I've done that tie dye move with the family and it was great fun and we love how the shirts turned out. Also, this video was rough, for sure. Nobody wins.
OH MY GOSH, EMMA AND THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS. I'VE HARDLY MET ANYONE WHO HAS READ THEM, MUCH LESS LIKED THEM. I've been looking for youtubers who like those books. 😭YOU ARE AMAZING. AND I'M SUBSCRIBED 😂
The way you decided to burn Harry Potter was COLD. I could never burn Harry Potter because it's the series that made me love reading, basically defined my entire childhood and is still a great source of comfort today. By the way, going by the level of pain you experienced in this, I definitely need to check out a bunch of these books :D
If you do it again, you should call it "Remove" instead of "Burn". A) it's re-, re-, re-. B) It means getting it out of your collection, rather than causing harm to the book, which should make you feel a little less distraught.
Great video! I didn't connect the dots that your fave book Rebecca was the same Rebecca that just came out on Netflix today until now. That cover is so beautiful, I'm going to try to read it now
Rewriting the Count of Monte Christo is incredibly easy as a decision because most editions of the book are already condensed from the original publication. So arguably that’s what makes it such a great book.
