Here’s what I did when my bandsaw broke and I needed to resaw a thick piece of wood into thinner boards.

Love the north, you can always put more layers on during the winter, but in the summer it becomes illegal at some point on the things you can take off.

I would 100% use a Japanese pull saw on this. They're "floppy" but because you have a 3" of cleared material on each side, it would go to the path of least resistance which is the thinner stock left in the middle. Its still a lot of work but gives you more control than a recip saw and far less work than a western saw bc they're thicker. That being said, I love Japanese tools and I am fairly biased :)

I've been doing the same thing to book-match for years. I've got two helpers for the process. On the end grain I take a circular saw and connect the cuts as a guide for the saws all blade and I use one of the saws all blades with the carbide teeth.

Enjoyable, no fluff, I needed this video. Thank you from NC

Clamping a clamp! As a beginner with few tools I couldn't figure out how to hold a board down to "rip" cut it all the way across, so that tip really helped me out, even though I'm sure it's obvious to most, heh.

I click on your video because you did that smile like Chevy Chase. Christmas vacation is one of my favorite movies. And I need to learn resawing.

Nice video. I have that exact same wiggly pull-saw -- it's branded as a Shark Saw, made in Japan. I got mine years ago at a Sears Hardware store. The ripping side works great for re-sawing except my technique isn't great and I usually get off the cut line. I spent a few dollars that didn't break the bank for a better Japanese pull saw - stiffer blade, teeth only on 1 side. Nice results.

Yeah, I bought a much bigger and better Ryoba pull saw that I plan to use from now on. But the Shark is still a great little saw.

That is exactly how I do it. A run through the thickness planer and the board looks like new money.

I thought to myself "Oh NO!" When I saw the Sawzall! Lol! BUT, I also thought you were keeping both sides for book matching. Like you said, "Ya do what you have to..." I agree.

Ever the rub with expensive material cost. You don't want to throw out those skinny pieces because you paid an arm and leg for that wood, but to use it, you need to invent MORE projects to use it on. Haha...

No joke!

Exactly. That would be some crazy expensive firewood. I even use 1/8 inch strips for glue ups all the time for little hints of color here and there. I love the way cherry pops next to black walnut. Or I'll use it just to separate 2 darker colors

Don’t burn that skinny piece send it to me! I can’t throw out wood.. I have a problem
@carlcox7332
@carlcox7332 2 года назад
I save them for glue ups to contrast with stuff like purple heart and walnut. Sometimes I'll do a 1 inch strip of cherry, a 1 inch of walnut and then a 1/8 inch cherry as a border to really set off the detail

I would have used that Japanese pull saw and never looked back. Save the Sawsall for demolition work. Why wouldn’t you just run those two boards through your planer or run a no.7 across them? You can’t burn $10/board foot cherry. That’s some end-stage Scarface $hit right there. Use some $100 bills for tinder. [lights acetylene torch] “Say hello to my lidl fren!”

Supposedly the anti-kickback shoulders on some blades can interfere with the blade brake mechanism on a SawStop tablesaw.

Sorry, but that piece is waaaay to tall for you to be using it against that short fence. Looks VERY risky and dangerous.
