That cop's a hero he didn't want to give up, he was determined to bring the dog back for the family

Wow that was an amazing story that the cops even cared that much to help the dog... and not just say "Oh well, it's just a dog" I'm in awe of this officers dedication and love. I've done CPR on a dog and brought him back, but he was mine! I know what a wonderful feeling it is when the dog suddenly moves and looks back at you. Glad the officer kept in touch and the dog remembers.

Today marks 34 years since this happened. When I heard Willy choking, I was frightened. This happened on a Thursday, on my uncle Sal’s 37th birthday, and 11 days before Christmas. Thank goodness they saw the police station and it was right there because they were never going to make it to the vet on time. If anyone can help them, they can. If Mike was not there, Willy wouldn’t have made it. He would’ve died.

Best episode I've seen. I love this show. It shows compassion, love and care of people about other people. In 2017 you just don't see much of that anymore.

This poor dog... I almost cried at this one. Now some cities have animal EMTs and ambulances, which is a good thing. Animals deserve just as much help as people.

omg the same thing happened to my dalmatian.,he opened his mouth wide i drove my fingers in no go,tried again no go.by this time he had allot of foam around his mouth i lubed my fingers up pushed as hard as i could and got it .phew in my mind next step was the heimlich maneuver ....i will NEVER forget the look he gave me to help him,and the look of thank you when i got it, dogs are smart!!!

This made me cry I am so glad that the dog is ok. I love my two cats so much, and I would be devastated if anything happened to them. My older cat just turned 16 and has been by my side since I was 4. I love snuggling and playing with them both.

I must say I remember seeing this episode on tv. It's truly one of the best/most heroic episodes (minus Niagara as just beyond belief) as how many ppl know canine CPR even now. And i must agree with razgrizaceblaze259 that is a cop you can truly respect as he went WELL above and beyond the call of duty. But also give credit to his fellow troopers on the scene as I feel they kept him going when he ALMOST gave up hope. P.S. if you have a pet try to find a CPR cetification class for it.

That cop was so sweet! He could have given up on the dog or just said ya know we only do this stuff on people, but he was very sweet and kept going no matter wether it was human or not

To the haters of this video who presumably thought "WTH it's only a dog", with all that officers training that may have been the first genuine case he had to deal with. It was more experience for him, a successful resus, giving police dogs a better chance of surviving trauma down the line. Great job.

It's important to know what size ball to get for the size of your dog for exactly this reason. Also, it's ironic that the dog at the end of the video was wearing a choke chain.

Now that is a cop. I respect that man tremendously, and I would probably trust him with my life. Way to go, man!

This same thing happened to my german shepherd Dodger. She did not always chew her food completely. One afternoon she started choking and in this case could not get any air in. I got her between my legs and thrusted upward with a double fist. Immediately she choked and the food came back into her mouth. Then she yelped and bit me. Who wouldn't? I just punched her in the stomach!!

Aw. Glad he made it! I always wanted to make a pet ambulance. I've had several times where I had to do emergency techniques on my pets that the average person would not know how to do. I also recently had to do CPR on my bearded dragon. Thankfully they all lived. Like kids, pets get into the darnedest things.

It's been 28 years since this happened. I'm sure Kevin tells this story to his children. I have a rat terrier dog named Peanut, who's 7 and my brother has a 2-year-old chocolate lab named Henry. I don't want anything like this to happen to any of them.

If your dog ever chokes, put your thumbs just behind his jawbone (on the outside), and thrust inward. Often whatever is blocking the airway will pop right out.

I had to save my aunt dachshund. He choked on a slippery raw hide bone. I took over 10 minutes to get it out myself..... when I need he passed out. 🤦‍♀️ got him to a get and hes was ok. Fhew!

I know you posted this a long time ago, don't know if you ever got an answer. But CPR for a dog is not much different than for people except that you need to clamp the muzzle shut and blow into the nostrils instead of the mouth, as you would on a person. You could possibly ask your veterinarian to give you a demonstration.

WHERE CAN I LEARN THIS?!? I want to know how to save my dog if the unthinkable ever happened. She's my baby- I don't know what I'd do without her!! It's like my worst nightmare. If you know where I might be able to learn this, please message me or something.

I can never say this enough--- if you've got a pet, PLEASE learn pet first aid, you have no idea how grateful you'll feel if God(or whatever you believe in) - forbid, your pet begins choking or you find yourself with another pet emergency. As someone who's had to use the Heimlich on a dog, trust me when I say it's entirely worth learning! Well done for the canine officer and the rest of the team and the family.

First time seeing CPR on a dog. If have been trained in adult CPR and infant so this is my first time seeing that it can be done on a dog. Good to know in case my dog ever needs CPR done on him.

Poor dog, I’m glad Willie was okay after being saved by the cop! I couldn’t imagine what that was like, but I do know how it feels when a pet is suffering in some way! If my dog choked, I’d be worried too!

Dalmations have a long history with the fire department

It's so hard watching a dog or any animal in a bad situation or struggling because they can't talk and when they're unable to use their paws like we humans can use our hands then they can't help themselves. If we're choking sometimes we can easily get the item up but dogs with paws, can't get the item out of their mouth. It tries so hard and it can't and I feel sooo bad for it.
