As a wisconsinite I find this hilarious. If the guy walk that much on the lake it's safe. The only time he might have a problem is near the shore line or under a bridge
@@nickswinehart3343 I don’t go nowhere near open water.. But I’m saying from the looks of it it does look like a open field.. If I wasn’t from Chicago, I would think it’s just a open field.
Soon you won't be able to take a walk in the forest by yourself since that will be seen as "weird and dangerous", society gets more and more controlling.
That ice looks pretty thick to me. It is piled up like it was blown in. It the ice was blown offshore then it could be a problem for him. I see trucks driving on ice all the time so I think this is overkill rescuing this guy.
I don't think the ice is thick enough for vehicle on that part of Lake michigan but it's defitently safe enough for one person without any extra gear on. This is just Chicago rescue panicking because it's something they don't see
In all fairness, the lake changes by the hour. He was pretty far out and I can understand why people are concerned. Small lakes freeze for the winter and don't change constantly as the Great Lakes do. I know I wear a mask when I go to the lake now because it's warmer. It's possible he was just wearing it as winter gear.
In 57 degree water hypothermia occurs in 15 minutes ( coast guard posted signs at Madeline Island Lake Superior) and the water here at this season is much colder so it's possible that he could suffer a cardiac arrest upon immersion.
Note to self, don’t have an edible and walk on frozen Lake Michigan LMAO We have been on the ice up north for the past few weeks lol even snow mobiling on the fox river that has currents/flow. I think this guy was okay haha 😂 a little dramatized with the blow up raft and scuba gear.
Can someone explain whats wrong with this...im moving to michigan, and ill be ice fishing...i see video of people with snow mobile on thes lake while they are ice fishing..so why is this bad?
Nothing pure about the Chicago side of the lake. Those seagulls take so many dumps along the shore they shut down the beaches due to high e-coli levels.
This is a crazy story! For the past two years no matter the weather this is where I take a walk and joke around with the intrepid swimmers. Just Wednesday Groundhog Day after a snowstorm I saw a flock of mergansers floating on the undulating lake. I guess they were fishing for Snowfish. So the lake was still not solid ice. This report should win an award!
Technically you only need 2 inches to walk on without gear (like ice fishing gear) but it's really sketchy when it's that thin with the amount of snow on that water I'd definitely want some thicker ice than 2 inches.
lol go under your bridge you troll do you know how cold the lake is? do you know how thin the ice can be at times? he walked 100s of yards in on potentially thin ice the lady said there was water 2 days ago...so anything could happen
@@CodeGr88n You can saftly walk on 2 inches of ice and even if there was open water 2 days ago if there is a sudden big drop in temperature those 2 inches can form in a day
@@CodeGr88n you are obviously the troll. I live in Chicago and have been going out on that lake since I was a kid 40 years ago. You have no clue what you are talking about.
I can walk on 2 inches of ice without it even cracking slightly and I weigh 184 pounds. If someone manages to walk that far on the ice and they haven't fallen though then it's defitently safe enough to walk on. He would have made to shore just fine and now he has to pay for the recue all because you city slickers don't get out and ice fish and because of that don't know shit about frozen lakes
I'm confused is it illegal to walk on Ice in Illinois. Hear in Wisconsin we don't get the cops called if we're on 1 inch of ice while ice fishing. It's called enter your own risk. I guess a republican state is more free then a democratic socialist state.
Karens exist even in Wisconsin. So someone would call the cops on him there too. The ticket was to make the Karens shut up. Or else cpd cfd would have shrugged it off
@@tooriginal9724 He wasn't risking it. If he made it that far the ice is safe enough. It only needs to 3 inhes and it wasn't like he was walking under a bridge or the shoreline or near a island or near open spots of water
OMG I remember back in high school me and my friends jumped out on floating sheets of ice down by the harbor by the Aquarium…..these were floating sheets of ice……the cops ran us off…..this nanny state bullshit has got to stop. Not sure why he is wearing a mask LOL
you can’t call someone an idiot for having more balls than you do and wanting to walk on the lake lmao. I’ve wanted to do it for years and I can’t get myself to do it so props to him for being adventurous
