I was given this chain saw as a 'no longer needed' item.
It apparently had been sitting somewhere in a workshop for a long time collecting dust and sawdust.
It still had a decent compression; paint job was in decent shape for such an old saw.
It apparently had been rebuilt at some point as I found remnants of old silicone gasket maker.
Some gaskets were missing altogether - like a muffler gasket, lots of carbon deposits between cylinder and muffler.
I found reliable info about manufacturing date at the RU-vid channel Mr Obsoletes Vintage Homesteading.
He demonstrated some McCulloch ad and brochure from 1976 and 1979.

According to it, Mac Pro 610 had been introduced in 1979.
In fact, I have and advertisement from 1978 where 610 is being listed as "New".
The serial number on my saw starts with the prefix 11 and by the end of manufacturing in 1995 the prefix reached 13.
And the serial number itself is in 15330 numbers which is really small.
That places this particular saw somewhere in 1979 to 1980.
As soon as I laid my hands on it, I knew it is going to be a working tool, not a display item, it is simply not meant to be.
So here comes a rescue/repair and not a restoration.
As a machine from 1980, made for farmers/ranchers its maintenance/repairs supposed to be handled in any barn or garage or even tailgate.
No fancy power tools, just basic ratchet/spanner set, couple of screwdrivers and pliers.
That in fact has defined my approach to that project - do it the same way as it would be done 40+ years ago.
I gave it new set of gaskets, oil cap, spark plug, some other new parts. They are still fairly easy to find, even some 'new old stock'.
I consider that project as a success - now I have a reliable firewood saw and another iconic piece of history has been rescued and saved.
Yes, it is old and heavy but unlike modern plasticky stuff (even it is easier to handle) it feels solid and made to last for many years.

Явно долго валялась где-то в гараже судя по толстому слою опилок и грязи пропитанных маслом.
Я проверил, компрессия отличная, покраска для такой старой пилы достаточно хороша.
Ее уже перебирали, возможно и не раз, судя по силикону вместо некоторых прокладок.
Некоторых прокладок не было вообще, как например на глушителе - толстенный слой нагара между цилиндром и глушителем.
На одном из каналов наткнулся на информацию, которая помогла установить примерную дату изготовления.

Он показал пару буклетов 1976 и 1979 года где впервые была представлена эта пила.
Префикс серийного номера был 11, а к концу производства в 1995 году префикс стал 13.
Сам номер тоже невелик, 15330 что в общем, совсем мало, я думаю их выпускали десятками тысяч в год
Можно предположить, что машина была выпущена где-то в 1979-1980 году.
Как только я взял ее в руки, я понял, что это будет рабочий инструмент, а не выставочная штучка, она просто не для того была сделана.
Поэтому сам проект вмест реставрации превратился в ремонт.
Поскольку пила была предназначена для фермеров и мелких хозяйств, ремонт и обслуживание должны быть возможны в условиях гаража или сарая.
Только обычные головки, ключи и отвертки. Я тоже решил это делать именно так.
Заменил некоторые сломанные и неоригинальные детали, их по-прежнему несложно найти, некоторые абсолютно новые, и к тому же дешево.
В общем проект получился удачный, теперь у меня есть надежная пила что-то спилить вокруг или заготовить дров.
