This week, the team at Michele’s Rescue says they had to jump into action to prevent one of their recently adopted cats from being euthanized. Read more: www.fox17online.com/news/loca...
She gets a cat and is upset about cat jumping on table. What??!! It's a cat. It jumps anywhere it can get to, runs around and scratches different things. That's what cats do. In addition to being cute and sweet. They don't know(or care about) your stupid rules! Idiot adopter. Gets me fuming which is rare for me. Hope she is never allowed to get an animal again
I deal with it by putting spiky mats on my counters. They’re harmless but uncomfortable. My kitty learned not to jump on them. He has plenty of other places to climb and jump and now learned to sit on a bar stool and watch me cook.
Exactly-along with occasional vomit, hairballs, potty accidents, general destruction of furniture, and fur on everything! That’s life with cats! I have FOUR and there is no way I’d do that to my cats! If you can’t deal with pet issues, NEWS FLASH, don’t adopt any! What the actual hell?
@@catherinelw9365 I taught my cat that when he was a kitten. It was cool and kept him out of the way while I cook and he gets a nice view of what I'm doing to. He looked so proper sitting on his stool being polite.
Mine have never gotten on counters or tables, and I'm a creepy old cat lady who has had many cats. You just have to let them know the rules. It takes a bit of patience is all.
Wtf. The rescue was willing to take back the cat why would any sane person decide to euthanize?! I hope that horrible excuse for a human being is put on a NO ADOPTION LIST. SHAME!
I know a woman who keeps adopting dogs. Idk what she does with them. But she doesnt keep them. I wish I could put her on a list for rescues to beware. But it doesn’t exist
One would hope. The Bondi vet euthanised a perfectly healthy cat just because it was not as tame as he thought it should be. I never watched that show again. A few pets were saved from a hoarding situation. The cat could have been helped…obviously too much bother
My vet refused to euthanize a cat that had been brought in because it’s owner had died and the family didn’t want to deal with it. The vet had the family sign the cat over to him. He kept it till he could find a home for it. He found it a home within a couple of weeks.
My gf in high school worked part time in a vet’s office. The vet also bread Dalmatians. Tiffany said she quit on the spot when the vet asked her to assist in euthanizing a litter of puppies. Dear god why?, I asked. Tiffany said, “I dunno, maybe she didn’t like where the spots were.” So… it does happen. To some people they’re not “cuddle bugs”, they’re just “bugs”. Grrrrr. Double Grrrrr.
I 100% don't believe she could return the cat for free. Literally no one would pay to euthanize the cat if they could return it for free. The rescue is lying to make themselves look better.
The actual hell? So the beautiful cat has the nerve to try to be A CAT and get on your countertop and table, and for that it has to die? WHY would you even think that death is even an option!? So you’re actually saying the cat deserves to die instead of letting someone/anyone else give that cat a second chance at life? You sure as hell don’t deserve one!
I had a rescue cat who didn't just hop up on tables and counters, he was rather fond of stealing raw fish from the counter And veal. It literally never occurred to me even to think of having him put down for that. (I didn't hit him, either. I might have said his name in a mock-solemn tone and carefully lifted him down.)
@@resourcedragonYeah, I had a five pound hellion who was dumped in my backyard. She was an unrepentant thief, an acrobat who gave me heart attacks, and who slapped around other cats when she felt like it. I might have threatened her with reform school for cats, but......I just don't understand this. It seems to be directed at _cats_ most of the time. It's positively Freudian.
I mean, my cats have been taught from a young age not to go onto the kitchen counter or tables - by consequentially lifting them down from them with a sharp no. It's not like you can't train cats to not do certain things, but even then, a cat is a cat. They climb. It's natural to them.
@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 Some rescues in my area will have the cat chipped and the rescue organization will keep their information on the chip as well as the new owner's information. It's for precisely situations like these that they have to do that.
I suspect the rescue is chipping every pet they adopt out, and making sure that they are listed as a "backup" contact. Should also have the date of adoption record, so the vet could see the cat was JUST adopted.
@@r6u356une56ney Yeah, I thought the same, Good thing they did. There are still pets that don't have chips. I think it should become as common as getting the first check up.
@@r6u356une56ney I just adopted a pair and the vet wanted the vet records which had the shelter info on them. It's one way they can keep tabs on stuff like this.
If you are going to blatantly ignore the terms of an adoption contract like that and try to get the animal killed, you should be banned from adopting or owning any animal if not a few years, permanently.
@@debeb5148 animals are not property because the word simply does not exist in the consciousness of a well-educated human being, I come from the native people of this land, and the word that we call them translates to living beings of the earth just as we are, refers to beings that are alike, they have a spirit, a life, a mind, and a language in the same way we do. We are related to all creation, and are all equally important. It is only in the minds of ignorant men and women that have created this distortion foreign concept The only contributes to their self-serving needs. I call that a parasite that feeds on the living
The Rescue should be charging that woman for Animal Abuse. That woman doesn't know what a cat is all about. She should be banned from adopting any animal again
I hope that woman’s name has been passed around to all of the shelters and vets in the area, so they know not to let her have a second chance at putting down another cat that did not fit HER requirements. That’s despicable what she tried to do specially as she signed a contract, she was in full breach of the adoption contract.
@@creeper8647when I worked at a vet clinic, we had a woman bring in a cat that belonged to her parent that had passed. It was a young to mid age kitty with no previous health issues. The cat had been passed around by family members after the owner passed and when she was urinating on the woman's carpet she decided to have her put down. She had only had her in her home for two weeks. The baby was scared, confused, grieving and they wanted to just end her life instead of even thinking of alternatives. Needless to say we had her surrender the animal since there was no medical need to euthanize her, although I will also say that one of our veterinarians, just out of vet school, was willing to do it. I left that clinic soon after and he owns it now. He really enjoyed autopsies and surgeries. There are all types and we should always be aware that anyone can be a good or bad pet parent, no matter their income or lot in life and people in places of power, people with degrees and licenses are also just people and capable of the same issues and faults as anyone else.
@@creeper8647: I hope it's the first and last. She sounds incredibly immature (as well as an all-round piece of garbage human being). But is she mature enough to learn that cats are not for her.
@@creeper8647 Stuff like this happens more than people realize. My mom said that growing up, there was a family that she and my grandparents knew mutually through a friend who would buy pets on birthdays and major holidays and when the kids would get bored of them, they tried to do/successfully did what this woman attempted. Given this was decades ago before I was born, but I still hear things like this happening today. It's repulsive behavior and is wasting lives who could've gone to loving homes.
In this day and age when all you have to do is google, "how to keep my cat off the counter", why would you think killing that sweet kitty is an option? Shame on you. Horrible person.
This nut is a psychopath or something why was that her first action to have the cat put down and then what get another one? They know not to show this person because she would catch hell!
isn't it as simple as putting a sheet of foil on the counter? I'm not sure, my cats don't generally jump on the counter, and if one does, I just put it on the floor and sanitize the counter before using it. My cats will jump on the bathroom sink counter so I can groom them, I taught them it was a safe place to be and get brushie and pets.
Yep. This doesn't seem to be the case of someone who is "just" irresponsible and a bad pet owner, but of someone who is actually psychotic 😕 This story should immediately raise red flags and this woman should be charged and have in depth psychiatric evaluation but the justice system sucks...
My god. When I had to euthanize my cats due to illness, I was gutted. Utterly gutted. To just decide to euthanize a cat because she jumps on counters just boggles my mind. If I was closer, I'd adopt her in a heartbeat!
I can still recall how heartbroken I was when my kitten didn't come home from a check up, turned out he had been born with feline leukiemia, i've never been able to have another cat since
My cat has diabetes, I tried so many insulins and types of food. But she doesn't get better. I have thought about euthanasia for a while now, but it is really hard.
@@TheBontekraai have you tried new medications that have recently come out? these are taken orally -> Bexacat (bexagliflozin tablets) and Senvelgo (velagliflozin oral solution) (liquid) ask your vet
@@TheBontekraai one of mine , Raven, had epilepsy and I had to put her down and it’s beyond hard to let them go. But it’s about Quality of life not the Quantity.. and I’ll tell you it isn’t any easier if they pass in their sleep. A few years later I woke up at 3 am to find my beloved Manx, Canyon, had passed away in bed with me while sleeping on my feet. The loss is real no matter how they go.
@@justayoutuber1906and democrats kill babies. Since we’re bringing up things that have nothing to do with this news story for no other reason than to spread hatred for one political party or another
That is truly disgusting. This sweet kitty could have lost her life for nothing. So thankful this sweet baby was rescued, again, and I pray she gets a wonderful home. Hope the POS who tried to have her killed doesn’t get any more animals.
Imagine how many terrible people are putting down animals for ridiculous reasons. This kitty was saved thanks to a chip. connecting her back to the shelter. Imagine how many aren't saved.
The woman who was about to euthanize this sweet kitty is pure evil. Thank God the Veternary clinic contacted the rescue group. Anna will find a loving home.❤
They only adopt to people like that woman. Too many weird rules, e.g. you have to have owned cats in the past but not presently, no children at all (regardless of age), need a house of a certain size in a certain area, etc. etc.
@@MrEdrftgyuji Try getting a cat from a cat cafe they are a little more lax on the rules all they really expect you to do is basic care needs like cleaning the litter daily.
All the shelters here are so full they don't have any vacancies. We had a cat wander into our backyard and not leave. Took her to the Vet to see if she was micro-chipped and she was. Found out she was 8 years old and her name. They said all other info was confidential. They could not get hold of the owners. The Vet told us the pound would only hold an animal for 5 days and then they would put the animal down. We told the Vet we would take her home and take care of her if they would keep trying to find her family. Well, that was 6 years ago. If owners are ever found now, we would not let her go unless they paid us a 10$ a day kennel fee and reimburse us for all her vet bills. I figure no one would pay that much for a cat they dumped so she is safe with her staff, I mean new family, we will keep giving her belly rubs and ear scratches when she demands, I mean when she asks for them. ❤
@evies1050, Sooo cuuute! Yes, [we] know the difference between dogs and cats__dogs have owners, cats have staff! 🐾🐈😱😹😹😹😛 And you'd better not ignore their demands, or you will pay with some sort of misbehavioral catitude! 💩😛😺 🙏😇✨💫🌱🌿🌻🐝🌳🌎💖🙌😺
OWNER DIDN'T NOW kittens like to climb? She should be charged for breech of contract, and engendering an animal's welfare like a child. In Calif., it's illegal to kill healthy cats, and medical treatment has to be exhausted.
As it’s illegal for other pets. Interestingly, it’s not illegal to horribly mistreat and prematurely kill any other kind of animal. Weird kind of double standard, isn’t it.
I had tried adopting a calico to be a second cat to my tabby. Despite spending over 600$ in vet bills for urinary crystals, it proved that my first cat and the pretty calico were just not able to bond properly as the calico was an outdoor rescue and was too territorial for an apartment. I was unhappy but made the painful decision to return the calico to the rescue. It cost me 300$ plus the vet bills but I didn't think that I was going to return a sick cat or would I throw any animal away for doing what animals do. I am on a pension but an animal's welfare is much more important than being heartless.
I wonder if this woman has any children! What would she do with one of her kids if they did not obey her commands? Be very wary of "humans" who so nonchalantly would find it easy to hurt an innocent animal. This cruel act speaks volumes about the character of this woman: PURE EVIL!😢
We had an cat that jumped on counters and tables and loved to steal bites from our plates , she was favorite cat . had terrible food insecurity due to being from cat hoarder . we lost her last week at age 24 and now nothing seems same.
Holy cow. You gave that cat an amazing life for it to live to 24! I'm crying rn thinking about my 14 yo boy. I wish you the best and hope your goodest girl visits you in your dreams to check up on you ❤
She also gave us an amazing life as well, my kids were still in grade school when we first got her and now are in their late 20s to 30s .We also have two 14 year old cats , one is blind and dear lulu would sleep next to the blind one. My best friend was with us when my daughters picked her out at the shelter, my best friend is gone and my kids are grown, years are flying more quickly now. You did well with your boy also and he lived to an ripe old age , sorry for your lost and thank you for your kind words.❤😿
I'm so sorry for you. I lost one of my precious darlings a few months ago and my heart is still bleeding. She had horrible cancer but I kept getting food into her and watching over her. She passed away here at home in God's time, not mine. I'll never be the same...
Jackson Galaxy the cat expert pointed out that a lot of cat foods are causing oral cancers, lost my 12 cat to oral cancer and the 24 old cat had growth on her jaw , the vet couldn't do an operation. We changed our cat food to what vet remanded two years but it was probably too late. Sorry for your loss, she was lucky to have someone that loved her and never left her side.
Monster is a harsh word. Or would you call meat eaters monsters? After all, they condemn animals to a miserable life and their being killed well before their time.
A perfectly healthy beautiful senior cat I adopted a few years ago was going to be euthanized by her owners, and they'd had her from kitten-hood. Thankfully the vet called a no-kill cat shelter, where I adopted her. Mia had two more good years with me. Maybe that woman should just get a goldfish.
I am thinking the same thing. If she can't handle a cat, how the hell would she be able to handle kids? I hope she doesn't have any kids or any other pets. And heaven forbid if she ever tried to be a caregiver, she would smother the poor person because they were too hard to take care of.
Exactly. I see listings on Craigslist with people giving away pets they adopted from a shelter and they violated their contract and there are no consequences!
Most people honor their adoption contract. I used to text people at agreed upon intervals during the very beginning to keep the line open. Most people want to show you a photo of their new fur baby happy in their home. This is really very unusual which is why it made the news
There was no reason not to take the cat back to the rescue. I adopted a cat that had been returned 5 times. Sweetest baby, the problem turned out to be that she is not compatible with kids or other animals or loud environments. Perfect baby for this single lady. Doesn't claw furniture or climb on counters or tables, comes when called. She evens meets me at the front door every day when I come home.
That woman is a coward. Plain and simple. Nothing more to say. If I could I would 100% adopt this precious beauty. When I get back into my own home I absolutely will be rescuing another kitty. Since I lost Baby Bella a few years ago, and my home, job and everything from covid, I have not been able to adopt but I grew up with cats. They are my soul animals and this kitty just looks so pure and sweet. She will definitely be adopted out to a good home quickly. Thanks to you bringing attention to this sad story
This lady is sick in the head, unbelievable 😮. Thanks to the vet who reported this despicable act. Hope she can be charged and gets considered blacklisted in all shelters and pet smart all over US
I have a Calico, and she wanders wherever she wants. If she climbs up on the counter for pets, I clean the countertop after. I grew up around cats and dogs who were free to roam. You just have to clean regularly. I am happy the vet clinic called the rescue. Anna is a beautiful cat, and she wears those pearls well. ❤😼
They need to publish the animal name that wanted that healthy, beautiful cat to be put down, so she need to be barred from ever adopting a dog or a cat. Who knows how many times SHE has done that. Cats will climb on counters, closets, tables, anywhere that is high from the grown. It's in their nature. Any one that is going to adopt a cat needs to know or be OK for that cat to have free range inside the house, because they will scratch furniture, door frames, curtains you name it they will get into. What a moron she was for not knowing that about cats.
My home was the 4th home my PitBull was in. When I got her, I understand why people gave her up, she was a total Alpha dog and a brat. I didn’t give up, she became a marshmallow, had her for 12 wonderful years. Don’t give up on animals, that’s why they are called animals.
So the cat wasn't aggressive, destroying furniture or sickly. The cat was doing the most generic cat thing of jumping on the counter and table so that was reasonable enough to have her euthanize? Some people are just assholes.
That cat was clearly biting the shelter lady and her tail was whipping back and forth aggressively. How could you not see that?? In not saying she should be killed, but why are they lying??
@@LadyPashtaDid we watch the same video? For most of it, the cat was being cuddly/friendly, and the one clip of her biting anyone (which was played twice) was after the one petting her accidentally bumped or had their hand/arm really close to the cat's face. There was another clip of the cat hissing, but whatever she was hissing at couldn't be seen, and she clearly didn't mind any of the humans in the frame or the cameraman. She didn't even lunge at whatever was out of frame.
The cat seems a little high strung. And getting pregnant so young probably didn't help. But all that means is she needs a patient and experienced adopter to train out any undesirable behaviours (like biting or climbing up on counters and tables) and play with her lots and lots to burn up some crazy cat energy. Also, the cat would likely mellow as she got older. But whatever the issue, there's no reason not to simply return the cat to the rescue she came from.
The notion of euthanizing a friendly and healthy animal with a willing alternate caretaker because of a very common and mild behavioral issue is like...god forbid this woman gets any new pets or has children. No one with that severe a reaction to such a small inconvenience should be responsible for another living being
We had a now ex-friend who got a puppy, but had it put down because it demanded too much attention. We would have gladly taken it from her and rehomed it, but she couldn’t be bothered.
Never put a choker on a cat - or dog. The cat was just doing cat stuff. Put a notice in all the rescue agencies emails to not adopt anything out to that woman.
I've volunteered long enough to recognize revenge euthanasia. In my opinion she was trying to get revenge on someone else who loved the cat. It happens a lot, couple adopts animal, one of them gets attached to the animal, there is a breakup some time later for whatever reason, in revenge one of the persons attempts to euthanize the animal (sometimes with made up reasons). The clinics and adoption centers I used to volunteer at have protocols in place to catch this. Usually the cats are chipped and if taken to a vet the protocol is to contact the rescue if the owner comes in asking for euthanasia for the pet.
It reminds me of Viktor Larkhils Dog Huckleberry who was a puppy and was put down by his adaptors and not returned to Viktor he faught good against those devils in court.. poor sweet baby 😢
Some people are really sinister but thank God some human beings are even kinder than angels. We love this sweet cat & wish her a really caring home, a healthy & long life and loads of happiness too.
I hate people so much. I absolutely hate people. I work at an animal shelter, and if a person adopts an animal, but it turns out to not be a good fit, we do take the animal back, but even we had have people be stupid instead. Some will let the animals loose, and if animal control finds them, they get brought back. The woman who tried to put down that cat should be banned from owning animals. Cruel and disgusting.
that little meow she did into the mic is so cute. She seems like such a sweetheart; I don't understand why someone would try to euthanize her when it would be cheaper and easier to bring her back to the Rescue. The only thing that makes sense is that the owner was acting out of malice and for such a petty reason. I hope this cat gets adopted by someone that can give them a loving home.
I got my dog because of person like this. Archie was 6 months old when the couple who first had him wanted to put him down because their husky ATTACKED HIM. IT Took an hour of conversation to convince this couple to sign him over to the animal hospital I worked for at the time. 3 years, with some consistent training, he's doing great and is one of the best dogs I've ever owned.
Was the monstrous woman prosecuted? That was animal cruelty and breech of contract. The rescue needs to pursue this, and sue her! Make an example of her, and you journos should stay on it. The o ly way things will get better is with effort.🤗🤗🤗
Weird. Some people have no common sense. You have to teach your pet not to walk on the counter. My cat stopped doing it once he understood it was a no-no. People just don't want to put in the time.
