40s is great working weather. If I was closer I would bring a tractor with a 5 foot mower and front bucket. I'm so excited and it's not even my house. Another great video bub.
I remember back in the day, family, and friends would get together, and help each other on projects. We kids would have the best of times, we helped, but we got to see people we didn't ordinarily see everyday. Good to see Brian, have missed him. Love what you are doing, your doing what many of us would like to do. To late for me, to old now. Happy to see you have a mailing address now. Can't wait for the next video on this.
Love to watch the cleaning up process....with a chain saw and hard work you can bring it back to life again...im sure lots of memories are in that old house
Thanks for taking on this project!! Most people would think this house is a lost cause but it is part of the history of the area and should be saved as much as possible. It will be fun to watch the progress. Stay safe.
OMG that wisteria is taking over the whole tree, like a predator vine. All that lawncare and cutting things back is heavy work.Thx for all you do. It's lovely there.
All I want to do right now is buff and polish Brian's headlights 😂 and that paint. Show her some love man! Just found and started watching this series and I'm stoked. Happy for you guys, that's a lot of views!
Being an Arizona gal, I have never seen Wisteria. Looks like a formidable foe!!! A total labor of love, it shows on your face. Knowing where to get good eats is a must!!!!
That look like a planter. You know this is a good time of year to do this in the yard. You're not working in the heat. Great video God bless you all and be careful.
I have to hand it to you for tackling this project. It IS huge, but so worth it. I can't wait til you get to renovating that beautiful house. But, please, please, wear eye and ear protection while using that chainsaw! With a little luck, you will be older one day, and will say to your self "Why did I think I was indestructible?" It's a long life of regret, and I've heard so many people say this to themselves and others.... I wish you well!
I love doing this type of work! Nothing more satisfying than being able to see the fruit of your own labor. Do you have any volunteers wanting to help?
Thought I’d take a look back at the beginning. You have come along way baby. You should be proud of all the work that you have accomplished. It’s easy to forget what it look like when you first started. Thanks for taking us along on the ride.
I would love to renovate a cottage here in England but even ruins cost a lot of money here 😩. One day I’ll win the lottery and will do it 🥴🙏. I look forward to your videos, take care
Back for deja vu! I still plan on going back to the walk-about the 3 of you fellas did of the property before it was yours (and the boat in the woods! I'd still like a new update on that one!)
It’s hard for me to believe I have been watching these videos for over two years lol I can’t believe the improvements that have been done there on the Old Byrd Farm house and property
Best fried catfish I ever put in my mouth was at an isolated, no-name gas station smack in the middle of Texas. It was something of a local secret we stumbled into while on a Harley road trip. A group of ladies did a fish fry in the back of the gas station every Friday night, and they'd obviously been doing it their whole lives. Quite the well-oiled machine - no pun intended! The gas station had a nice little seating area hidden out back and we had a fabulous time eating, drinking and getting to know the local folks. You just never know what you'll find or who you'll meet when you take the blue lines on the map.
I just found this channel and I love it!!! You have your work cut out for you but when finished I'm sure it's gonna be awesome!!! Love the hat, it looks so good on you!!! Take care on all of your adventures, stay safe and God bless you & Brian!!!
it's pee CAN. I love wisteria. If kept trimmed, controlled and contained it will be beautiful. Not such a mess. 40s is cold in south Georgia. I love what you are doing. It's going to be a wonderful place. Keep up the great work you do.
I’m retired and live in North Carolina and if you guys ever need any help my wife and I are all in. We have a pretty big camper that we could tow down there and help if you need any. Ed
Those wisterias are gorgeous in bloom, but very invasive, I agree. We have trumpet vines up north here which can get huge also! Very cool video, Robert -- thanks! (Oh yum! I love fried chicken!)
Certain gas stations also have the best coffee. I know this project is your baby Robert but what an excellant community project these kind of thing would be. Can't wait for the next episode.🔨🚙
Love it guys❤️. Ah the sound of a chainsaw in the Fall woods, brings back happy childhood memories of cutting wood for our woodstove to heat the house . Great work clearing. Nothin’ better than sweet tea.
I am clearing an overgrown area up here in Wisconsin to restore an Oak Savanna habitat. It is just as thick here, but it's grape vines, hickory trees, honeysuckle, buckthorn, and other things in my way. Our wild grape get as big as that wisteria -- it's insane. It is definitely hard work! Good luck 😊
Well ur not far from me. I’m in Florida. Georgia has many parts of pretty country. I’m impressed with u buying this cool 140 year old house. From what I could see at one time it had its charm n I sure hope u r planning on bringing that back n not turning this into some modern house. I had k ow idea that Westeros vines got that big n privit hedges I remember my Moma telling that those were invasive. I’m looking so forward to watching ur Vlog. Be careful out there. ♥️😊👍
You probably find old relics of the 1800s from this yard and house. That would be nice. Glad you like these old houses I like these old houses too. I think of all the history that goes along with these old houses. You wonder about the people too and their lives through this time who lived there. I guess my imagination can go wild thinking about all the history of all the old historical houses left in this country. Not many left sadly to say but if we can save a few that would be cool..
11/24/2022: I re-watched this video. Lots of hard work and lots of great friends. You've made great progress and sometimes in the face of pretty major set backs.🚜
Would love some of that old pecan wood for some projects. That wood spalts beautifully so when you catch it before it decays too much you can create some beautiful work.
Wishing you all mm the best. Liked and subscribed :) Suprr happy to see one of these homes being appreciated and cared for and hopefully restored as close to when it came from as you can. God bless ! Awesome !
Never thought Wisteria got that huge. You have a big job there clearing everything and made a good dent into it. That fried chicken actually looked good and I don't usually go for that. Love the hat. Keep Safe❤ Keep Well ❤
That was fun. My husband uses something that will keep the trees from coming back and that vine once he cuts them down. Have to find out the name of it. You may have something else. I really like Wistaria. My husband hates it. Your right very Invasive. I'll bet it was beautiful in the spring but what a mess. It's crazy how that's taken over. Guess I won't get any of that. Nightmare. Have fun and have a good day. God bless 💖
I planted some a couple of years ago but so far it’s grown but not in an invasive way at all, so far. But, we’re in Indiana so may not be the same variety. I gotta hope it’s not what you all have there! Lol
Can you tell me what your husband used to keep the trees from coming back? I’d love to get control of my wisteria. It’s gone into the woods and heading to the neighbors yards. We’ll never completely eradicate it.
This is going to be a fun project to watch- looking forward to more videos. Clearing all the vegetation is going to make a huge difference. And, Yeah, gas station chicken (and pizza) is awesome here in Maine where we live.
WOW THIS HOUSE SEEN SOME HISTORY. CIVIL WAR HISTORY. BET THIS HOUSE COULD BE RESIRED TO ITS ROOTS TO THE FAMILIES LIVED IN THIS HOUSE DURING THE CIVIL WAR. HOPE THIS HOUSE GETS RESTORED. SO WE CAN SEE WINDOWS INTO THE PAST. THAT WOULD BE NICE. THANKZ FOR SHARING.
Overgrown and diseased old trees are a major problem here in Houston County, GA. I bought a chainsaw, and a big bottle of brush killer, when I bought my home here 5 years ago. I just wish some of my neighbors cared enough to clean out their old trees and brush too.It would make for a much better neighborhood. Hopefully they will watch your videos and get inspired. Nice to see Brian out helping you !!
Just a word of advice, as we have done a lot of construction. Don't spend a ton of time on restoration on the house until you go a good assessment of the structure. The rot and decay may have done more significant damage that you can easily see.
40 degrees in S Georgia is cold! On another topic, please wear protective eye gear when using the chainsaw. Don’t want anything to happen to those peepers.
you need a forest mulcher. Its like a skid steer with a long arm with a brush hog on it. It can clear pretty thick tree saplings and thick vines and under brush.
What great guys. Take your time I care about that wonderful Old Farm. I just love people like that. That's why I used to love to talk to my Grammy's cuz he had so much wisdom and experience and I was blessed they were both sweet one would tell me about my Cherokee heritage or the other one would tell me about my English, and Irish heritage. So I'm a mutt. One live near me and my family and the other lived in Oklahoma. Which means Redman country or territory Cherokee.
Yes! I grew up in a tiny Agrarian (Ag-focused) Mennonite settlement in SW OK (1,200 pop.), & an Interstate Hwy. is: 20 min.s away. The local gas & diesel stations are used by the elder farmers & ranchers for early-mornin' coffee & a short visit, before their work days begin. The local high schoolers are allowed off-campus for lunch, & the gas stations are over run at noon by high schoolers, grabbing a bite to eat. (Our cafeteria ladies make great food--Bierox is one traditional favorite--browned beef, caramelized chopped onions & scalded shredded cabbage, all wrapped into a: "meat-pie", stuffed inside a browned, buttery Zwiebock dinner roll, & they can be smothered with: thick, hot, cheddar cheese soup--MMMmm! They make many delicious recipes.) But: that gas-station food can be a welcome "change" from the total subversive environment of Dutch, Swiss, German & Russian-based: old Mennonite recipes that almost every family in the area eats at home, every day. Thanks for sharing your honorable work at one of the old: "Byrd" plantation homes, there in GA. That family line has a great genealogical history-nice to see this progress in restoring the land. If you plan on working the land: Joel Salatin has some wonderful books, a website & he is featured on many You Tube channel interviews, focusing on Sustainable, Simple Agriculture practices. ("Polyface Farms" is Mr. Salatin's incorporated farm business name.) God Bless You.
Those large sections of wisteria vines ( especially the ones braided together ) would be beautiful to let dry and display in garden beds. Looking forward to the progress of this old farm. Subscribed today .
I love what you are doing. I Love old houses. Please don't take this the wrong way, but Please put on protective glasses. My son almost got hit in the eye (there was blood) and it was my fault.(I was the one who threw the limb). I didn't even think of putting on protective glasses.
