thank you so much for making this video. it is mind boggling to know that people will just get an animal with no education on their care!!! I feel like you would be a great foster parent for any guinea pig shelters in your area!! especially given your platform!! def something to look into! great work and wonderful channel, sending all the love :)
I rescued a hamster that I saw online. He was kept in a tiny wire carrier without any hides and no wheel either. It broke my heart, when I got him home and all his natural instincts came out it was amazing seeing him rolling in his sand bath, making burrows and ofc running on his appropriately sized wheel! I'm not sure how long he will live after such a sad start to life I'm just glad he gets to experience the care and love he deserves now.
It's amazing to see how animals know what to do when they are given the correct housing/items. Warms my heart seeing any animal thriving, just how they should be 😊
@@hannahfrll He's living his best life! He is healthy and happy I'm just not sure about long term effects since he was very malnourished when I got him. Thanks for saving your hamster too, it's so rewarding to be able to rescue any animal. Hope they makes you as happy as I'm sure you have made them.
I rescued a hamster in a similar situation. The family wanted to get rid of the hamster because it was too loud, when I came to pick her up she had only a water bottle and a tiny house, no wonder she made so much noise, she was bored. She had another cage with a really tiny wheel, but the owners told that it was too noisy! It actually damaged her back. She had now an 800 square inches cage and lives her best life with a big 28 cm wheel (she's a Russian). We now use her to make other people aware of what can happen when you don't care for them in a proper way. She's so sweet and loves to be around people, it's so sad that she has to gone through this all
as a ferret owner, that cage isn't good for ferrets either! It would probably be most useful as a temporary rescue bird cage assuming you removed the levels. So glad you were able to rescue the piggies!
And it's not suitable for chinchillas either! It's too small and the levels would hurt their feet. They could even break a toe or leg if they get caught up in it.
it literally only look like a temporary bird cage because most smaller birds (i only know abt small birds) needs longerr not taller cages, maybe if you keep the door open almosy all the time its ok
@@qorvid Actually this would make a terrible travel cage for small birds, too! The bar spacing is waaay too wide to be safe. Birds small enough to comfortably travel in that cage are also small enough to wedge their heads between those bars and possibly hurt themselves.
You could see and feel the excitement and happiness in their little faces and bodies. You are such a sweet and gentle human being. People like you just make a difference in this world!
If only people had the brain capacity to do some basic research on a pet before buying them :/ So glad these boys got a happy end! All you animal rescuers are true heroes.
Sorry but im one of those buyers who impulsively bought a guinea pig from how cute "she" who ended up being a "he" and then i did research after that and figured out alot and i even bought the dam stupid cage from the pet store but in a week i bought him a c&c cage and hes more happier now and even bought him hay so even if u buy one and dont know what to do go and look for information
Trouble is that a lot of people think that pet shops are a reliable source of information, and so will only get their information from there. It’s sad 😕.
@@lokitabesos1551 the fact is you learned and made improvements where as other people refuse to learn and just buy it because they prefer it for their conveniency
The saddest thing is that they do have the capacity to do the research, to give these animals a good life, but they’re just so damn lazy and don’t care. That is the most heart breaking thing to me. My former friends kept my chinchilla, who I spoiled with the best toys, best food, best everything. I was away visiting family for a couple of weeks and when I went to pick him up they laughed and informed me he had starved to death because they kept forgetting to feed him. He was a stunning violet chinchilla named Pluto… these people have the messiest apartment with a blue healer who urinates and defecates on everything and two cats who do the same. It was my fault entirely that Pluto is gone, I thought I could trust these people and they were my last resort, but in hindsight I should’ve found a reputable sitter. I won’t be getting another chinchilla for a while… it’s been over a year and I’m still mourning the loss of my boy…
It is so extremely sad that the previous “owners” never even had to interact with the pigs if they didn’t want to. Fill up their pellet food, fill the hay from outside of the cage, clean out the litter, etc. I can’t imagine not interacting with my babies every day in some way 🥺
I don’t think lots of people realise how long guinea pigs can live, so they get them for their kids thinking they’ll only have them for a couple years like a hamster. My piggies lived for nearly 9 years, so they’re almost as much of a commitment as getting a cat / dog! They make amazing pets but people should definitely do their research before getting them. My Guineas had a huge run in the garden which they LOVED during the summer months, but as they got older we had to bring them inside in the winter as it gets too cold for them and you can’t just stick them in a tiny cage in the corner! Thank you for rescuing these boys, unfortunately I’m sure there are many others that sadly live their lives like they were 😔
I agree! It’s really sad that people will dedicate 10+ years and a whole house for their dog or cat but won’t even give a rodent the minimum they need. Wish more people could educate themselves before owning pets
First video I have seen from this channel. I'm terrible: I'm trying to concentrate on the interesting rescue story, but keep getting distracted by how good looking they are.
I like this person so far but I think they sinformation information hould try to be a little more sensitive to other people. Mostly because the people they're meeting with are rehoming the animals and it's really important to realize that pet stores are often giving terrible information about care. I think that it's the pet stores that give terrible care instructions and even when people do what they believe is the best, the stores are awful
When he started playing with the toys my heart melted! Thank you for rescue them! I rescue cats and dogs in my city, and is my dream to rescue and adopt Guinea pigs when i have more time and space that's why i always learning. Love your channel and your piggies.
Thank you for giving these piggies a second chance. It breaks my heart, and many times it is not the owners fault, the pet store don't educate new owners. If they bought that cage at the same time as the piggies, then shame on that store! Thank you again for driving so far to rescue these precious little creatures.
If they are making a commitment like that and getting any animal they need to do as much research as possible. No excuse to not know better. I worked at a chain pet store and they don’t really educate us or require us to educate others on certain things. Not saying it’s right though. That just made me want to learn as much as possible for myself and so I can properly educate customers but so many times have I had people not listen to me and not do the research no matter how hard I try. Most times customers want the cheapest route which means crappy food and smaller cages and lack of necessities.
Kayla your right a lot of people out there who think that they have to save your by the cheapest items out there haven’t learned that there are some things that just can’t save on everything that there are just something’s things that you just don’t skimp on it so sad that there are people out there that are that selfish that they don’t really care about their animals I think that anybody that bys animal has to learn how to take care of the kind of animal that are going to get before they by it
My first rat cage was marketed as a rabbit cage. It was an OK size for two rats who get taken out to play every day. It was *way* too small for any rabbit, even the smallest breeds.
@@kmcol.8882 The problem is that pet stores DO educate, it's just their "education" often lines up with what they sell on their own shelves. Why would you expect anyone to look up answers to a question they already got answered by an establishment that you presume to have knowledge on said animal (given that they are currently housing x amount of that animal on sale, and selling countless cages and toys and food types for them) Pet stores should be legally required to either carry items for PROPER care of the animal and NOT sell improper items (cages too small, bad diets, dangerous toys), or not be allowed to sell the animal.
The cage that they were previously in honestly isn't big enough in my opinion for any animal. Rats, ferrets, chinchillas and degus. I bought it once and returned it after I saw how little space my boys had. That was after I removed the levels and ramps. Some cages these companies make are just ridiculous.
I 100% agree. I have talked to a few people since posting this video and has realized just how useless this cage is for any animal. I will be donating it to my local SPCA ✨
the only thing i could see possibly working was maybe for a hamster if you laid it on the long flat side and removed the ramps and had a bedding. other than that no animal could use it
@@talkingraccoon525 wouldn't even work for a hamster. They're another animal that needs a lot more space than most people think. This cage is basically suitable for nothing.
This warmed my day with happy smiles, these boys look so at home with you. They obviously love their new environment and having more space. Seeing them explore, and eat their veggies, enjoy a pamper and have a check up. So glad they have a new home to go to, but i would find parting with them really difficult. They are such sweet piggiez ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎
It's going to be so hard to part ways with them, but I know it'll allow for me to have the opportunity to save more piggies in the future. These boys have stole my heart already 🥺
All my Guinea Pigs are rescued. Its means so much that someone cares! 2 of my Guinea Pigs were in a small pet store cage with wood bedding that hasnt been changed in 4 months! One of them unfortunately had a urinary infection and passed 3 months after having her. But she really enjoyed what life she did have with me. She was so happy and was definitely a snuggler! Then I rescued two more. One owner couldn’t financially take care of them so they haven’t eaten in days. And the other one came from a breeder and didnt take care of them. I was so upset that she was breeding them but apparently she stopped and was giving them away. She had one male and one female so I took the female since I have females and my friend took the male since he has males and now we are wanting to build a setup to rescue more! On another note, I love your videos and how educational they are! Cant wait to see more! Much love! ❤️
I live in NJ and I just adopted guinea pigs from a co-worker. Only after getting the piggies and reading more about their needs did I realize they were not being taken care of as well as they should be. I'm determined to spoil them now, especially as my first pet. Your videos are very helpful, thank you.
This is so heart warming. Thank you for doing this and taking in these poor piggies, they seek like they're already doing SO much better in your care. I can't wait to do this when I'm in my own house. This makes a huge difference for so many pigs in need. Sending love from me and my 6 piggies! ❣❣
I have had a lot of 🐖 s, they were all so spoiled, vegetables twice a day, tons of hay, lots of toys. My last 🐖 an agouti abbisinian, loved me the most I think, he use to lay on my shoulder, push my chin up and groom my chin for about half an hour every time I held him. These poor babys, thanks for rescuing them . I miss having pig's I am extremely disabled now and it would not be fair if I could not take the time to concentrate on their care instead of my own.
I did do some research before getting my hamster, but not enough. I realized he needed a bigger cage, chew toys and a bigger wheel. I bought him all that stuff with my birthday money. I don't understand how people can just get animals and not strive to improve their care.
Yeah, I don't get where they specially got that cage from, a 3 year old should see it's not for guinea pigs, people who are too lazy to research and care for their animals shouldnt get animals. And how can people leave everything smelling pee.
Thank you for taking the time and money to give your pet hamster a happier life! I wish that everyone spent the effort to make sure their pets were well cared for
I'm so glad you are helping these two boys get healthy 💙. The new owner who gets them will have healthy piggies. I agree with you 💯 % that before bringing any pet into your home you must research their proper care and needs! I always research first. Often, it saved me and the animal of not being the right fit. And when it was the right fit my animal had a great life, and I truly enjoyed/loved them and now miss them.
finally getting around to finishing this video, and I am so saddened to see the conditions they were in. so glad you shared the food and treats they were being given so people know what NOT to do. i got so emotional watching you clip their poor little nails and watching him play with his new toy... thank you for saving these babies austin
I don't understand how people can be so clueless about animals when like you said there is so much information about animals out there, once I rescued 5 male guniea pigs which was all shoved in one tiny cage they could hardly move they was also fighting each other as well and they had so many cuts and abscesses on them as well i felt so bad for them and the owners didnt even know that the have to clean the males sack all their nails was overgrown as well so I decided to help them and now I separated the ones which was fighting and they have big areas to run around in and I like to see how much happier they are from before :)
You can see how red the bottoms of his feet are just running around poor baby ! So happy you have him also did you notice the mini popcorn of him laying down the first pig you put into the cage when he first went in the purple house ❤️❤️😍
I had to drive 3 and a half hours to get my two 3yr old girls and 3 and a half hours to get them home. The only medical issues they had was due to their diet, their pee was weird colours and they were severely over weight. The vet gave them antibiotics and I started feeding the correct food. I love my girls and I’m so happy that I rescued them. They may be my first piggies but they certainly won’t be my last. 🥰
Look, I love guinea pigs. I have 5 right now (two previously have gone to the rainbow bridge). I say this because I need you to know that I'm here to genuinely watch your video but goddamn that fabulous hair has me mesmerized. Okay, onto the video! ...
No, they probably didn’t like all the negativity, name-calling and snottiness from His Highness, the Lord of Everything Piggy. Those animals look perfectly healthy.
this video makes me so happy inside. i just recently rescued 2 females from a bad home. i’m 15 with 8 pigs and it’s videos like this and the way i feel for pigs that keeps me doing what i’m doing. ur amazing ❤️
Your love for these piggies has made me fall in love with you and your channel! And you look so beautiful it's insane! I have been bingeing all your videos ever since I found you. The world needs more of your heartwarming content!❤🐹
I rescued a cockatiel we found at the park last year, and the first time he ate fresh fruit I cried tears of joy. Seeing these sweet piggies eat fresh food made my heart explode😭❤️ Sadly I think many people do not research animal care because it’s too complicated for them to comprehend-and I don’t mean that flippantly. The US literacy rate among adults is SO terrible that 50% of us are reading and writing at a 7th grade level, while most articles are written at 12th grade level.
Everything you do is absolutely amazing. I admire what you do so much and wish I had the means to do it myself. Thank you for everything you do for all of these babies.
I know I’m super late, but you are such a beautiful human, inside and out. Thank you for saving these sweet boys. They were so calm while you clipped their nails and they looked so happy to have a soft surface to walk and sleep on. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into their care.
Always baffles me that people don't bother to research a pet before they get it. I spent nearly 2 years making sure I knew EVERYTHING about caring for a bearded dragon before I got one because I didn't wanna screw up anything, ESPECIALLY with how sensitive they are in the first year or two. Kink (named for the kink she had at the end of her tail when I got her) is a happy, healthy, and sassy dragon who just had a 2nd birthday!
this video is old but just want to say (if you didn't in the video, i haven't finished it yet) that cage is NOT big enough for rats either!!! especially with the awful flooring! it's a shame pet stores sell those, my cage for my 3 rats is 4x that size!
Awww, I'm so happy for them that God blessed them with a person like YOU! You can tell they knew you were helping them because of how calm they were when you were doing their ears, makes my heart so happy. I can't imagine how horrible it was for them in that tiny cage, I can only imagine that they couldn't find even an ounce of comfort and relief for their poor little feet and the pain they must have had to endure just to eat. Thank goodness you were able to reduce them. It makes my heart so sad to know there are still piggies out there in those kind of living conditions, poor babies! We would love to get updates about them from their new forever home!
It really is so sad to see animals in these conditions, but what you did has really changed their lives and you should be so proud!! I love your videos, you can see how much yoy genuinely love your potatoes!! If only we could save them all x
Your vid is the 1st guinea pig recommendation i've had on RU-vid. I rescue dogs, foster, then find homes for dogs a ton and am more known for that, but what a lot of people don't know is that i also rescue and own fish and hamsters. Being a hamster owner, i watch a TON of ham vids. I am constantly trying to educate myself, and my smallest enclosure is 6' x 4' x 3' (L x W x H). I own 6 hamsters atm - including some rescues. I rescued 2 hams within the last year. The two i got were kept in a "cage" that wasn't even a foot long, wide, or tall. No wheel, improper bedding (and not enough), horrible diet, no chews, and they were kept IN THE SAME "CAGE." I was horrified. I don't have my license, so i had to arrange to be driven 1.5hrs out to get them (it was hard to convince someone to drive me that far for them), but I'm so glad I did. They each have their own enclosures now, they are thriving, and they literally lack for nothing. It breaks my heart seeing how neglected small animals are. Hamsters and small rodents really should not be advertised as pets for children, and the minimum space required needs to be cracked down upon. You do end up spending a lot of money on them - because they are like any other pet you would have (dogs, cats). With the access we have to information right at our fingertips, i really hope people actively start to educate themselves more and more before taking home one of these little ones, be them guinea pigs, rabbits, rats, mice, or hamsters. A happy animal brings such joy to your heart you don't even know you need. From the bottom of my heart - thank you for being such an amazing, caring pet owner
I think the owner of the guinea pigs who treat them badly should have given you money for a vet. it is very good that you are saving guinea pigs. You are fantastic
I just got to the point where it's revealed the cage they were in was made for ferrets--I have ferrets, and would NOT recommend putting ferrets in that cage either, at least not permanently, due to the size and wire floors. Cage manufacturers need to be held to higher standards period :(
I've never seen your channel before (it randomly came up in my RU-vid recommendeds) but THANK YOU for rescuing these wonderful piggies! I cried several times throughout this video
right i thought the same! beauty on the inside really shines through especially when someone is showing so much kindness and compassion to innocent animals ❤
I was planning on getting two Guinea pigs and because of your videos I hopped on Craigslist instead of going to a local piggie rescue. And I found a bonded pair in need. Not even close to what your rescues go through but you inspire so many people. I did research but your videos helped 100%
I clicked on this video just because of the beautiful person in the thumb nail. What an enamoring human being!! AND they're doing a great service to Guinea pigs and guinea pig owners to boot!! I love it!!
This is such an informative video! Thank you for taking the time to show us how to care for these babies! I don't have guinea pigs but they are special little souls.
Thank you for talking about how rescuing animals can come with some big expenses both in money and time. We should all rescue when and where we can, but to expect the unexpected. I've rarely had a rescue pet who didn't need some kind of medical care. It's always rewarding, but it's not something to take lightly.
Thank you for rescuing these boys. My heart just sinks when you hear of these situations. A friend of mine works in an institution for mentally disabled persons. One of his clients has a solitary pig. The guinea pig is a comfort to that person so I'm glad but nobody there knew how to care for a guinea pig. I'm happy that my friend started asking questions when they saw my pigs and I've been able to give guidance on food, and even on getting the poor solitary pig a friend!
This is unrelated to the video but did you guys hear about Winter (the dolphin)? She passed away on Thursday after living 16 amazing years 😔 2005-2021 🐬❤️
@@jesusisafly8689 I didn’t know that…. It is sad there’s movies books everything about them? I saw them in person too so it’s even more sad. almost everyone knows who they are.
I was so happy when they started throwing the toys around 😍😍 bless you for saving them from that death trap! Also just tip you can put the cbd on his feet help relieve the soreness :)
Hello Austin, I know this is a very old video, but I came across your RU-vid channel yesterday and have been listening with great interest. I totally agree with you; I have four cats, and I did so much research before I got every single one because they are all different breeds. I don't think I will be getting guinea pigs any time soon because of my cats, however, I am really interested in them, which is why I started to listen to videos on them, which is why your video came up in my feed I believe. I am thinking When these cats do Leave my life, I might get some guinea pigs, so this is why I am interested as well. Anyway, could not agree with you more and I love what you were doing. It sounds like you really have comfort in mind for these lovely animals, and that is just so good!
I’d recommend wooden houses, cause u can’t see through and the piggies really feel safe. They aren’t able to chew on the plastic either. I still wanted to add that ur amazing and that I love your channel :) ur a hero 😍
