My oil pan leak is repaired. Resealing my Mk7 steel oil pan was time consuming, mostly due to the need to clean away old RTV. Also covered in this video are the results of a brake pad inspection (with fluid flush), the search for a coolant leak, and spark plug replacement.

I got the same skid plate for my MK5 love the piece of mind when going over rough roads!

Yes! Some people don't understand that not all GTIs stick to asphalt. I see gravel roads from time to time. Yes, it's horrible, I'm sure. ;-) Thanks for visiting.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered the same gasket for my steel oil-pan. I'm not plan to put it on any time soon. The car only has 6K on the clock. LOL

Hang it in the garage as a decoration. That's what I did with a head gasket for a car that wound up never needing a head gasket. ;-) Thanks for visiting.

I think the spec are 8NM and 45 degrees, so that's 1/8 turn. About to do my pan shortly, just shopping for the gasket now. thanks for the video.

Thanks for the info! I think I was doing that I felt like the thread was at the edge of stripping. I don't recall what spec I use, but I do recheck them from time to time. Thanks for visiting!

Always just try to tighten the pan down. Anything aftermarket can shake loose. Just re torque and see what happens

Since you put so many miles on your car maybe you can talk about which tires you like? Summer? Winter? All season? I saw a little on your site but a video with updates would be great.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that when I put new tires on my gun metal gray Nogaros. Thanks for visiting.

Hi what size are the screws of the steel oil pan, i know the size or lenght is different front the oem oil pan, but if you use the tiguan oil pan gasket you still use the screws from the steel oil pan or the oem bolts?? Thanks in advance Ps. Nice video as always
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 3 года назад
Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, I don't know the screw size. I bought the pan as part of a kit that had shorter screws included. Several resellers market their pans as kits. Take Care!

How is holding up the Tiguan gasket?
@HA-up5qq
@HA-up5qq 2 года назад
Can you use the same screws and do you need new screws with the metal sump?
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 2 года назад
The steel pan is thinner than the plastic. So, shorter screws are required. Most steel oil pan kits come with shorter replacement screws. Thanks for visiting.

Did you put gasket sealer on the gasket before you installed??
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 8 месяцев назад
I did. Between my car and my daughter's Golf, I find it a challenge to perfect the amount of sealant to use. Too little and the pan will eventually leak; too much and you risk having a loose bead in your oil sump. My pan developed a leak. I removed the sealant, scraping all surfaces clean, and installed a gasket from a Mk1 Tiguan, available at amzn.to/3uYukDe. Thanks for visiting!

Just got told by my shop.. shocker.. my oil pan is leaking at 53k .. Car is a 2015.. has been very good to me otherwise .. only other issue is some of the silver trim is coming up off the car.. oddly seems to be all at the same time.

At 75k miles, I'm starting to see moisture mostly around the drain plug and oil sensor on the original plastic oil pan. How did you confirm that your original leak was from the pan and not from the timing belt cover?
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 7 месяцев назад
I cleaned my oil pan and anywhere else that I could see oil to perfection. Clean as high as you can possibly see oil. Leaks will always drip from the lowest point; so, clean higher than the leaks. I finished my cleaning with brake cleaner so that the surface was clean and dry before proceeding. From there, I could have added a UV dye, but I was comfortable with just dragging my fingers along the surfaces to see when I found moisture. I left my engine cover off for the testing and would park on a pair of ramps. My first inspection was after just one drive. Everything was dry. So, I then inspected every evening until I found moisture. Catching the leak very early and before it was a mess made it very easy to see the origin of the leak. Good luck with your search and thanks for visiting!

@@StealthGTI Thanks for the info about using a gasket instead of just silicon. I was able to find a pan and gasket. Using a gasket is just one of those things that will work but because its an aftermarket upgrade, its not listed anywhere officially for a GTI. I plan to do it tomorrow, and I wanted to re-watch your install regarding torque specs. Technically, 8NM and 45 degrees are for metal-on-metal with silicon install. Since you did 8NM -12NM using a gasket and it didn't crush or split the soft gasket, I'll follow your lead. If it leaks a little after installation, I'll just increase the torque slightly all around. I plan to only use silicon between the gasket and pan to hold it down during installation and avoid getting any on the motor side so future re-install will be easier without the need to scrape silicon while laying on my back.
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI Месяц назад
@@MLeung-vl7we - I did not use any silicone along with my Tiguan gasket. Choose one or the other. Also, I agree with your assessment that the specified torque on the steel pan does not include compensation for the gasket. I should look up the specs for a Mk2 Tiguan oil pan and use those instead. Take Care!

Ordered the pan but the gasket is unavailable thru Amazon. Saw it on another site & in description it says PAPER. So i wanted to know is your gasket made frm Rubber or Paper?
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI Месяц назад
Some sites say that it's made from "fiber." Mine was fairly rigid; so, I suspect that it's a reinforced paper of sorts. It's still holding well. Thanks for visiting!

What size torx size for the sum plug?
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI Год назад
No idea. Factory plug was something that can be removed with a screwdriver. My steel pan was quickly replaced by a Fumoto valve. Since then, I've been extracting my oil through the dipstick tube; so, I don't ever remove the plug. Thanks for visiting.

Is that a wired bike computer?!
@StealthGTI
@StealthGTI 4 года назад
Haha! It is. I used to ride in randonneuring events, which are timed-distance events. Since being able to follow navigation cue sheets is critical, I decided to use redundant computers, one wired and one wireless. It sucks to have a battery die in the middle of a 400-km ride. Having a back-up is great. Thanks for visiting.

So how has the gasket on the steel pan been holding up? I have a similar leak over time with my metal pan.... Did you apply any rtd or only used the tiguan gasket?
