@@AUTOT3KHCLhey, thanks for the videoa. Im also in canada and my dealers here in ontario are useless! Can you link the obd2 reader you used? Does it read codes?
Huge thanks for this well-done tutorial. Got my service light reset. Only issue I had to buy a stupid Android phone to do it as well as Tune ECU. But my dealer is an hour away, and oil change is every 6 mos.
Android phone and TuneECU……does it require an internet connection to connect to triumph’s mainframe, or no internet required just Bluetooth from the phone to the TuneECU ? And how easy is it?
Just got my elm obd2 scanner for 9 bucks on Amazon. Can't wait to use it !! Thanks for the awesome info. I used to have a 2020 triumph rocket and of course we all feared the dealer . Not no more . 😂
does it work with the rocket? i just bought myself a 2021 rocket. and i ride alot 15-25k km each season so cant be bothered to ride halfway across the country to one of the 2 triumph dealers in sweden. would love to be able to reset the light myself since it not that hard to change the oil and filter.... i dont wanna waste time and money for a dealer to do it
@rasmusf5615 I sold the rocket and never had to have the light reset . I currently own a 2020 Bonneville. Truth is, you have to pay a fee like 50 or 60 bucks just for the app service. The guy who owns the rights is now charging. Used to be free. So I gave up on the idea . Sorry I couldn't help .
@@AUTOT3KHCL I bought an street triple RS this august, i usually perform my service on my own so that light was annoying for me to, but you fixed it...
@@AUTOT3KHCL As a good automobile salesman said "all the money in the business is in cost of ownership not in selling the commodity." PS: I just made that up.. but that's what i think it is.
I bought the tuneECU thru A**$@n for 28 Dollars. It's a little old school, you get a disc to download into the computer and OBD connection old style USB. It works great. TuneECU support was excellent 🤩
OMG, I so wish I saw this before paying my dealer! I ALREADY OWN ONE OF THESE, UGH! They were gonna want $350 had I not changed my own oil for $50! Instead they charged me $70 to clear the indicator and adjust my chain and trust me I could use the $70 right now! Great to know for future oil changes though, thank you! ELM327 refers to a "protocol" that converts car/moto OBDII/CAN BUS data to be converted to a USB or BT connection btw ; )
I live an hour and a half away from my Triumph dealer and I hate the idea that these motorcycle dealers are forcing consumers to have routine oil changes done at a dealer, my dealer wants $297.05 for the first 500 mile service, so there going to change the oil and reset the oil light and maybe do a scan, for almost $300 bucks. I like to work on my own equipment because I never know if the knucklehead that they hired is going to do something wrong to my bike if he's having a bad day, or to increase profits for his motorcycle business. Oh yea, the 10,000 mile service is $426.05. I should leave my 360 go pro camera running to see what's actually being done for that kind of money.
You speak for us all my friend. My first triumph service was $402.75, second service was the same. My service light just came on at 3000 miles when the manual says it’s supposed to be scheduled at 10,000 miles. I wonder why…?
TuneECU now works with 2024 Street Triple 765 to reset SEL. You need an Android device, an OBD to 6 pin connector on the bike (Amazon about $10), OBD BT module like OBDLink MX+ and follow instructions in this video and in the app. May cost about $200 if you buy all these items but quickly pays for itself compared to dealer visit and now you have a powerful servicing tool for your bike.
Dealers can be outrageously expensive. I blame it on most people not wanting to do their own work and they can charge whatever they want too. $60 tire change (per tire) $240 fork seal change My favorite. $150 for an oil change. Use all the special oils and filters you want. It still doesn't justify that price tag.
I have this issue also. They can pound sand. The little wrench has been saying hello for over 600miles now. This "Tune ECU" will work on a Street Scrambler also? Subscribed.
Just a note here: It is very important that the date and time is set correctly on the bike before trying to use TuneECU. (Don't ask me how I know!) Also, TuneECU can do a lot more than reset the service intervals; it can read and delete fault codes and can be used to tune the ECU (be careful and know what you are doing or just don't do it). Also, not sure if this has changed since I bought it but I got a license for using this on up to three motorcycles. I think there is also an unlimited license. There's also a long list of MCs that TuneECU can be used with.
Not just Triumph does this, but my '21 Ducati Monster did the same thing. I suspect more higher-end motorcycle manufacturers are going to try and force you into the dealership with this nonsense. So here I sit with a 2021 Rocket 3GT which I bought using a flashing service warning light with no ability to reset it. Thankfully I'm already familiar with TuneECU. However please be aware that different bikes will require different OBD programmers. In my case, I have an OBDLinkMX+ which I'm using with a Samsung S8 (spare phone). Anyhow thanks for the info. The long and short of this is you need to do your research and make sure you get the right adapter for your bike and understand how to use TuneECU.
I still would've bought the bike but its something I would've liked to know before purchasing, oh by the way... you cant reset the service light without a tool and we charge $50 to do that
This is great, but if it does not work any more if you have any ECU update installed after the original one. It worked for me the first 4 resets but then a dealer installed a map for slip-on exhaust and with that I can't reset the service interval.
I walked into a Triumph dealer last week to have them scan my check engine light. I lost my OBD2 action device while I was moving so I decided to ask the dealer what code was coming up. $65 to tell me the code and like $300 to diagnose the issue. I said, what?! And I had to schedule an appointment? Absolutely insane! I take my car to Toyota, they will gladly check my car out and tell me what’s wrong with it just so that they can earn my business of actually repairing the car. Yeah, motorcycle dealers are crazy. I dug everything up and found 2 scanners. One Bluetooth just like the one in this video, and a cable one with a display and read + Erase buttons. So much easier. All those checklist items they list that they check is bullshit! They don’t check everything. They only check basics and the problem area. That’s what they did when I forked out $1200 for a valve check 4K miles ago. Came back home and the coolant was low. I told them to check the coolant because it looked low. And they actually reinstalled incorrect body panel bolts. Chain wasn’t cleaned or lined. You know that phrase, “ If you want it done right, do it yourself?” So true!
I know exactly what you're saying. The bike service industry seems to have lower standards and they think its ok... its not! Im on the fence with that valve adjustment service because I know they wont do it properly but they're also claiming my warranty wont let me do it... maybe an email to triumph to ask is in order!
AUTOT3K HCL If you have less than 20k miles I wouldn’t worry about the valve clearance check. 99% sure it’s fine. Mine was checked twice during the first 20k. In spec both times. If you don’t constantly redline the bike, you really shouldn’t worry about it. A far as my check engine light is concerned. Turned out to be the fall sensor under the rear pillion seat. Probably a little bit of water for in it when I washed my bike or my tool kit bumped it under the pillion seat and set it off. I cleared the code with my scanner tool, light didn’t come back. I probably would have forked out $400 at the dealer for this ($200 to diagnose and $200 to replace a perfectly good sensor): Pretty crazy if you ask me.
Vic Wiseman so true buddy. I went over my immaculate 2 year old Speedy with a video camera the day before i sent it into Triumph dealer such is my lack of confidence in them. I do my own maintenance but I didn’t have the software to modulate the ABS for a fluid change so I put it into the dealer to do for £45 which i thought wasn’t too bad considering. When i got it home the rear hugger was splattered with white marks that had bleached the black textured surface. This was due to the brake fluid not being cleaned up around the rear fluid reservoir - typical. Obviously i complained and they replaced it without question but this really should be basic workshop practice.
@@AUTOT3KHCL I've worked at two different dealerships, once as a tech and once as a service writer, before starting my own small repair shop in 2017. Dealerships don't hire enthusiasts anymore.
I don’t mind having a check engine light because there is a problem that needs to be diagnosed and repaired. However, I don’t like being forced to play their game when it comes to resetting lights or indicators. You should be able to do it without having this expensive runaround to deal with.
Number one: My service light has NEVER come on, which I guess I'm okay with, but I'm looking to use TuneECU to cycle the ABS when I bleed the brakes or flush the brake fluid. It'll be nice to have if the dreaded wrench icon does ever decide to appear! Number two: If Triumph put as much effort into quality control as they do trying to price gouge a customer before and after the sale of a new unit, I'd be ecstatic. My 2019 Speed Twin leaked oil like a sieve almost since day one. Needed a new stator gasket, and a new countershaft oil seal. Then the clutch started slipping. Needed stiffer clutch springs, and a new clutch cover gasket. Now at 6,500 miles, I likely have to rebuild the rear caliper, because the pistons don't stay retracted when the brakes are off. What a straight up British pile of shee-it! 😠 Thanks for your video though! LOL
Unfortunately they are made in Thailand and not here in the UK and have been since around 2016/17, which is a shame. Only the design, r&d etc are done in Leicestershire but some manufacturing is coming back home.
The reason you got an error is because you probably haven't set the date on the bike dash. Use the Display Settings/Date, then the service date reset will apply. This is because the date defaults back to 1-1-2000 when the battery is disconnected, and the dash rejects the requested new service date because it's about 23 years in the future! Without doing this you will usually find the wrench icon remains lit, even though the distance service limit has been set.
Thanks for the tip about the battery. I installed a USB charger one afternoon, and changed the exhaust the next day. Bingo, service icon on dash. I obviously thought there was an issue with the exhaust, but, no, it was the date change. You saved me some grief, Cheers!
Update: the guy who owns the rights to the app is now charging 25 euros ( $26.50) to register the app . Or you can't use it . PERIOD. This sucks . He's now also only registering you for 1 year and so every year it's another fee.
My dealer only charges $30 (USD) to reset the service light. If I had known about all this bullshit I probably wouldn't have bought this bike. Live and learn.
I've done it last year, just like you did in your video. However, I have tried to do it again but it is not working. It connects to Tune ECU, I've got the same annoying message at the end, but in my case the service light is still there. Not sure what happened.
I need the link! I did the stator cover gasket and oil change on my '01 TT600. I ended up unplugging the stator and I believe it was the crank sensor. Now I have the CEL on and it likes to just crank and crank when it starts. After it starts the light goes away
Gotta love that obd port I wonder what else you can do I know on the harley I can clear codes through the hand controls but now I can hook my snap on scanner to it just lacking the 600 dollar cable lol,so my snappy guy says there's a little shop that has the cable I call he says sure I have come up and you can teach me how to use it lmao I try to buy it nope but I can use it if I teach him how to use it wtf man 6 bones for a cable but it is what it is,I'm in love with power vision retune and go have fun man ride as much as possible
That price doesnt surprise me being snap on haha. Have you checked if matco or mac or even otc carries the cable? I wonder if you could make one... I was looking into making a cable for the Yamaha, and it could be done for less then $100 just had to order the connectors and terminals and do it yourself
@@AUTOT3KHCL my thought exactly,I think snap on has a deal with harley as there stuff is really getting hard to mess with and I'm just trying to change my oil pressure to read instead of saying ok,I just dont trust the ok,dealer I bought the bike from said no,other dealership said bring it in during the week when we are slow and they will hook harley computer for free I just want to see if I can get into that area of the bike myself, there is now a harley addition on my scanner that came.with the update to the scanner so we will see
Just bought a street twin a couple of a days ago. I love the bike but would never have bought had I been aware of this. Ive never taken bike to the shop, always did everything myself. This is the same BS that John Deere does.
I brought this up at the dealership Saturday as I’m thinking of getting this bike and I do my own oil and they showed me how to do the reset on the dashboard so I’m wondering if this is new feature/update or have you check your settings on your dash? Love your vids thanks
Glad you had success with Tune ECU because it didn't work for me. I tried to reset the service wrench on my 2019 Triumph Tiger 1200 and Tune ECU would not recognize my OBDII bluetooth connector. Got a refund for the program. POS
The cheapy bluetooth scanner/readers don't play nice with 2019 and up Triumphs. Its hit or miss depending on the dongle. If you do ALL your own maintenance like I prefer to do, the OBDlink MX+ is by far the best unit on the market.
The first service cost at triumph in Pittsburgh at Pitt Cycles is $261.75, to basically reset the light and change oil. Supposedly they go over the bike too to check everything which I doubt it takes them more than 5 minutes, what a rip off! Also they recommend castrol in all their bikes, I have cases of redline oil which is far superior in every aspect, will that be ok?
Can you pair keys? Lol paid 192$ for two keys not including gas because my nearest dealer is 2.5hrs away! Low and behold they did not tell me to bring the motorcycle to pair the keys (Marry them) so I drove back loaded up the moto get there and dealer was going to charge me another 125$ to Marry them. I took my keys and told them to f off. Wish I did more research would've saved me over 300$. Great motorcycles terrible service prices, OEM parts... Oh brother I'll sell this bike if this works.
Will this obd ii scanner work for Triumph Street Triple 675 .. 2014 model ? Can u provide me details from where did u purchase it ? If it is available there .. my brother is coming these days.. and he's resides nearby u..
would this work on a Triumph rocket 3 gt from 2021 do you think? factory warrenty is over anyway so no point for me to keep bringing it to a dealer when im a mechanic and know what i am doing. the OBD2 scanner i have at work does not speak triumph :D
I had a 1200 Tiger, 2019. I reset the service light in the settings on the TFT screen... just reset the miles or date. What year is yours? This is in the U.K. if this makes a difference?
My Scrambler 1200xc has just over 3000 miles and the service indicator came on. The manual says 600 miles, then 10,000 miles. There’s another 7000 miles to go, so I don’t understand why it’s asking for service. Do you?
Hi, What version did you say to buy from Amazon, I have bought the TUNE ECU app and 2 different ELM327 scanners from Amazon and neither of them pair to my phone, what am I doing wrong ???
Hey . Many Amazon sellers are knockoffs and you'll have terrible luck getting them to work. There are some other scanners that are compatible. Reach out to the guy who sells the ecu tune for suggestions. Also, you do need a Samsung phone for the app to work.
that is just a service alarm what is you have stuck injectors . or open faults . you fixed the issues and now you would like to clear the alarms.. not just reset the service light ?
Tried to download the Tune ECU app today.....could not find it....any ideas guys. Seen one called Car Scanner.....wonder if that any good for working on modern Triumphs...mine is a 2020 T1oo Bonnie.
Got one of those OBD11 reader today looks the same as yours.....first of all tried it on our car....worked first time along with Car Scanner app. But when I plugged the reader into my bike OBD read socket it would not hook up...may android phone could not connect.....the bike is a watercooled T100 Bonnie 2020. My other self contained code reader wont work on my bonnie either. I can only think Triumph have set the sys to stop us using our on code readers....any ideas. P.S. seems I need a blue tooth OBD2 reader....got one....hooks up to my 2020T100 fine.
Ok I bought 2018 1200 xca rode it home 160 miles didnt ride it just started service do came on started looking the date was wrong reset to correct date now it says I have 9000 some odd miles till next service havnt even done the first 500 on it yet does anyone know what might of happened oh yea they didnt even tell me you could turn the fob off
Hi bro I have the same issue I got the obd2 reader and tuneecu app along with license registration done My issue is when I select reset service light and select run it keep running and I don't see the next window where it says select interval
Hey man! Quick question, if you're still on this thread... I found the OBD2 you've got in the video and it's actually 14€ over here (so great!). Only thing is: Tune ECU says that for my Scrambler only the OBDLink MX+ works. Plus the ieGeek OBD2 apparently specifies that it will work for vehicles from 1996 to 2016. My Scrambler is from 2019. Here's my question: What year is your Tiger? Thanks in advance!
it depends on your Bike and what you want to do I have a 2010 street triple and obdlink did show my some info and connected with the bike but I couldn't change or do anything because mine is older I needed to get an usb cable to connect and change if you check out tuneecu's website you can look up your exact bike and what equipment you need to work with yours I don't understand why it should matter but it does.
I was ready to buy a 2024 Speedmaster until I found out that Triumph won't let us reset our own maintenance light meaning we need to give a tech 60 bucks to do it. They won't get my money for that kind of grift.
I am having issues with this on my 2017 tiger explorer, I am using a G6 phone and I bought the app (Tune ECU) and I'm using the same OBD2 reader that you seem to be using in this video. When I plug it in I can see the OBD2 on my Bluetooth but It never seems to "connect" it just hangs out in the "paired" section. When I use tune ECU it keeps saying it that its not connecting and suggests to turn on and off the ignition. Any suggestions ?
My first obd reader did that. Connected but never actually connected... just showed up in the pair list. Chances are you need to try another one. I ended up ordering 4 in total, 2 worked. Try it on a car first... confirm that it doesnt work properly at all
Hey mate Do you have a product or item number for your obd I bought two the same as yours already with no connect success Be keen to get the one that works Cheers
