This happened to my ML63 too, I fixed it a couple of times by what you did but then eventually it just crapped out on me. The dealership was able to pull codes and see that my shift lever needed replacing, about $500-600
ML63 (w166) and Jeep SRT (WK2) share same platform so wheelbase is the same , I liked the size etc of the Jeep and felt very similar once I drove ML . So far I like just about everything with the ML except the running boards . I’m taking em off asap and putting rocker moulding on , tinting front windows and getting a tune for now . I respect the BMW X5M and will get one for my wife once she’s tired of her own Jeep she has .
