Not sure how far you got but i i got more than halfway and i may give it a rest. Camera angels and tank controls i kinda got used to. My issues were limited saves with ink ribbons and how convoluted some if these puzzles become. I do pretty well with most of these puzzles, but they start introducing stuff halfway in and im thinking "How is anyone going to make that connection?!?" Half the people that play need to find guides to help them.

As someone who played this remake on PS4 with PS+ with no nostalgia at all, I can say it's a fine game. Of course it's not for everyone but, at least for me, it is more of a puzzle game than anything else. I did have to use a guide multiple times.

As a zoomer who first played the game back in 2015, I have thoughts. Honestly, the only fair criticism here is not being able to drop items. I like the item management aspect but I do think it's something that should be able to be turned on. The fixed camera angle is an intentional design choce that is obviously meant to mirror films and make the game more cinematic. I would argue it also creates tension since you can't peek around every corner like you can with an over-the-shoulder camera. The zombies being annoying bullet sponges is also another intentional choice. Here's something crazy - you're not supposed to kill every zombie you see. A major part of the game is deciding which zombies are worth wasting ammo (and also the lighter to burn the corpses) on. I know that modern shooters have conditioned people's brains to shoot first and think later, but this isn't how you play this game. Most zombies can be lunge-baited which allows you to get past them without wasting resources. Some areas of the map you're better off avoiding altogether. You need to remember - this is a classic survival-horror game. It is not about gunning down dozens of enemies. If you went into the game expecting that experience, that's not the game's fault. As for it being 'boring,' this is the most superficial and lazy ass take ever. I hate this mentality of using single adjectives and calling it criticism. By boring, I can only infer you mean slow-paced, and if you don't like slow paced games, that's perfectly fine! But unless you were to argue that slow pacing is inherently bad in video games, it's not a fair reason to label something as shit. As a final note, basically all of Capcom's games are made with replayability in mind, ESPECIALLY the Resident Evil games. I haven't played a single one I didn't enjoy more on the second playthrough. Learning the games - their maps, their mechanics - is part of the experience. Also, if you're new to these types of games, you have to actually give them a fair try and be a bit patient (playing 5% of the game doesn't count). What you're doing feels to me like someone watching a black & white movie for the first time and complaining it's not in colour. Basically, you're refusing to see the good that is there because it's outside your comfort zone.

Finally it’s nice to hear someone else, who finally gets it. Now I honestly say I don’t like RE1 either, probably do like it more than Steve, but on the other hand I just always felt the game was extremely overrated. Yes RE1 does have a good story and of course good characters, but the game is very boring, somewhat limited ammo, then this whole Lisa Trevor nonsense. Lisa was what I called a sympathy villain, meaning she looks like this ugly, horrendous looking monster, that we are supposed to fear, no but instead they made her to be a villain, that you cry and feel sorry for. Personally that’s not what I want out of a survival horror game. I want my villain in this type of game to be terrifying, scary, and vicious. Frankly I never ever get bored playing RE5, RE4, or RE6.

As some one who didn't play the original when it came out and got introduced to the series via Resident evil 4, I kinda agree with you. I have started it 8 times. While I enjoy it a fair bit. It just feels too tedious sometimes. Its not the camera or the controls for me. Its the fact, that every door needs to load and you can't drop items so you have to back track just to get items when you NEED them. I guess its one of those game where you REALLY have to be in the mood for it.

Honestly I agree. I love the RE2 Remake and even the 3 Remake, 4 as well plus I’ve beaten 7 and 8 on their hardest difficulties. I like a challenge But man, there’s a reason games don’t do tank controls and fixed camera nearly as much anymore. I’m fighting the shitty controls and angles more than I am the T-Virus. If the camera wasn’t stuck in the 90s and was over the shoulder then I’d give the game another try and might even enjoy it The MGS games did fixed cameras right, I have no issue with them and even prefer fixed camera in MGS 3 as opposed to it following me. This games fixed camera is just poorly designed

I thought a little less than half of the first game was alright but by the second half I was already cheating my way through with walkthroughs and that. It was stupid. I finished the other resident evil games on my own and I had very little help with them. This one not so much. Finished with Jill but I ain't going back to play Chris. No way! Fun fact though: I did finish Resident Evil 0 a few months ago. It was a hard meh for me.

Anyone who says this game is good is either lying to themselves, played it when they were a kid, or believes they have infinite time to waste on pointless nonsense. Even if you like the game, what you like about it is the fact that it's so mind numbingly boring while also being unfair that you eventually develop a sort of Stockholm syndrome with it and start to learn all of its quirks in a way you start to feel is endearing.

As a person who is new to the series I honestly didn't enjoy the PS1 Resident Evil games
