You're check up is due Sir. The nurse will be here shortly. *Thundering footsteps can be heard in the hallways* You can just make out one word "STARS.."
For me this is the best beginning of any movie in the history. It just sets up the whole atmosphere so right with visuals and music. And putting together Clint Mansell, Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson to score the film. I mean c'mon... Zimmer is a genius when it comes to Sci-Fi, but for horror movies it doesn't get better than this.
david johnsen not that I know of which is probably why this scene stands out so well in my mind. I get so pumped when the title appears on screen. haha
david johnsen this is definitely my favorite out of the series. I was disappointed with the later movies that came out. but that's just me. Talking about this makes me want to pick up the first one and watch it again. haha
NOT GOING TO THROW ANYTHING IN A BIO HAZARD ENVIRONMENT. THEY ARE HIGHLY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS THAT HANDLE EVERYTHING LIKE IT CLD KILL THEM... cuz IT CAN... KILL THEM. the ending of season one of TWD... where the CDC in hotlanta has self destruct thing that wud set the AIR ON FIRE when lost power to the place so BURN EVERYTHING IN THERE!!!
This movie definitely had something over the sequels. That being atmosphere, creepy settings, great music, memorable characters with distinct personalities, great practical effects, great setting, awesome villain (the red queen) and an overall satisfying experience. Even this intro is better than the others. Setting up the power of the umbrella corporation and the fear it's meant to instill, with cool effects and a cool logo appearance and a great pull in from a dark void into the world of Resident Evil. Sorry, this movie was so much better than the rest (:
Guess RE: Afterlife made no difference as they used James Cameron’s Fusion Camera to give not just a big HD experience, but to make it feel more immersive.
This and the ending shot which is essentially, the same shot adding a reverse angle, steady cam, crane pullout are the best in the movie. Nice nods to Day of the Dead 1985
I remember seeing this in theaters when I was seven. I was entranced by the soundtrack, impressive narration, and overall opening presentation. Hard to relive that experience.
I was always fascinated with this intro. Certainly not the best, but it has that "je ne sais quoi" that forever sold me on for the whole ride. Looking back, I can't believe that 12 years have passed since this movie was released. Even to this day, it is one of my top 10 favorite intros ever. Maybe it is that voice, maybe the music, maybe the visual aspect; regardless, a big kudos for the ones who are responsible for it. They did a damn fine job.
The movies almost 20 now...makes a man feel old, considering this came out when I was like 13. Definitely was one of the movies that I was dying to see back in the day lol
The further the movie franchise progress the less realistic it was. 1 & 2 was perfect because it was the most realistic and that made it more scary. Extinction was nice after that it was terrible.
+Satan Don't get me wrong it's nice to have more films because what resident evil wouldn't want more. All I hoped was for it to be more realistic because the great thing about 1 and 2 were it was scary.
+Teera Xo I don't know, I really like the last movie, even with its massive flaws. And I LOVED all the connections the fourth movie had with the games. I mean, even some tiny details, like in RE3 (movie) where it tells you how the Dr. became the Tyrant and the process was the same as with what a file told us in the games.
Where closer than that. Also we had absolutely nothing to do with this outbreak. It originated in bats. We are a bio safety research facility. Have a happy happy quarantine day. And remember we are always here to help and service the public in anyway we can. Thank you.
Fun fact for anyone who wants to know, the voiceover describing The Umbrella Corporation here is actually done by Jason Isaacs, who also cameos in the end as the scientist who orders the reopening of The Hive, with a hint that he was supposed to be Dr. William Birkin. Made me extremely excited at the prospect of such a talented veteran actor taking the reins as one of the game's major characters turned monsters, but sadly completely tossed the opportunity away by the time Apocalypse rolled out. Makes me hope that if the talks of rebooting the series and making them closer to the games are true, they'll remember him and offer him the role.
This one scene alone along with the ending scene is better than ALL of the crappy Resident Evil movies produced by Paul W.S Anderson. Im glad the series is getting rebooted especially by the right people. The only credit I will give the first movie is the score. The OST was the only good thing about this movie.
At least this movie had a horror theme and it was quite creepy. After this one he got to happy with it and the movies started going downhill. So this is the only GOOD movie Anderson did not the greatest but he did good.
First film was okay, had some great moments. The only good thing about Resident Evil 2 was The End of the Heartache by Killswitch Engage during the credits. Part three felt like they were going somewhere, but part four onward they just shat the bed and series was just Paul showing off his hot wife.
I agree, this is the only movie opening I've put on my favorites list. The score is perfect for this movie. The movies after this were turned into blockbuster pulp, like transformers. I'm excited to learn there's a reboot in the works.
A little fun fact the reason why these movies didn't follow the games was because capcom supposedly requested they have an original storyline out of fear of people not playing the games. However this movie as a stand-alone film, is technically considered a prequel to the games, but the demand for sequels ended up changing its continuty to them
@@t_man7259was this ever confirmed? Cause it seems believable that Capcom would want it to be it's own continuity rather than set in the game universe. Especially since the games have there own mass of problems as well, which is probably why the Remake timeline is a thing now.
@randomenclavefanboy3415 im not sure exactly. I just saw some reviews on youtube that mentioned the movie was originally gonna be tied more to the games when Geroge A Romero was on gonna direct it.but supposedly, this movie was gonna be stand-alone movie called resident evil ground zero. Released as a lose prequel to the game's itself, even with the changed storyline. However, Paul Anderson dropped the sub title because of 9_11
Man I know it wasn't perfect but holy fuck was this first movie fucking amazing in it's own rights. The attention to framing and structure and feeling. If you're into cinematography then you'll understand the overwhelming importance to "Andromeda Strain" that it pays homage to in so many designs and framings. This first film was really dope and actually mildly scary because it wasnt trying to be a blockbuster action film. Its shared pace with the older games where it was exciting yet really un-fucking-settling. You nor anyone was ever in control of the situation. No one was a badass bc they were untouchable. You didn't know what was coming and barely made it out where you saw every one else suffer horrible fucking deaths and it gave you a minor moment of feeling like a badass for just scraping by alive. I truly wish the rest of the films followed suit in this production style as well as the games. Give me back scary, basic, just try to survive zombies Resident Evil - remakes are okay but don't really count. I wanna feel scared again. I was raised on horror and after getting the shit scared out of me from the first game I didnt think this movie would spook me. This first scene really through that under the bus lol
I watched this movie when i was 18 and it changed my attitude to the world and it became my all time favourite movie!!! Plus, Marilyn Manson is super genuis, how he can come up with such a tune like tha for the intro. Masterpiece!
Agreed, the first 3 movies had an overarching plot with kind of a unique premise, then it went to shit, but it was good for a while lol (: if it wasn't called resident evil, people would probably like this movie and the next two better.
To me this is the best zombie movie ever, Resident Evil for life🙌, but this intro I will never forgot so creep and chilling, like if you had no knowledge of this movie you would never guess its about zombies.
I’ll never forget this movie. I was ten and my big brother 16-17 age group and all his friends got together to watch this and we made the house dark and parents were gone and he let me stay and watch with them. I was scared as fuck but it was so much fun haha
The best intro in movie history and the most awesome heist scene since Dennis swiped all the Dinosaur embryos in Jurassic Park. Both thieves caused the main plot of their movies to unfold by the way. I miss competent writing.
I sat here and tried to disagree with you, but couldn't find a good reason why you're wrong. I just really didn't like the saw movies. I mean psychological torture is a good premise though, lots you can do with it, lots of ways to take it... But I like zombies a lot better... :P that's a fun game of survival every time... and in the R.E. series we watch humanity all but die out, coming real close to species annihilation. Not to mention epic directed mutations and telekinesis and clones and action the music and Mila Jovovich who I honestly probably can't get enough of. R.E. wins out for me easily.
I appreciate the contrast between when Spence delicately handles the samples, and finally slams one against a table. Simple but effective staging, because with a simple gesture, he will condemn an entire planet. Mixed in with the way it's all done, the intro voiceover, the inconic music, the zoom in, like a prep for something. This single intro smashes everything that will be done next with this franchise, forever.
"Unbeknown even to its own employees, it's massive profits are driven by: Military Technology, Genetic Experimentation and Viral Weaponry" I just love that line Wow
This intro song really is such a great song! literally listening to it on repeat. It reminds me of how creepy this movie is at times, much better movie then the others 👏🏻 Manson did a great job with this song!
Jan Herfs The Red Queen killed the employees via poisonous gas after the lockdown. The T-virus probably reanimated the dead bodies of the dogs in the cages as shown in the movie. Think about it. All of the employees had bite marks and signs of eaten flesh, so dogs ate the dead bodies and the virus slowly spread.
the virus is airborne, the bite marks are probably due to them eating each other. the guy who threw the vial was a high rank employee of umbrella, he destroyed the facility and stole the research. there are factions within umbrella who fight each other over control and power.
Jan Herfs That's especially true of a facility that operates with deadly pathogens, typically when working with airborne viruses it's done so in a sealed environment; the people are in suits with an oxygen supply, fed through external tubes directly into the suit, and the air in the environment itself is fed through a furnace ,for lack of a better word, where it is heated to adequate levels for killing any viruses; and then it's cooled down before being fed back into the rest of the environment.
This intro hooked me back in 2002 and i'm still along for the RE movie series ride, it was awesome seeing this opening in the theater for the first time
I remember I bought this movie out of impulse from a deli when it first came out I didn't even know what resident evil was I have loved and seen every movie since
It's make you feel good when you know you're not alone on how you feel about this intro, I remember going to see in theaters and the intro gave me goosebumps because it's so captivating. After the movie, I would talk to friends about it on the way home, they didn't seem to care for it.
Great conversion from video game to a movie.Mila Jovovic was so hot back then and since her acting in other films was not so very good, her role as an action hero was great.
one of the best intros i have seen, this sums up the very essence of the corrupt, decadent and evil malignant nature of the usa military industrial complex to a T.
