I don't know if this is mentioned anywhere in the run (2 hours left to go), but I believe this was supposed to have a Nemesis mechanic. When Lucia is around, you can see an icon on the bottom right that she detects the BOW nearby. Also, I think this game got 2 official remakes. Look over the ideas of Revelations 1-2, and tell me they didn't use a lot of the same ideas. Boat, blob monsters, Barry getting a new kid, a possible spy being sent home, etc. Just saying, I think it was retconned into those two.

There's something so charming about game boy color games. Maybe it's just the nostalgia.. but i love it regardless

I really appreciated this run, despite the pain for all involved. I owned Gaiden when it came out. As a little kid, I remember this game being my first experience in feeling betrayed by a game franchise. Watching this was like watching a fever dream I had forgotten. I've got to say this was actually really entertaining. Especially when you were raging over ammo and the backseaters not being there when you need them! "It's been 3 hours and no one told me you could move the camera, but ten minutes in to any other game pffflflfflflp"

This would honestly make a pretty good remake. Standard RE story, familiar characters, nice setting

Rewatching this two years later. I find it hilarious that a decent strat in this game is to have Leon get actively eaten while struggling to stab zombies while Barry stands idly by, rifle hanging by his side. Barry: "Sorry Leon, we have a lot of herbs and need to conserve ammunition. You did say you were getting better with the knife."

Wish I was there for the stream, used to play this everyday and could have told you about the scrolling. You can also dodge zombies easily by luring them by aiming in their general direction. Also, using the knife during the beginning of the game is best as almost every zombie barely does damage and you get a ton of herbs.

I love how frustrated he got playing this game. Reminds me of back when I emulated this in the early 2000s.

The definitive RE experience is arrived. I was waiting this moment in this channel for so long,I remember finishing it and honestly liking it lol maybe because of my age or because it was an interesting GBC game.

i think the reason the sprite looks like chris is: the color limitations of gbc sprites. they could only have i think 4 colors, minus one that is black / transparent. the reason barry looks diffrent in the menus is, i think they did those as background tiles instead of sprites, so every tile could have the 4 (minus one) color. also the whole background is black so they could have used the spare transparent pixel to have the red one.

I remember playing this back then like "there's a resident evil on Gameboy? I wanna try". Then got to a point where the extinguisher was needed. Used it and the game glitched out and the fire was still there but no more extinguisher. Never got to finish it myself

Since watching Revelations 2, I couldn't help but think how the endings were similar. Adoptions and those twists at the end.

Seeing this pop up in my feed made me so happy.

I actually like this game. I have good memories of my brother and I playing it and by the end of the game the ROM was corrupted, we had find another one and start again (the emulator save of the old ROM didn't worked with the new one). As for RE boats games, I like this better than Dead Aim. The game had some potential, but the platform this was made for hindered it. haha It's one of my guilty pleasures. Once you know how to manipulate ai on enemies it becomes much easier. Some useful tips: Aiming any weapon makes the enemies chase barry until you stop aiming While on battle, you can move the camera to the sides, so you can center the position of an enemy that is on the left or right side Killing enemies instantly without wasting ammo ( have equipped the gas launcher, activate the escape button, then try to escape and all enemies will die, you dont need to press the button in the red icon, just spam the button in any part of the yellow bar anywhere, so you can do it multiple times in the same battle

Man, I remember when I was about 16 (in 2006), my best friend got his first job and wanted to get me a game, any game. I had just beaten the REmake and saw a used copy of Gaiden at Gamestop. I was so excited to have a resident evil for my game boy. He got it for me. I didn't have the hear to tell him I didn't make it further than ten minutes in. Still have it though. Somewhere. ... Forgotten.

Well to be honest this game wasnt played by much people compare to the main titles, so is kinda hard to tell what to do or even backseat lol

Also with RE4 remake out by this time, even though he trains with Krauser later on it might have been Leon's time on the Starlite that eventually led to him besting Krauser LOL

Here’s my resident evil game boy game. Mostly text based, reading documents, solving puzzles and putting items together. Very very few enemies bc of hardware limitations. Make it all narrative and intellectual puzzle shit. With stalker/nemesis type huge enemies to put a time limit on how long you can stay in a room to figure out its puzzle. But mostly you don’t fight at all you just run bc again, hardware limitations.

The music is fine for many other games, but it does not suit a resident evil or any horror game for that matter. It sucks all the tension away from the game and makes me want to dance with neon glow sticks and back-lit sunglasses lol. So unsuitable for the franchise imo.

Love you bawk! Never saw this game but I know its reputation, lol. I’m watching/listening with headphones at work. Legit felt like a microscopic noise dog was humping my eardrum. Not great at early mornings, so if that doesn’t make sense blame my brain. Cant wait for what you have next!

So is the last boss truly unbeatable with just the knife? I absolutely believe Bawk, but I noticed something and had to try the mechanic for myself. First off, good lord this game is awful to play, I couldn't stand it for more than like 10 minutes before I closed it. But second, I was curious why Bawk was only firing once when the cursor went past the "sweet spot" but not immediately again on the return trip. Well, you sort of can, sort of can't. The yellow square has a red center when your attack is ready again, and is just an empty yellow square when your attack is on cooldown. Seems to maybe be different for different weapons? Only tried it with the pistol and knife. With the knife though I was definitely able to land a hit and then another on the return trip (as long as the attack area wasn't at the very edge, in which case I sort of had to reverse it) which should in theory deal double the damage as long as there's no weird damage falloff or anything. Would this make the final boss killable with the knife or is that still nowhere near enough? I mean, even doing this regular zombies took quite a while to go down, so I doubt I've found anything that people who actually play this game to completion haven't, I just figured most people playing it probably don't actually give a shit because I mean come on, it's RE Gaiden. Damn good sprite animation though!
