Thank you so much for all your help and learning how to use different techniques. I tried the mod podge and yes it worked, but then i found that even with a dark rock i can use Rust-Oleum crystal clear enamel and I don't have to apply any paint, it hides the look of the sanded bottom and allows the natural look shine through, have you tried it? I❤ it!

HI Rachel , Yvonne from down under - I've tried all the ways over the yrs for applying the resin and recently stumbled upon 4 long screws in a flat piece of balsa wood ( i'm going to change mine though to a piece of pallet wood ) a lot less flimsy . Have all 4 screws facing upwards and place rock gently on tips of screws after about 1/2 hr with glove on just wipe the underside to smooth any lumps from resin getting ready to drip , works great all you get is 4 tiny pin holes / marks ? ad the rest is perfect , hardly any waste like on those flexi mats which I bought and tried ( I am going to be using mine as drip trays , as the flat section is ugly and wasteful I think , anyway ) so give it a try . You can place the screws to balance small to large rocks and just use when needed. After over 16 + yrs of painting rocks it's the best way i've found to resin with minimal waste and a tidy result. All the best , Yvonne .

Same idea, different materials: I created a drying tripod by pushing thumbtacks through a lid (like a can of pringles or whatever.). The rock rests on the upturned tips of tacks. Also, if doing several use the lid of the box like a tray and place the bottom over the rocks like a garage.

Thank you for this tutorial. So helpful. I think I am almost ready to start using the $50 package of resin that has been sitting on my counter for the last several months. Sorry for your cold snowy weather. Right now it is 6 degrees and raining here on the north coast of BC. Although, some years we could have 8' of snow by now, not this year so far. I am sure it is coming :-). BTW, I love your little giggle.

I knew I'd find my answers from Rachel's Rocks! Both what to put my wet resin rocks in to dry and what to do about extra on the bottom. (I tried using a silicone baking mat but the resin pulled the silicone off of the mat) And I really must use less resin as well. :) Love it!

Hi Rachel , thank you for the tutorial. But what are your thoughts about not even resining the bottoms? Maybe just use a good sealer and just resin the tops?
@m.ilievs6627
@m.ilievs6627 2 года назад
Hi Barbara have you tried that? I'm curious if a combo of resin on top...let it dry & then mod podge gloss on the bottom would be effective & eliminate the need for dremel sanding
@barbaragolden3620
@barbaragolden3620 2 года назад
@@m.ilievs6627 Hi, yes I did try it and it worked ok since nobody really sees the bottom anyway. But, what worked better (and looked a little better, too), was to just apply a very thin coat of resin on the bottom of the stone and let it dry completely (at least a day)Then resin the top. No dremel needed! It's a good idea to just mix a small amount of resin and do a few bottoms at time to cut down on waste (because a little goes such a long way), Hope this helps. Happy painting😊

Do you then re-seal that bottom with a better protectant than the Modge Podge?
@rachelsrockscanada
@rachelsrockscanada 5 лет назад
For indoor stones I dont.but for outdoor you can spray Krylon acrylic spray on the bottom, try not to spray too much or it will run to the front of your stone amd wreck the resin. and it lasts well outdoors here in Canada.
