After you have laid down the tape, and before you put on the coaster ring, can you put the aluminum foil on the tape, and the coaster ring on top of the aluminum foil? Can you use real sand that is clean?
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Hello Becky! Yes you can start this project by putting the foil down. To get the best seal I would apply the Rings to your Resin Backer Film first, then insert the foil, which will need to be cut just a bit smaller than the inside of the ring. Then go ahead and make your coasters. If you have time you may want to pour a very thin layer of clear resin over the foil to seal it in, if not just be careful as you add your elements that the seal of the ring to the Resin Backer Film stays secure. Yes, you can use clean sand instead of or along with the Glow In The Dark Additive, it works well, but remember that the foil won't show through sand, so be careful about how much sand you add. Let me know how your coasters/ornaments turn out :) - Fran

Hello! I’ve been binge watching many of you videos as I shopped your site. Just as I started to check out , put in my payment info(shopping on phone), I decided I needed to add more stuff to my order because of new video 😁I was watching (on my tv). Unfortunately, my phone immediately started acting very weird. It slowed down considerably in everything I tried to do. I thought it might have just been your site, but everything I did on it was affected. The battery drain very quickly after that and it got very hot. Is there any chance your site has been hacked? BTW, I can’t seem to stop watching your videos! Each video is so entertaining and I’m so excited to start doing my own projects!!

What about the "fading" of the alcohol inks? After say 3 yrs?
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Hello Brandt! Great question, I have found that alcohol inks can fade to some extent, but if you have a good concentration they do hold color for quite some time. Also, the colorfastness varies from color to color and brand to brand. And of course sun exposure will cause them to fade faster. Another factor is the technique you use; mixing into resin vs. pouring between layers, etc. I have some bangle bracelets I made 2-3 years ago using the drip technique on Clear Photo Film, and they are still nice and bright, here's the tutorial for that technique in case you're interested: www.little-windows.com/blogs/project-center/alcohol-ink-drip-effects-in-resin I hope that's helpful :) - Fran

Hello Carla! There are so many projects in this video - from casting in molds to layering in bezels to working in rings, some could possibly be done with UV resins, but not the ripple effect you see when I press the charms in the surface. I'm also not sure if the layering would work in terms of material bond. If you make some, I'd love to hear how your projects turn out :) fran@little-windows.com

In designs such as this - use transparent resin dye instead of alcohol ink, no fading
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Hello ClassyGeek, thanks for your feedback! Some alcohol inks do fade over time, but many "transparent" resin dyes aren't really transparent, they are more translucent, which dulls the glow-in-the-dark effect behind all the inks in these particular projects. I like the inks I'm using, although I do overload in the under layers to further preserve color. Do you have a particular brand and type of resin dye you'd recommend? I'm always eager to learn and share successful tips :) Fran@little-windows.com

What is the temperature rating for this resin (coasters)?
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Год назад
Hello Randy! If you're asking about the temperature durability for cured pieces, this can vary a bit based on thickness and additives, but for Brilliant Resin alone it's approx. 200F Most epoxy resins - particularly ones with a 1:1 mix ratio - will soften when exposed to heat, which can cause dents and rings in your castings. Brilliant Resin is the safest epoxy you'll find. It has a 2:1 mix ratio, and resists softening with heat. I hope that's of help :) - Fran@little-windows.com

Do you use a face mask for the resin?
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin Месяц назад
Hello Sara! I don't, but I understand and appreciate your concern. I use Brilliant Resin, the safest epoxy you'll find. There is safety guidance on the bottles and in all of the maker guides, and I'm typically mixing small batches (1-2 TBSP), to make small projects, I cover them with dust covers, and have great ventilation in my space. Resins are sensitizers, meaning the more you're exposed, the more likely you may be to experience irritation. You'll need to consider situational use of both gloves and vapor masks/respirators, depending on the size of your project and your frequency of use. This is especially important if you're using a resin that contains more harmful chemicals, if you're working in a space that doesn't have good air flow, and/or if you're working on larger projects (canvases, tumblers, large castings, etc), making multiple projects simultaneously, mixing large batches, or not using dust covers. If you have chemical sensitivities, or plan to use a lot of resin, you'll certainly want protective gear. If you have any other questions email fran@little-windows.com and I'll be happy to help. Keep creating :) - Fran

These are beautiful. Have you tried to do an ocean effect in a 3d mold like a trinket dish? I really want to do this and was considering maybe doing the design on film, then warming it enough to bend and inserting that into the mold with wet resin. Any ideas? Maybe I should do layers of resin and pouring them before they are set and slightly blending with a toothpick to get the swirls? Also -- I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but your resin backer film never works for me on open bezels. It always leaks. I want it to work so bad and I've tried different things, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

hello. I didn't understand about the border and condensation. Please kindly explain.
@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin 2 года назад
Hello Marcela! Sorry for any confusion, I was talking about the coaster ring project. When you set a glass on your coaster, you don't want any condensation from the glass to run off your coaster onto your table, so if you fill it so there is just a bit of the outer ring sticking up above the center, it'll catch anything and do a good job. Resin coasters that are totally flat, or rounded on the edges do a poor job with cold beverages. Does this make sense? Thanks for asking :) fran@little-windows.com

@LittleWindowsResin
@LittleWindowsResin 2 года назад
Hello Adriann! You can add a bit of white colorant without mixing into your Brilliant Resin, but only for projects where the white won't be exposed in the top layer. If it's a bit thick it won't ever set and you may get a soft spot in the white area. So if you're going to use it in this way, use it sparingly, and be sure it's got at least a thin layer of clear resin over top to protect your pieces. I can't wait to see what you make, send pics :) - Fran@little-windows.com

Hi, I've never ever been able to dome with Little Windows - the surface always has flaws. I can mix it for 5 solid minutes being really thorough, and the surface will still mess up. Is there something else I need to do, do you think? If I can figure out how to dome with Little Windows it will be the only resin I need to use for EVERYTHING. Thank you!
@SuchAClassicGirl-dx2ip
@SuchAClassicGirl-dx2ip 2 года назад
First off probably don’t mix it for that long. What kind of flaws are you experiencing? Make sure you let the mixed resin rest about 5 minutes. Best results I have with doming is to make sure you’re not pouring too much..pour in the middle of the piece and let the resin “expand” for a minute or 2 to see if your need more. Use a toothpick to pull it to meet the edges/sides of your piece. If there are bubbles, use a heat gun or torch lighter to pop. If there isn’t enough resin to get a nice even dome, add a little more. Most flaws I get are from not enough resin and spots I didn’t pull it to meet the sides. Of course, cover it
@Munchkinssparkles
@Munchkinssparkles 2 года назад
@@SuchAClassicGirl-dx2ip Hi :) Naw, I just meant 5 minutes as in, I'm not under-mixing it. But it's that the surface of the dome is almost really blemished, and where it's blemished (usually a line surrounded by slight rippling) it's a little rough to the touch. And it gradually worsens over a week or so. It's so weird, and happens pretty much every time.
@SuchAClassicGirl-dx2ip
@SuchAClassicGirl-dx2ip 2 года назад
@@Munchkinssparkles Hhmm. That’s really odd. Ive had the best results doming (and in general) with Little Windows than ANY other resin so something is off. I’m assuming you’ve tried doming a few times but from same 2 bottles of resin/hardener? (Lol just thinking you wouldn’t buy it again if you’d not had good results but 🤷‍♀️) I’m all trying to Bill Nye your resin experience over here! 🤣🤣

Hi Munchkin, so sorry I missed your comment earlier. There are a few potential culprits that can lead to surface issues: These pieces are so pretty, but I see what you mean by the surface finish. There are a few possible culprits here. I'm going overboard since I'm not there with you, but I want you to have success with your creations, so have a look and let me know which you think might be possible: Most Likely Culprit: Incomplete mixing - Every molecule of Part B has to bond with 2 molecules of Part A for the cure to be complete. There may be small swirls of Part A that haven't combined with Part B, that then rise to the top alone as your projects cure. Are you warming up your Part A before you blend it with your Part B? If not, this should help considerably. Follow directions on the bottle label for this. The unblended portion can also be coming from the edges of your mixing cup, so after mixing for the recommended time, pour the mix into a second clean mixing cup for the 5 minute rest period. You can clean and reuse both cups once you've poured your mix, just follow this quick video to clean them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6R7Jq4LCPl0.html Possible Culprit: Moisture in something you're embedding. If even one of your embedments has any moisture left in it, that can cause issues like this. In future make sure whatever you embed has no chance of containing moisture. If needed you can mix a resin batch as small as 6ml Part A + 3ml Part B. Less Likely Culprit: Humidity. If any water in the air settles on your pieces they can show surface issues like these. If you're getting the same issue throughout the year, then I would focus more on the mixing of your resin, following the steps above. I hope this is helpful for you, please let me know how your future creations turn out :) - Fran

How long does that glow-in-the-dark hold it's shining glow?

Hi JayKB, that'll depend on how much you add, and the intensity of your light source, but I've had some glow for a good half-hour after full charge. Based on my experience these truly are the strongest glow additives I've tried. Have a look at this research I did a while back if you're interested. www.little-windows.com/blogs/project-center/glow-in-the-dark-resin-projects?_pos=5&_sid=fe209c3a1&_ss=r Thanks for asking :) fran@little-windows.com

Hi Fran. What an amazing video! Many people are selling special types of ingredients to make the bubbles and waves, I even bought one of them. And, to think I had everything I needed all along. Thank you for all the time you take making these videos. Not only do we learn something new but I really enjoy watching that creative mind of yours at work.

@@LittleWindowsResin hey Fran, I forgot to ask a somewhat corny question, but I guess this will show you just how much I watch every bit of your videos. LOL Where did you get such a big dust cover?
