In this video I talk you through my top tips for starting resin. I am getting a lot of comments and questions lately about resin and in particular, my beginners resin video from June 2019.
One thing to know before starting is that resin is not a cheap hobby. I am lucky enough to have this resin sent to me by Craft Resin. I have purchased resin the past and prices range very much for a 1KG kit.
I have wanted to share with you all for some time my top tips that I have learned on route. I am by no means a professional. I am not a resin advisor I am simply sharing everything I know and have learned so far.
Resin moulds and accessories can be found on my Amazon Storefronts, I am an Amazon Affiliate and earn commission through purchases at no extra cost to you.

temperatures
moulds
best surface
heat tools and their uses
I really hope you find this useful .. xx
I am a full PPE Resin Artist. Please take responsibility for your own safety and wear the appropriate Respirator, gloves and eye protection. Work in a well ventilated area.

I have used most of .. not all products listed on this store front. However I cannot be held responsible for your purchase if the product is not to your satisfaction.
Everything I do in my video is my way of working.
You may choose to work differently and what I show you here is just an example.

Hi Claire, I also love working with Resin. I have however developed an allergy to resin, so I have had to go into it to find out how I can continue to work with Resin. I have my respirator and latex gloves. Guess what, Resin can get through all gloves but nitrile. I have to double glove even with the nitrile gloves. Get Nitrile Gloves and please let your viewers know.

Heyyyy Bernie... thankyou so much for sharing this ... I honestly had no idea Resin could get through Latex ... I only use Nitrile gloves now .. but I did used to wear latex .. xx apparantly it is only a matter of time before people start to react bad to resin .. and once you have a reaction .. its hard not to x I would definitely say . Layer up the arms .. and double glove ... I also wear goggles now too ... xxx

THANK YOU, so much. I'm disabled and have a serious lung problem (and another disability) from 2nd hand smoke. I'm on oxygen 24/7. I've been using a paper mask. I'm stopping until I buy a proper Respirator, and gloves are so important! I live in a HIGH altitude state and it's cold in the winter, so maybe that is why my first Resin mix got so hot and I almost had a mini volcano! I've learned a lot in the last few months. The silicone tools are awesome and help save the environment. I almost got a Resin burn the first time, because I did something wrong and it got HOT fast, even though I had gloves on. I got some on my skin. Beginners MUST KNOW what your teaching. I didn't find many resin "Beginner" tutorials even though I asked other crafters on you tube what I should get first. Don't get lung problems ladies. It's not fun. I'm 63 this summer and I'm tethered to a oxygen machine. (I've never smoked but I was a Porcelain doll maker for yrs and breathed in the dust in the winter. That is all I can think of.) Your LUNGS are your life line. Thank you Claire! Stay Safe and HEALTHY! Blessings~ PS. this is going on my Pinterest page. I have A LOT of followers, over 12,000 on Pinterest..I think that's a lot. I'm not boasting, I'm just saying maybe I can help someone else by putting YOUR video on my site and you'll help them. It takes a village, and helping one another is the key to life~thanks Claire. Sorry, no more NOVELS!

Heyyyy my lovely … I love novels ! haaaaaa don't ever apologise I will always read and reply xx thank you so much ! x I am so sorry to hear about your lung problems I cannot imagine how tough that is :( As a resin user you need to take extra precautions for sure it might impact you way more than others xxx A good respirator is essential .. You can get whole face respirators that circulate air inside .. xx That is a huge amount of followers on Pinterest thank you so so much seriously kind xxx :) xx I am typing on my laptop so I cannot send emojis .. but I would fill this up with hearts if I could xxx I really appreciate how much time you took to comment and a huge thankyou for sharing my videos xx I am proper happy that they have helped you xxx

Shein also has a bunch of really affordable molds. The clear type and the opaque ones. I’ve never had a problem with any of them. I have been using uv resin, and I will be trying epoxy resin soon. Also Temu, I think it’s spelled that way, has a ton of options for resin crafting at great prices.

But, of course, somebody somewhere will find SOMETHING to nit pick at, i can tell you've had your fair share of that, I am BRAND NEW to the epoxy world, i super appreciate your video, you sharing your thoughts and experiences with the rest of us and, MOST importantly, informing us of ALL of the property precautions to take when messing with toxic chemicals like epoxy resin

Heyyyy Talena, thank you so much ! xx I am definitely still finding people point blank refusing to wear a mask and gloves ... It is not about being told what to do (some people are defiant and feel like I am telling them what to do) but it really is as simple as protecting their own lungs ... they refuse ! It makes no sense to me when a respirator is cheaper than the actual resin. I am so happy and appreciate you for listening and actually caring about your own health xxxx

I'm not reading through all of the comments so someone else may have already said this... but the respirator can come with different types of filters, you have to make sure that your filters are for Chemical fumes. And after using wipe it down with 91% Alcohol to clean it. Then store it in an airtight container that is just big enough to fit your respirator in to. If you keep it out in the open it will continue to "clean" the air while you aren't using it & saturate your filters... as soon as you start smelling chemicals while using your respirator your filters are too saturated to protected you and need to be replaced! Filters on a good respirator are replaceable. My father has a great deal of experience working with highly toxic chemicals at work... and he is always checking my respirator for safty due to my being exposed to a trash fire as a teen, my lungs don't function as well as they should due to the damage caused by burning plastics in the trash fire. I can literally passout from lack of Oxygen by walking by a group of smokers standing outside a store on their break smoking cigarettes. 🚬 I know many will have comments about how I should probably not be playing with resins... but I am as safe as I can be! I take care of my PPE & never use any chemicals (even household cleaners) without someone at home with me.

Lots of great tips! As for heating the resin, I use a heated coffee mug coaster. Works like a charm! Don't heat the hardener - that's where the dangerous chemicals are.

@@annabarry1193 I've learned that it is better to have the container in water. I burned the bottoms several silicone cups, having left them on the warmer for 5 minutes. A cup of water hot from the tap or shortly microwaved actually works best. Thank you for asking.

W a mold WAIT AND ALLOW THE BUBBLES SURFACE .. in ur cup b4 pouring .. hit w a quick torch pops the bubbles pour slow in in ur molds and if u see bubbles take a toothpick and pop if they get finicky let them surface pop on and off quick w a lighter or torch as they surface usually the 1st few min For wood resin use ProMarine or MAS

Lots of good advice! I started using resin in October last year. My main issue with it is heat resistance. I've tried several different resins and it's still very hit and miss. I think it's mainly due to environmental conditions in my house. I'm hoping it will improve once the weather warms up - although weather forecast says snow next week 😱 so might not be soon. I haven't tried the GlassCast resins. Do you find them to be heat resistant?

I never see how to clean up, not the way I been making everything sticky. I also end up with my work just stay sticky with holes, I have color on my hands or I mean my gloves
@ClairesCraftyCorner
@ClairesCraftyCorner 3 года назад
Heyyyyy Tiny ... the best way to clean up is to wait until the next day ... I did a video on cleaning your cups and containers.. and cleaning your moulds .... wait 24 hours until it is all cured and use tape. The gloves cannot usually be saved but if you get resin on your skin then wash immediately. Ideally no resin would be going down the drain xxx Hope this helps ❤
@ClairesCraftyCorner
@ClairesCraftyCorner 3 года назад
If your work stays sticky it could be for a few reason. 1. Measurement was not right. 2. Stirring wasn't done thoroughly. 3. Too much colour was added. 4. Temperature of the room was too cold or too hot.

Heyyyy lovely ... I have only done one layering project .. which was the Rae Dunn Inspired fridge magnets .. and honestly I left the resin to fully dry 24 hours before adding the white background x you dont need to though .. you can layer much sooner than that ... I think if you are layering a deep pour ... you risk seeing the layers and you are better off buying a deep pour resin .. like Glass Cast 50 or 30 ? They do a resin suitable for deep pours .. but I feel like with really deep pours cubes or spheres you may need a vacuum pot ? Not sure xx thin layers are fine without xxxx
