Getting back to work on the COE finally! Fabrication is coming again soon - finally! Sorry for all the talking - it might be boring to you but this is where we're at with it. I had to pause working on it for so long due to all of our other projects, but I wanted to catch you all up before we dive back into the building segments!
Thank you all for following along!

In your description you apologize about talking to much...which with your knowledge you should NEVER apologize for talking! The people tuning in should be tuning in to receive your knowledge! I am a huge fan of your content and highly enjoy your detailed explanations. I also noticed you telling your wife to "make sure that camera is focused" Haha. In her defense maybe slow down a little bit and let the camera focus in on the stuff. I am the same way in rushing around when you are in the middle of something haha. Keep up the good content and I am excited to see this COE finished!

I’ve been waiting patiently for years for you to work on this project. It’s my dream project. Totally loved the 57 build from the start. You remind me of my foster dad. He restored a 39 ford de lux sedan to winning concurs competitions from scratch. Learning all the skills he needed as he needed. The 39 was in a similar state as the GMC CO. We also restored a 39 Chevy sedan, 2x Ford 49 Jailbird (shop trucks)38 Ford Coupe. His son and I were 16 when he started. He was a self made man. Studied hard at night tech then onwards gaining qualifications as an Electrical Engineer. He and his wife built an Electrical Engineering business from 1 workshop to an Industrial Complex. It wasn’t until I was 32 and I’d cut out the sills on my Girlfriend’s 65 Peugeot, shaped replacements from sheet metal and replaced rusted metal that I realised the gift he’d imparted to me at a young age. Salute to you sir even though you’re younger than me. Alex reminds me of my cousin. She was the snot nosed kid in my uncles workshop building go Karts and tinkering with engines. She’s a grandmother with a crazy collection of cars she’s restored herself. She rebuilt her families Engineering Business after it was run into the ground. We were all lucky to be exposed to hands on skills when we were young. Something that happened in 1978 was that we found a garage in a small town NZ which had been a Ford, Chevy dealership since post W2. It had new parts replacements in stock from 34 onwards. It had just been sitting there after the owner retired in the early 60s. An amazing experience. My foster dad and his buddy brought everything. Those parts were used to restore more than 50 different project cars. My dad always had US cars and my uncle was the same importing new cars up until 1978. Sitting in hospital for the past month trying to recover from a broken leg from a fall.

Dennis, I really appreciate it when you started your own RU-vid videos..!! I started visualizing my own fabrications when building model cars with modifications to how I saw different possibilities. That went into my first vehicle, 29 Model A flat back cab. At 19, I sold my 56 Nomad to build a 55 wheel standing Chevy Gasser. The Nomad was highly modified. Tognottis Auto World would give Race Parts at times because I was tearing the centers out of Clutch Disc's, breaking several U-Joints in a weekend. One night, my Drive Shaft ended up looking like a large Tezzler Stick. The Differential broke the mounting pads on the springs, with the Pinion housing taking out my Gas Tank. So after all of that, I decided to sell that Nomad and build a 55 Chevy Gasser. I sold the Nomad on July 4th, 1969, and finished the radical , Wheel standing small block two-tone Green 210 two door sedan by the second week of September 1969. I often see your 55 Gasser in the background. Your daughter Alex is a fantastic driver. Be proud.. Enjoy life and love what you do, and love your family..... Rich, from Northern California.

Dennis I had the same problem with the hydroboost setup on my 54 Ford Ranch Wagon and I also figured the bubbling in the fluid was causing the noise. Dennis, keep doing what you are doing. You guys are fine. You'll get your footing. Thanks for sharing the typical problems encountered when working on a hot rod. Looking forward to see how you resolve them and what it took. Nice work on resolving the power steering issue. I think you had so much air trapped in the system, once you pulled the air, the fluid went down. System was low on fluid with air entrained in it. I would like to see your shifter in the cab and the cable path. How tight a radius you can go with the cable you used and where you sourced the cable. I am working on a 1950 Chevy COE, sorry, 454/4L80E behind the cab. I used all brakes from a 1995 3500HD, hydroboost, master cylinder and front and rear disc brakes (Dana 80 rear) and PS pump.. Point being, everything came from the same truck as GM designed it.

It’s always a pleasure to watch your videos! The knowledge that flows is amazing. I was wondering if the problem persists if you couldn’t modify the pressure cap to incorporate a check valve in a line to the intake for vacuum. Figure out what pressure the reservoir needs to be maintained at and set the check valve for a pound or 2 above that so incase the pump is caveating and aerating the fluid when pressure builds the air would be drawn out. Just spitballin here. Anyway the COE is looking real good and is an engineering masterpiece! Be safe have a great trip to the PIR show!!!
@speedandmarine9066
@speedandmarine9066 3 часа назад
There are a couple reasons for having pressure in the reservoir. 1 is, if you have a small reservoir and high suction rates the pressure helps force the oil into suction. Some of the equipment I work on, particularly some of the older logging processors put either boost or chassis air into the reservoir to help keep all the pumps fed. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I've never personally had any issue running the return into a T or a Y as long as it's sized large enough. I've got 1 bump and 1 dent side Ford I converted to hydroboost running off the stock Thompson pump with a t for the return. Did the same on my 55 3100 Chevy that I converted to hydroboost on the frame so I could run the stock pedals. Although I do like diesel, there is nothing wrong with a nice big block like that and it's a beautiful build no matter what it's powered by.

Thanks Dennis & Debbie, like l have said before, l call you (teacher) and for good reason❕️so simple it's aggravating, while putzing with cars trucks... I have run a steering wheel left to right and over and over until enough air was out of the system to send the vehicle down the road with the customer and the knowledge that the steering would get smoother and quieter with some miles. Thanks Dennis 😊✌🏻🧡 🇨🇦.
@jimdandy2275
@jimdandy2275 День назад
I thought the hydro boost being so much higher than the pump might be a problem since air rises. Maybe a port at the booster would let you vacuum pull fluid up to that level there by eliminating a lot of the air from the pump on up? For many years GM mounted a remote fluid reservoir for additional capacity on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Love your work, admire your skills Dennis.

There ps cap has to hold some pressure with a hydra boost application, if it was vented like normal, the fluid would gravity bleed down and come out the cap. I’ve fixed noisy pumps on cars when people have replaced every thing on it except one thing, the reservoir. I work in ford dealer and found that the fluid reservoir has a screen in it and it would get dirty and not let the pump draw enough fluid and cause it to cavitation and make you think there’s air. Clean the screens and they shut up immediately.

Did you try a different terminator box? You wouldn’t be the first person to get a bad one out of the box. You might want to flow check your injectors, one might be sticking closed and leaning the cylinder out to cause the detonation. For the Hydroboost I use the pump from a 70’s Chevy truck with hydroboost or P30 chassis camper, they use a remote reservoir, I bought a Moroso remote reservoir

Some of those hydro boost systems had a remote reservoir, mounted above the pump & hydro boost valve. This would force any air bubbles into the reservoir instead of remaining in the lines & pump. In other words the highest point in the system should be the reservoir.
