With police on the defense in the U.K., thousands of British soldiers fanned out in major cities. They joined police on patrols to protect potential targets. It's the first such deployment since 2003. Seth Doane reports from London.

I see all these comments trashing The British Army what a bunch of nothing people! I am overjoyed that when I come for my birthday next year there may be soldiers in the streets because I'll feel a whole lot safer. After all the attacks I am very saddened by it all. There must be some way to end the atrocities and the only way I can see is for things like this to happen. Remember who you're friends are!

How come they are wearing ECBA instead of Osprey?

ECBA is better for guard duty and duties such as patrols where there "might" be attacks... Osprey is better for patrolling ground where there may be IEDs because it gives all round plate protection. ECBA is "supposed" to be stab proof and the plates protect the vitals...

I think it makes sense given the real danger of terrorism that since UK law allows for the military to be used inside borders of uk that that resource who has alot of expertise in antiterrorism GodSpeed from America

Yep but they have improved the rifle twice, we are now using SA80A3's

@@Ferraday_ please stop calling it the sa80 !!!!! its an l85a3 all the a3 is. is a face lifted a2 (upper receiver and full rail system) , its also possible in a few year we may come away from the l85 and the l86 lsw, we also have the L129a1 long range rifle witch should also be made in 5.56 to replace the l85 we dont need bullpops any more as we dont have tiny land rovers in service now haha

@@petewasere2000 Its not a replacement for the L85, It is a replacement for the LSW role in the army, its just a long barrelled Diemaco C8

petewasere2000 It’s still an SA80, not much has changed between the A2 and A3, as a reservist, my unit hasn’t got the A3 yet, we’re still using the A2

They protect the main sites and then the armed police can go to other areas. Very simple concept really

If things in US actually got anywhere near as tense or potentially dangerous as in France & UK then am 100% you'd all see elite US Army & Marines patrolling all major US cities as professionally if not more than our beloved French & UK allies..

Uhhhhhhhh this us late, but nope: The max number of troops deployable is 5,100 under Op Temperer.. Not 38,000. Dunno where you got that number from.

You guys feel safer with more armed forces in the streets while you can't even carry a knife? An armed person is an armed person no matter what clothing they wear. It's an old argument but I do feel safer if I'm armed, not a stranger.

Thats just not an option. Even if your armed, you could still be stabbed and killed. They wont know you are carrying one. Plus, if you have a gun, everyone can have a gun, which just isn’t the way we do things here in Europe. Thats also working out for us. And no, the military is more trust worthy than a random stranger. Thats their job. If we can’t trust the military, people who have been trained extensively and are the best a country can offer, how can you trust normal armed police?
