I would argue my problem is the opposite, the episodes stand TOO MUCH on their own. Like they're trying to give each it's own resolution, which makes things feel rushed, because elements are introduced only to get resolved 10 minutes later, when in the books a lot of the time you have to be very patient in order to get a resolution to a lot of character arcs, but they're also smart enough to not just resolve everything at the end go the point it feels frustrating, like something like Kid Cosmic on Netflix. In the show, they introduce the animosity between Percy and Annabeth, and it gets resolved aftertheir fight with Medusa. In the book, that animosity lasts longer and it's slowly being chipped away, which feels a lot mroe realistic and satisfying.
@@AHealthyDoseofFran I mean, I can also see what you said, the opposite problem, where it sometimes feels like the overall story is kind of an afterthought unless you watch the episodes all at once. They sprinkle it throughout, but in the worst way, like Percy suddenly realizing there is a lightning thief, rather than that being a consistent concern since the beginning like in the book feels like they forgot to include it in the first episode and where playing catch up, but I was under the impression they wrote all the episodes out before shooting, so this is just a weird creative decision.
@@HiperPivociarz oh yeah this I totally agree with - I think it may be a little of both of our points? And yeah, there doesn’t seem to have been much collaboration in the writers room. Or at least that’s how it’s feeling
@@AHealthyDoseofFran I'd hate to give the movie any credit, but the fact they open with Poseidon and Zeus fighting is a good way to set up it as the central conflict. In the show it comes out of nowhere and isn't really shown, Chiron is just there.
I feel okay overall with the show. I had some laughs and there are enjoyable moments. The episode 6 info of the trio missing the deadline did not age well with me. I’m waiting to see how the season progresses and how they handle the climax. By the way, you did a good job with the pronunciation of my name. 😊 My last name has always been a little hard for english speakers to pronounce. Your pronunciation was pretty close and good. A tip that I usually give for english speakers is to say the last part of the cowboy phrase “yippee ki-yay”. Calle = “ki - yay.“ Muchas gracias y que tengas un buen día. 😊
I want to love the show because I waited for it for so long, and I love the cast, but it's getting hard. My biggest issue is honestly, that show just isn't fun enough. Feel while watching it is so different from the books. Jokes are rare and very often feel forced. Only a few got genuine chuckle out of me. Also characters don't seem like themselves and act more like they would in Trials of Apollo than in the Lightning Thief. Annabeth and Percy's bond feels off. They lack foundation, partly because they gave all early Annabeth scenes to Luke or Sally, and Percy knowing greek myths stuff changes dynamic between them drastically as well. Annabeth somehow managed to become way less flawed than in the books, but also not having her strengths really shown as well. Book Percabeth works so well, because they complement each other. Annabeth is super smart and is great in planning, but doesn't improvise well and is prone to panicking, while Percy needs guidance, but is great in improvising. Grover may be treated even worse. He is isolated from the other two way too often, leading to whole "friendship trio" dynamic feeling unearned. Also, by this point he should still be super anxious. Pacing issues are very much present as well. Despite everything, I am still trying to remain positive, and hope the climax is handled well. Show absolutely has strong elements, particularly acting and world-building. And just seeing this world come to life still makes me happy somehow. You made a good point about show being made to be binged, I may have more positive experience with it when I binge it after it finishes airing.
I think you’re right in that the show was written to be binged but I possibly mean this in a derogatory way. When you binge, you don’t have the time to sit with episodes individually and you’re just on this high of consuming content until it’s done. And then once it’s done, everything is a blur and you can’t differentiate between the episodes and you can’t as easily pick out these issues. You shouldn’t have to binge a show for it to be good. The episodes should be able to breathe and stand on their own, especially since there are a lot of people that don’t have the time or will to binge a whole series I love the characterisation and acting, I think the trio are wonderful. I just feel like Annabeth is under-utilised and it’s painful. She’s one of my favourites and seeing her rendered so useless is so so upsetting
I personally feel at the show has elements that are different from the books but it's still true to the source material and has the same story beats and moments from the book but i still stand by my opinion that i,m not a fan of them mentioning Luke's mom early on and the change where they missed the time limit and the solstice passed
Oh yeah it’s still faithful while also being it’s own thing. My problem is also with episode 6 - I don’t mind them passing the solstice date, it’s the lack of panic or fear of it
dam, why does youtube refuse to show me community tab ;_; i'm spamming your videos with my comments anyway though, so you already know my thoughts hahah i'll be sure to share my insight after the finale!
