always The term "vintage" really highlights my age. I purchased this laptop back in 2004. Those were some great times. It was the most advanced computer available then. The price, after tax, was around $1,100. Countless hours were spent in front of its compact screen, doing research, playing games, among other activities. I appreciate it greatly. It's a journey back to days long past, a wave of nostalgia for earlier😍
Unbelievable quality components on the mainboard and everything, some of which were only prevalent on high end laptops in 2010s. I bought a DELL Inspiron in 2004 and compared to this one, DELL was using all kinds of lowered tier components. Definitely a great era for Apple products. Well, today's Apple feels like quite another company.
Maybe a hot take here, but the white plastic is superior and way better than the cold metal that scratches and severely dents. Outside of software and dated hardware, these things are tanks compared to the fragile shit today.
I really like the fake brown dirt, which is actually paint. It looks real good when you do close-up shots, and you can literally see the brush strokes. "Restoration"
That is the first laptop ihad It was 512 mb ram it was the first mac i had , I Have been tried all of apple MacBooks and i have now MacBook Pro m3 chip 96 gb ram The difference between it and the ibook loke the difference bettween bicycle And SpaceShip , thank you for remembering me the good days
Your PFP is so pretty!!!! And I recommend looking into Apple's history. Although I do completely hate them in their current state, I LOOOOOVE their old stuff. So innovative and beautifully designed. You can tell that they were made out of passion!
I wish you would go into a deeper restoration and comment even narrating throughout, but well it’s your thing, you choose what you want the video style to be like. I just wish for example you would procure new metal parts when the previous one is a little bent or has wear marks. And also wished to see you unglue the Apple sticker cause the back of it seemed a little dirty. Great video overall though.
always wet the micro fiber cloth not spray directly on the screen. the liquid can go under plastic and damage connectors. Also change the thermal pads with thermal paste is not a great idea. It's design in that way, you should replace the pads with new one with same thikness. With thermal paste you lose the thikness and probably you have less cotact with the heatsink
I was unfortunately disappointed to discover that I needed an adapter, since the 44 PIN connection does not fir with the newer SATA type. Using an adapter would also create the problem of not fitting both into the computer physically. Not giving up hope, I found a manufacturer in Asia who still makes SSD hard drives with ATA 44 PIN connectors and thus the computer can accept the new drive. They come in various sizes and prices, and include low shipping charges. So for less than a hundred dollars, a solution has been found, and the older computer can be kept running, although it does not compare to its younger brother laptops that are in the Apple constellation, which have SSD drives factory installed. Others have successfully installed SSD drives into older laptop computers, which may extend the life of the products until the owners can afford to replace them with something else.
@@resEG no you don’t need an adapter per se, solid state drives are sold as IDE still and you can get plastic IDE enclosures and put m.2 drives in them: how I know? I did it, many times
@@resEG it's Amiga OS "conversion" (the OS of Commodore Amiga) for old macs with g3 and g4 to transform them in "modern" pc' and run old 68000 amiga softwares too. it's "quite" expensive. the trial rebots after 30 minutes (if I remember well)
Eiad, or someone with a similar name asked whether or not the new SSD drives would fit into an older Apple laptop computer with or without an adapter. Obviously this is the key issue - whether the dimensions would allow a fit for a new drive and possibly an adapter in the very small space allocated for the hard drive bay. I also have an older PowerBook G4 and took it apart before to upgrade the factory hard drive of 40 GB for an 80 GB Fujitsu IDE type drive. Recently that drive also went out, and I hoped to replace it with a brand new Samsung 500 GB SSD drive that has no moving parts, and would of course not generate heat or noise. These both seem to be issues for smaller laptops and for laptops in general.
