👉 This is a really old vintage fire extinguisher restoration. I used all sorts of chemicals on this and it was hard work as it was caked in dirt, grime and mold. I think to be honest in the end, this restoration came out looking really nice!
Hope you like it .

Just gorgeous. You're able to show off the wonderful workmanship that went into making it originally. I wish thing we're made that well still ( dislike the the throwaway society we have become ) By far my favorite.

We found one at an auction for a DOLLAR! Twas' completely filthy and oil stained (well the dirt was haha). We cleaned it up kept it for several yrs and then let it go (for a small profit of course).

Ah yes, the old "Buffalo Fire soda-acid extinguisher". A place I worked in had an old building where there were stored tons of old paper records dating back to the mid-1800s. They had loads of these old copper Buffalo brand soda-acid extinguishers. One was mounted on each end of every aisle and several on each tier. Every year or so they were emptied, cleaned, polished, and recharged. They were in use probably from the late 1800s right on up into the late 1970s. Sometime in the early 1980s they were decomissioned and replaced with modern units. They allowed me and a couple other employees take one or two home.

If you think the Flitz spray is good, you should try the cream. It is the best metal polish...

In another video the restorer used the same product but he said to rinse it with some water to stop the cleaning process so as not to damage the surface per directions on bottle. He then used the Flitz polish amazing results. I have the pretty much the same one but on the label it indicates tested to 500 lbs. It is a General Quick aid foam for fire. It was left outside for well over 20 yrs has a "lovely" green patina but still want to shiny it up. Cheers mate.

Great video! I just bought this exact fire extinguisher at a flee market for $20.00. It has quite a lot of patina on it and I was looking around RU-vid trying to see what I could use to clean it up. Thanks so much!

That was really pretty! I found a 200-year-old brass head and footboard for a queen-sized bed in someone's yard with a make an offer price... they took 35 dollars! It had sat in an antique shop for years and still had the $200.00 price tag on it. It was in pretty good shape metal-wise. It has some small pitting in places but was mostly just filthy and tarnished , god was it tarnished lol. I scrubbed and buffed with Brasso and some other things, I wish I'd known about the stuff you used though. I am swamped with work ( I'm a sculptor) and it was going to take me forever and I really wanted to use it, so I gave up and painted it a gold metallic color lol. Hey, it's pretty but I'd have liked the brass instead. too bad you live across the ocean from me, I'd have had you do it lol.

Save some money next time and first strip the laquer off the copper (laquer thinner should work or paint stripper if it doesn't). Skip the expensive, dangerous chemicals and use equal parts of flour, salt and vinegar mixed together to form a paste (not too thick, not too thin). Apply the paste to the now bare copper and brass and cover with saran wrap...wait 1/2 hr -1 day depending on how badly it is tarnished. Wash it off with warm soapy water and wipe quickly with a cheap polishing paste like Gel Gloss (used for fiberglass tubs etc) any polishing paste will do that is not too abrasive. Then put it to the wheel and wowzas could have saved yourself hours of scrubbing and made your polishing way easier by not having to remove all of the scratches left by the steel wool.

I have something similar it's a hand pump compressor that held diluted pine tar and was basically used as a spray paint device these were also used to paint below the waterline of for instance the titanic. is has a laminated Dunlop rubber hose so it's from between 1900 and 1910. it still works and smells awesome really old-timey construction smell!
