One of the best restoes I have seen and tastefully finished. Exactly how would have done it, if I were a young man, but a lot of hard work I know. Thanks for sharing. I get my 2CV next year, or rather a box of bits, my first Citroen of any kind, not as hard as this.
Wow.....you did a wonderful job there...obviously you are very experienced. I love the fact that you left this old sweetheart in her old dress....I wish you many happy years with this little dream car.Cheers
Fun video. Thanks for the show. Great job getting a classic back on the road. There or in the U.S. or any old cars around the world need a little respect.
It was fun to watch, love how you repaired all the rusted spots the way you did. But some people like that you kept the old look which is nice, as for me I would like to see the whole thing painted one color. There's no other like it so why not.... amazing work though super impressed....
This is one lovely restoration job! I had the same problem with the bonnet hinge on my 1990 2CV6, You can actually buy a new bonnet hinge plus the back part just to weld in. I did exactly that, but I had to weld it outdoors and every time I started the Danish weather came and made it a hell for me, at the end I send it off to a workshop to get it finished.
Excellent work of recovery of this car. When the video is at 9:58 in the photo the shadow gives the impression that it was painted light gray on the hood and below it in a dark gray or grayish blue tone ... would look beautiful. Big hug and best regards ... :)
Good job,Enjoyed the music with the work, pretty cool brakes built into transmission. Looks fun to drive and pictures and scenery of really nice. Enjoy. May need alittle work same on ceiling, fantastic :)
Nice resto, and a good balance without making it all far too shiny. Some of the comments on here can't appreciate what that's all about can they..?..(See below)...I thought the Glass Jar brake fluid reservoir was so typical of Citroen back in the day and kind of cute. Some of that sheet metal repair work was very impressive...Good job....:)
my friend in France is also doing a truckette :) plus your number plates are great : here we are given number plates, lately with "stickers" to show we paid to the state
USA. all states do similar things. they did have metal tabs. Illinois did issue new plates every year until they also did stickers. from Rock Island Illinois. some states make plates showing where the plate is from. In Iowa, they put the county name across the bottom so Davenport shows Scott county...
Nice easy cars to work on, you can take out/change the engine by yourself in half an hour, without the need of a crane. Had to do that once on a parking place a long time ago. The engine isn't heavy you can really lift it by yourself, by comparison when you try to do that with a DS engine you will need about 4 men.
Have you tried soda blasting to help with the restoration? Would be a perfect way to clean off the rust and dirt with no damage to the thin bodywork. Clean up is to simply rinse away, no sand or grit getting into places!
Chaleureuses Félicitation! Chaleureux Encouragements! Excellente vidéo de qualité professionnelle. Didactique. J'ai de nombreux souvenirs associés au 2ch. En particulier en 1970, nous avons été arrêté pour excès de vitesse!
The rust removal was quite a intensive job to this type of car a citroen 2 CV from the 60´s made of thin cheats of metal besides the mechanical engineering it was a bit poor not to mention a total failure but looking to the past I think it was th result of the 2º world war, a proper van for lighter weight transportation. The paint job is unfinished at the body surface ans wheels plus interiors. In conclusion it´s a piece of junk concept van but it moved someone´s lives after the 2º world war on europe, I liked it reminds me the smell of a bakery
Five years ago, my father still had Aka-2CV (1968) in much better in condition that this, but he sent it to scrapyard. I have many photos with it, when I was a child, and the Pyrinees at the background (but south Pyrinees) XD It was a shame.
1A Work. The look is old but the Technic its new. Super work on this Car. i make the same with a Velosolex motorbike build in 1964 . Remove some Rust and paint it with Owato Oil 3 times ,looks like super.
Bose de-Nage it was a rust converter product. The brand is called Julien. Normally you should "paint" the rusted surfaces with it but actually if you rub the rusted parts, we noticed that it got rid of the rust and the original paint re-appeared underneath as you can see in the pictures.
gogetit - How curious, I was convinced the 325 cc was 18 hp, not 12! Need to recheck my memory banks. ;-) Edit: Are you allowed to drive the car with a "hand painted" license plate? That's even more curious. BTW thumbs up for the video and 2CV. :-)
Today’s gospel lesson was Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead. You guys made the2CV rise from the rusty dead. Very impressive, difficult fabrication work.😮
I have a total a noob question: would be make more sense to media blast the body to remove all the old paint and rust? Thanks for the video. I love these old ordinary cars that most people wouldn't necessarily spend the time or money to restore but you are giving them new life, and you are doing it so much love.
That was good fun to watch, love how you kept the car's character, somehow I just like this kind of restoration better than a full respray making the care "to new". But that all depends on what car it's done to. Merci bien !!!
I'd like to own one of these. If I were rich I'd like to have a collection of "people's cars" from around the world. Like the VW Bug, Fiat 500, Mini, etc. My first new car was a Kia Rio which at the time was the cheapest car available on the US market. I already had an appreciation of small, simple cars but owning that car really honed my appreciation even further.
I like that its not over restored , I drive my 1950 Mercury Truck with a little surface rust and a few dents. People like it better than the perfect hot rodded trucks.
I owned DSs and IDs back in the 60s, (in Canada) and a friend had a 2CV car, which I drove a little, What I appreciate a lot on this resto is the original production front end & grille. They should have kept with it, as it has the real 1930s feel, and in harmony with the rest of the body lines. It looks a lot like a scaled down Voisin Aerodyne. Nice job!
I believe they were sold for a while in the 1950's. In the late 1950's or early 1960's the 2CV did not meet certain US safety standards like brakes on all 4 wheels and Citroen decide to completely withdraw from the US market.
The dates are correct but these cars do have brakes of four wheels though. They must have been withdrawn from the US market for a different reason. I guess maybe the body was not strong enough (very thin metal sheets). Just a guess though :)
I saw one of these being driven in Newport beach CA back in the 80s. The kid got way more attention the the Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Rolls that populate the streets. Cool little project
The Old Timer Garage team has shown the dedicated mechanic's procedures for achieving a successfully restored 6 decades old impossible to repair van. Besides containing rusting & corrosion, restoration projects for vintage cars should be encouraged more often worldwide for clearing out the overload in parking spaces.
A very well done job, take a bow sir! I really like the way you have not restored it too much and removed all its time worn character. Takes a lifetime to get this look and like to see it preserved where it does not need to be replaced or restored.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
It is the same as on the 2cv, just a bit stronger. So you have springs on each side of the chassis and shock absorbers placed between the suspension arms and the chassis. I hope that helps.
Great job!!! I just love these little cars! The simplicity of the vehicle is awesome, and they're so engaging to drive. Thank you for sharing this restoration - a job very well done without it becoming a show piece, but rather a working everyday car.
The one that is installed is from a 2cv as well. It was an accessory at the time so the equivalent of an option today and has some value for some people. Personally I prefer the old steel steering wheel.
@@OldTimerGarage Thank you for your answer. Yes the old steering wheel is so good. Very basic but so much vintage ! It remains me the fourgonnette I had in the 60th.
If you parked ANY 2CV, even restored, next to a Ferrari 488 even, it would ugly the Ferrari to death and morph it into a Pinto! Only the French could ever create and successfully market such an ugly beast and have their people love it! AAARRRGGGHHH,!!!
Looks easy on video but one has to be an expert metal fabricator auto mechanic and electrician panel beater and have full workshop facilities including presses to do this work. Your friend was obviously in such a position.
Well done, i cant understand why people abadoned a classic cars and they got broken. Well done, guys, it looks like even more it cames out from factory. people most stop dumbing a classic cars since they are beutiful syled and one of best cars ever made.
