I love that shiny metal! One suggestion. After making that small cuts in the handle, try holding a bare wire in them as lathe turns. Kinda burns them in, blackens them and offers better definition of them.
@customrestoration5317

Thank you very much for watching my videos and giving me advice on my projects, you are right that I could use a wire, but unfortunately I did not think about such a solution, next time i will do this way 😊👍

Whilst it would probably take longer and more work, I'd heat it up then pound back the folds before moving on to the grinder and filing. That said, the result here is a thing of beauty, I always love shiny objects!

Is it better to wet sand with water or oil? What’s the difference? Thx nice work btw!
@customrestoration5317
@customrestoration5317 2 года назад
I am not a professional so I will not be able to answer this question in detail, but in my opinion the biggest difference in manual sanding is that the oil additionally protects our element against rust (until the next processing step) I haven't done with oil yet but you intrigued me and I'd like to try it 😊 Thank you for your support 😊

A very nice handle and a hard polished hammer but only useable as a mirror - a really great job but no restauration.
@customrestoration5317
@customrestoration5317 2 года назад
Thank you very much but why do you think it can only be used as a mirror?
@landcruiserde
@landcruiserde 2 года назад
@@customrestoration5317 Your polished hammer is not new hardenet so you can't use the hammer as an hammer without destruction
@customrestoration5317
@customrestoration5317 2 года назад
@@landcruiserde You're right, but every hammer gets damaged when used, whether it's polished, painted, cast, or made in any other way, but of course it's a shame to use that hammer 😕

Gostaria de ver o martelo ser levado á forja e reforjado sem perda de material. Quanto de material se perdeu com o desbaste?
@customrestoration5317
@customrestoration5317 2 года назад
I really don't know how much material was rejected because I didn't weigh it before and after, but I know this hammer is very heavy so it hasn't lost its properties 😊
@UncleTogie

Nice! BTW, is it me, or was there still rust left in the hammer-hole?
@customrestoration5317

Thank you very much 😊 you see right, there is rust left but I treated it with a substance that chemically reacts with the rust and blocks it 😊

@@customrestoration5317 Thank you too) I'm not sure about the quality of an online translator. I will try to be brief. The fact is that with a wedge made of wood, the tool lasts longer

@@fil950 yes, it is a fact and it looks better, but by driving a metal wedge I could use a lot more force to drive the wedge so it is a good solution when it comes to safety in use, but you are right that it will last longer, maybe next time 😊👍
