Great content Joe! You must have a staggering amount of hours just in research for all of this. It's refreshing to see that you're going the extra mile to assure accuracy with all of the components on K.I.T.T. and the Semi. I love your attention to detail. It really feels like a trip back in time watching all these projects taking shape. Keep up the good work and I will continue to watch.
My mom Always tells me how great growing up in the 80's was. I wish i could visit the 80's. I love watching Knight Rider with my mom. We laugh at Hoff's 1st season hair and all the crazy 80's styles. Plus David Hasselhoff had a beautiful smile.
Joe, this is some of your best content, imo. The dash and all its pieces and parts are an integral part of K.I.T.T. and that is one of the reasons we all got hooked - the idea that the Knight Two Thousand can do all these things!!! Well, anyway. Great stuff. ALSO, AGREE with 97% of what you said in terms of planning. But if I could make a suggestion (again, just my opinion): At 30:20 you describe the original 1984 shifter for your screen-used stunt car and that, because it’s original, you want to leave it. Well, I’m sure I am not alone here, but with many of the things that must be done out of necessity to present a compelling screen-used K.I.T.T., to me, there’s nothing more jarring than seeing an OG car with that huge 1984 shifter next to a pristine dash. It literally takes me out of the moment. It actually stings a bit. Now, if your decision is to stick with your plan, I guess we’ll all deal, but the truth is that you should really put one of those snazzy billet aluminum shifter knobs in there, and just keep the original one as an exhibit. Seriously, just consider the pain and discomfort that KR fans endure when they have to see that gaudy monstrosity instead of a sleek, screen-accurate knob. Peace! -Dan
Really love the idea of recreating the complete S3-4 insert dash. Although I think you should definitely install lights and buttons in the upper console as well. Will look a bit odd being completely blank next to the fully lit dash and lower console.
Making a mold of all the original parts for just in case seems like a wise move. Knowing how all the small "technical filler scenes" were filmed in studio will always amuse me. It was all full practical, low tech, Mac Gyver style. ^^
Have you considered getting some high-quality 3D scans of these parts, prior to the moulding process? That way you'd always have a perfect digital reference, you or others could 3D print parts to fill in/make new bits, and it would mean that the parts would live on well beyond their physical lifespans.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was bugged by how the upper console looked from the outside of the cat. It did look like it didnt have one when seeing it from the outside. That was the only thing throwing off the loook from the outside. Glad to see you're going to fix that. I cant wait to see how the car is going to look once its all done. As always, i enjoy the videos and the content.
Yes, enjoyed the video, thank you! All the dash pieces from the archive and their history, and then the actual exact floppy drive and radio, very cool!
Yes, I loved this video Joe. Fantastic info and super interesting stuff. Always feel it's important to get original pieces / moulds etc. just right and that's what you guys are going for with all the projects here. Gotta be as exact to the show as possible. Love it!
May I suggest that you clearly mark all the replicas with some type of identification panels on the inside with all the information on them so future enthusiasts will know what those parts are so in twenty or thirty years from now other historians will not have to go through all of the investigations that you had to do to verify your original parts. Besides it’s always good practice to document everything
HAHA I have been waiting for someone to ask about that! If you've heard us talk about the Vista Group on this channel, they had a stack of those stickers in their archives, and I just HAD to put one in my workshop!
I definitely like your videos, ive been a follower of your Chanel since the beginning. I watched pretty much every season of knight rider. Keep up the good work
Great video as always. I'm just wondering, if you're going through the trouble of changing the upper and lower consoles in the screen used car to make it more screen accurate, why aren't you converting the shifter T-Handle to the screen accurate aluminum knob reproduction?
Joe I totally agree with how you want to stretch out the upper console to work with shape of the roof. Also regarding the "stage used" dash and consoles, why not get another gutted Firebird and chop it down like the convertible half-car they used on the show? Something that could be wheeled around or mounted to a trailer frame? Maybe that donor car that Ohio Dukes are using after the jump 🤔 Just a thought. I think you need RC3's crew to help you with all of these projects lol. 😃👍
I am in no way a fan of the show or the cars or vehicles that you all have or show on this channel. Ok that being said, I do appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to what you do and it’s this reason that I’ve been following along for the past few months. Because as a professional car builder I believe it’s about the build more than it is exactly what your building. It always helps to have a passion of what your building as you do so good on ya! I will continue to watch your enthusiasm!
Hi Joe, nice to see all this progress of the original screen used pieces an your replica. Hopefully I'll be able to finish my replica KITT next year finally since my PMDs from Miss Catano are already upholstered with your material. And need to get finished the lower console I got from you...😅 Just wanted to ask if you could make a episode about all the additional features and its locations on the dashboard like the surveillance button, eject left right on session one/two, the power window bezel, the SPM/EBS bezel, printer and so on ... If a video on those doesn't already exist... Thanks a lot in the meantime Daniel from Munich
Great to see all these potential projects surfacing and thanks for showing the original parts - sensible move creating a mould from them. Btw, that camera angle at 28 minutes is 👌🏼
I definitely think you should sell the replicas of the original consoles.. I think if priced reasonably, they would sell…. and you could possibly put the proceeds towards the tractor and trailer and upkeep of KITT.
There would need to be a way to brand it so it would be obvious it was a replica somewhere on the inside so nobody could get scammed with it as an original...like you would with a watermark on a document....
What a lovely way to spend my Saturday evening, watching this. Really good. Great to see all the stuff going on. And Great that your friend does those gear knobs for those who need them. Or even collectors. Also nice to hear about why they went for the insert shots. Prob easier to film anyway, but with the kit within the slots - yeah. PS... look at your shot in the car at the end. Almost looks like the Semi and Trailor are "together"... hooked up.
form and paint a piece of 1/8" plexiglass to mount under the front edge to wrap around to the windshield that way you dont have to risk messing up cutting the 1s you have now
i think it would be cool if the upper consol had buttons that light up when you push them , when the semi is done all of those og parts can be on display at bonnies work station
For the 3/4 dash, are the power buttons in the dash functional? The 1/2 had the 4 red buttons, but I remember Michael did press the dash at least 1 time in 1 episode to switch.
Hey man loved the episode! The last time we talked was over messager and I had just watched the episode with the SPM surviving front and back seats and you asked how you should display them! I still like my idea, you could buy an empty shell paint it black and install the seats as they were made to be seen (In a car!) As well as the dash, upper and lower consoles! You wont have to have an engine to deal with and if you leave the rear end in it you could rig a cart apparatus to the front to haul it around! There are plenty of 3rd gen bodies around....again just an idea keep up the good work!!!!
Its a pity that you can't get a custom car shop to rectify the t-top opening so that the original flaps would fit and then so would the upper console. You might also be able to sell the upper console copies to others who are restoring a KITT and make some additional cash for continuing the truck restoration. Where is the printer going to be inserted at because I can remember one episode where a document was spat out of a built-in dot-matrix printer?
Hi Joe A pity you could’nt talk to someone who put the insert dash parts together from Universal. Hopefully one day they might catch your RU-vid channel and reach out;). A. Great interesting video as always.
I have a major question about the length of the trailer and that is what is the exact length of it? The reason that I am asking is that I am trying to complete a set of the graphics so that they can be cut out of vinyl or used as a pattern to paint the graphics on the trailer.
The second shifter is just a later model General Motors piece. It must’ve been a newer car.? I recognize the second shifter though the first one is a TH 350 style shifter. Second one would be used with the 700 R4 style transmission at least going by my experience.
Hi joe another awesome video, always wondered, whos arm is it you see when kitt is put in gear or operating the buttons on the dash,is it David hasselhoffs or someone else
Remove the aftermarket T-tops and return the vehicle to its original, hard top configuration, then use the moulded duplicate of your screen used overhead console to make a fully functional version for this car. The results would be a screen used vehicle, in the condition it was used during shooting.
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial Removing the T-tops is a relatively easy modification, with minimal down time, and the added bonus of not needing to extend the overhead console.
This is the correct shift knob for this particular car. The T handle that is in it now is what was in it when they filmed with this car, so it stays. The 82 round style is what they used in the original 82 cars and in close up shots. If it was there for filming, we leave it!
Very cool projects :) Even when you finish all these projects, that is just a beginning for new kind of videos :D Was the 5,25" floppy disk drive some spesific drive, like maybe Commodore 1541 or some other one with unique design features? Or was it just some standard mass production "PC clone" drive without any unique design features?
Hey man thank you for the video and I was just thinking things that you can make the molds now you can sell some that way you can take that money put it towards the trailer build there's people out there looking for those kind of parts
Wow, that situation with the different T-top structure on the car is really annoying. I wonder why a comany who does T-top conversions would not just try to make the conversion in a way that it's as close to the original from GM as possible so that original T-tops would fit as well.
As always... A mystery to me... KITT's Super Pursuit function... With the lower console. What would be really wild installing the KITT and kaboodle (pardon the pun) in AJ's insert 4000!!!
I would say you guys are lucky that I didn’t buy the car when it was at Pick Your Part. I would have cut the roof off and replaced it with a factory t-top roof. I never in a million years thought I was looking at a real KITT car that day. He just looked like a cheesy clone KITT that someone lost interest in and scrapped.
Add a computer and display, then either a driving game or a drivers testing program. Both would probably work, I bet. Mmm, Nitro Injection Bottom? Like as in "Gone In 60 Seconds" Go Baby Go nitro bottom? I could see it being used for the Pursuit Mode, it's speed boost setup. Will you guys turn the analyzing box into a multi-CD-box insertion location, so you can listen to more then one CD? Heck, would that even fit? As for that old floppy drive, could a more modern harddrive quick exchange setup be compatible, there? Or would that look too off? I would expect Kitt/Karr to have micro camera's, all over. Like near the bumper, so you can more easily look around a corner, using the display screens. Or record your drive. GPS seems a given, as well. So what for computer would you use, then? And how many bottoms can you give a (working) function? Like say alfabet for the GPS? Airco controls, Kitt light & sound effects, ect, ect? Heck, can you even wire the overhead console??? Maybe trigger apps/programs, like say WhatsApp it's video call ability? Who knows what you guys will do, I certainly won't, if only because I ain't you guys. Keep up the good work. And maybe Bonny will be working on a spare console set, in order to fix it or so?
Im going to say on the later shifter knob that the 84 car originally had a t handle type and the swapped to that one so it didnt take up so much room. Not sure what the knob they used is off of. It was either a aftermarket or robbed from another type of car.
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial im not sure then my aunts 84 had a t handle type with the button on the side. I must be confused i thought you said it was different than the 82 and changed it for the show.
I love knight rider and K.I.T.T but i have to be honest, in terms of replica fan made cars enough is enough, i get more excited now when i see an unmolested original 1982/3/4 trans am. I think the nunber of Kitts out there outnunver the amount of original early third gen trans ams
