Just bought one, pretty much the same condition, missing a couple of parts but managed to get everything for a hundred Pounds, Handy couple of videos for stripping it down, but I will be spraying it rather than hand paint, the finish is always so much better than hand painting. Thanks for uploading

Hey R West! You got a good deal for a 100 pounds :) Im happy you got some info out of the videos. I went in blind and had some trouble but it's a simple little machine so it was fun working on it :) Yes i do recommend spray painting it! I had an old beat up spray gun at the time and I have never worked with this Hammerite paint. I am not satisfied with the result I got...I have now a new compressor and a new spray gun and If I find the olive green paint like the original I will repaint it with the spray methode... I hope your lathe comes out perfect and that you have fun with it! I hope you stay around for more videos! Thank you and have a good day!

Hello Colin! It's a fun little machine and one can make useful parts on it! I'm missing the accessories for it tho...I hope I will get the Maximat lathe next. Bigger than the Sl butt still a bench lathe. Thank you for watching!

@@WickedTools I want to thank you also for replying to my comment. I love to do restores also. Mostly I do old lanterns but I'm game for much more also. Currently I'm working on a small, old brass pump type fire extinguisher that contained 25% carbon tetrachloride that i had removed and legally disposed of. Fun stuff

@@toddfraisure1747 No problem 😁 I always like to talk about cool stuff people are tinkering with! I have an small old oiler can in making of a restoration! Some times small things are more fun to work with. Now that pump sounds interesting! Are you gonna film the restoration? Would love to see a pump like that👍

@@WickedToolsThank you for replying! What acid or something stronger than Brasso for the worst brass tarnish I've ever encountered? It's taken over an hour to shine up a 5"x 4" area using my large buffer wheel with black polishing compound. I also don't want to strip the painted lettering on the brass label.

Fantastic! Did you check and service the electric motor? Cleaning the commutator and if needed replacement of the carbon brushes will make this wonderful machine last another 50 years! BIG question; are you going to make a watch? If your able or even just going to try that would be SO cool to see the process from scratch!!! I have no need of one of these, but now I want one just to learn to use it!
@WickedTools
@WickedTools 2 года назад
Hello! Thank you for your comment :) Im sorry i did not film it but I did open the motor and cleaned it. the brushes were 95%. It was like brand new inside! I will change the cable probably in the future and buy or make new belts. And the milling attachment i will make from scratch :) It is a awesome little lathe so if you can you should get one. Tons of fun :) I would love nothing more than be able to make a watch of my own one day! I love watch making. When i will have the proper tools at home I will absolutely try to make it! And one day maybe even a tourbillon :D But that is far out of my skill for the moment:) If you are in to watches i suggest you to check out Clickspring youtube channel! He is an awesome guy and makes one of the best content on youtube imo and Watchfinder & Co. is a grate watch channel to!

@@WickedTools I would not even know where to begin with making a watch. But a suggestion for a video might be taking apart a watch that is one you don’t really care about, but to remake each part just to see if the second watch works? We can learn WITH you!

Thanks for that interesting restoration ; I just purchased my SL and I hope I won’t have to take it all apart ... well not too soon ! 😀 I know Belton made some green hammer laquer at least in spray ... I will ask my mainland retailer about that ... One question for now : 😬 How do you set the correct height of the cutting angle of the tool on such a lathe ?...

Hi Christopher! Thank you! I got it on Amazon. It was from India and it's not an original Emco but it works well. Try Amazon or Nielsmachines website.

I just picked one up too from eBay. Just had to get it. I am currently in the overhaul stage, getting it cleaned up and learning about how all the parts interact with each other. I posted a video on my channel unboxing my Unimat. I would love to get your feedback on the condition and such. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ImLhOnL4-_s.html

You can get an extra inch or two of space if you just put the center in the hole in the tailstock.
@WickedTools
@WickedTools 2 года назад
Hey Eddie! I do put the dead center directly in the tail tock If I need the space. But 80% of the time I make small parts so I leave the chuck in for drilling.

@@WickedToolsHello friends, I have a question and I hope to get an answer. I have an emco SL lathe. I want to make an aluminum flywheel. What is the largest flywheel I can make on this lathe? I mean, for example, can I handle a 2cm radius round aluminum alloy and turn it into a flywheel? The point of this question is can this small lathe handle this size of alloy?

Nice removal of the gorgeous green paint with vintage patina!!!! The blue paint is beyond sadness!!! I always love when I see a vintage Ferrari with an Earl Scheib green paint job!!! Don't you just hate Ferrari Red?????????
@WickedTools
@WickedTools 2 года назад
Im sorry you do not like it. I did try to find hammerd green with no luck. The original paint was chipped and had tinny specs of white all over. The white did not come off. Someone probably painted near the lathe and didn't cover it. I know green would be better or better yet the original. But it was horrid in person. Thanks for the feedback and i will try to make things more original next time.

You know, after commenting, I felt bad about what I said!!! Sorry I offended you! I think that if blue works for you, that's all that matters!!! I have a Unimat and it still has the original chipped and soiled green paint. As long as you can use it for making what you want, it doesn't matter if it's old green or new blue!!! Thanks for not making an offending come back!!!! I will try to not be a troll next time! SORRY!

@@WickedTools the mill post would be a decent challenge to fabricate but the milling attachment is cast aluminum. You'd probably have to come up with your own design or find one on ebay. They're there. Yes Hammered Green is obsolete and rarer than the Unimat itself. I just cleaned mine up and left it. It's very tough paint.
