The seats in Hippo, my 2003 Freelander Kalahari are half alcantara, and so look like a scruffy sheep dog. This trick brings them back to looking like new!

Wonderful work! The indent in the backrest can be improved by carefully applying some heat with a heatgun and massaging the surrounding material. Doesn't always cure dents but usually improves it. Short warm-ups and enough time to cool down keep the leather from drying out (plus some good leather care afterwards of course).

Nice one Matt. Your repair videos are always worth watching, not only for the useful tips and information but because you get as stymied and frustrated when things don't work out like all of us do who tackle DIY car jobs, but despite that you always end up smiling. Very therapeutic.

I watched this on my TV using my Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite, but then thought that I had to make a comment. Your reaction to the way this worked so well was like my reaction to making clear a plastic headlight lens! I bought a kit and found that it really did work. Like your Alcantara restoration, restoring the headlight lens involved rubbing it with various grades of ever finer emery paper until the lens was more or less clear. The big difference was that I used an electric drill with a disc to rotate the paper quickly. However, I reacted with total amazement that it worked!

Great result! I did a view alcantara interior details, and in the beginning I always used to shave the alcantara to remove the pilling. Than use sandpaper. But this works faster and very well. Awesome job Matt.

I had Alcantara seats in my T-reg Citroen Xsara VTR Coupe. This is a brilliant way to clean them up - luckily my seats weren’t that bad but I image they’d quickly get in this state. Something very relaxing watching you sand paper the seat Matt!

Unrelated to the video but just wanted to say that your video on the original Merc A-Class set me on the road to my current daily which I just picked up on Saturday. I got myself a '98 A 140 Classic to replace my Rover 75 and it's a gem! I agree with pretty much everything you said in that video it's so versatile and shockingly comfortable and refined for such a small and boxy car.

Very interesting and novel approach, Matt. Since you are effectively removing a thin layer of fabric, I do wonder how often this will need doing and how many times the fabric will take it. Still, for now, a nice improvement.

Great video Matt, I too was out cleaning seats at the weekend thanks to my darling children climbing over and sticking muddy shoe and boot prints over the driver and passenger seats! Never knew you could do that with Sand paper,great little hack!

Well done Matt a great repair and interesting to see it done it’s amazing how many marques used alcantara it seemed some of the cars were plastered with it but it does look lovely with the leather

Great tip. I got some alcantara seats, but they are in pretty good condition. The alcantara steering wheel on the other hand.. maybe it can benefit from this.
