Take a quick tour through CommuniCore East in this video from 1992. Included are glimpses of the population counter kinetic sculpture with the Great American Census Quiz game played on the computers below. The interactive Computer-a-Coaster exhibit let guests design their own rollercoaster using a touch screen, and the trivia-asking robot, SMRT-1, was a favorite of guests using early speech recognition technology.

My father made all the wooden parts for the population counter. I have pictures of him working on it in his shop. We got to go to Epcot in May of 1983, because dad wanted to see it installed and working. We had a half dozen of the figures in the shop for years, we used them as door stops. Sadly when my father moved about 15 years ago they went in the dumpster. But as my Disney addict daughter says “Pappy will always be a small part of Disney history.”

I am always people watching in these old vids. Always hoping to see myself or a family member in the background of someone’s else’s home movies. It’ll probably never happen but I love these trips down memory lane.

In relation to today, it's the area where the Electric Umbrella restrooms are, in the part of Communicore East that extends outwards toward Universe of Energy. It was basically right next to the bathrooms and extending back towards Universe of Energy, behind that entire area. Part of it became innoventions, but I think most of it became inaccessible to the public after the conversion to Innoventions.

@@bakntime2 Yeah, I was going to say I remember the door right behind this area opened up and looked directly across at the UoE lobby area entrance.
