I used the Simoniz headlight restoration kit worked really well took about an hour. That was about three months ago and they still look great. Really enjoy your channel.

The Simoniz Platinum stuff is definitely a big improvement over their old products - good option for us Canadians if you want easy to find detailing gear!

I think I've been using a Meguiar's kit for about 20 years.. And it's done wonders on all of my vehicles.

Definitely the easiest way to do it

My experience the pre made kits dont do the best i have had tons of customers have me restore there headlights and they dont ever come out the best Using the Cutting compound has always worked the best gives the most clarity

Very accurate explanation
@StealthyNomadica
@StealthyNomadica Год назад
Oh, THANK YOU! I was going to buy new headlights. The compound comes in a large container and if I did a side hustle polishing the headlights on all my neighbors’ cars, it would definitely pay for itself AND “skin a cat” an entirely profit-generating way! 🙀

Very true, I've seen businesses that focus just on mobile headlight restoration!

Excellent step by step video! Thanks for making this as I have been wanting to do my 06 4 runner for years. What a difference it makes in appearance with clear looking headlights. My only suggestion is that you mention what you were spraying on the headlight when sanding? I do not think you did unless i missed it. Next time you do this you could show how much product you applied before the buffer and polishing steps😃 but other than that absolutely excellent step by step video! Thank you for taking the time to make this when you were sick!👍

That spray bottle just had water in it. As for the product amount on the pads, I just go by feel - a few drops. I'm never super strict on that when polishing cars

@@CanadianGearhead ahh just water. I thought maybe it was Isopropyl alcohol 20% as I have seen others use that during similar processes. Good to know. Few drops ok sounds good. Was curious since you are very knowledgeable on all this stuff wanted to see what the pro was using :) Thanks again!!

Very nice vid, and a very common problem. Sadly I took the lazy man's way out for my 4th gen and just bought whole new lenses. At least I have this for next time.

If you can afford it, there's nothing better than getting new ones!

Around 2003 almost every car manufacturer went to plastic headlight housings

Its common on any 4runner from 4th to 5th gen The 3rd gens and before are glass Headlights

I had my 4 Runner windows tinted. I asked about my headlights needing restoration. After polishing, he applies a tint to the headlights. What do you think about that idea? Hummm
@CanadianGearhead
@CanadianGearhead Год назад
I would never tint headlights but he might be putting a clear paint protection film over top which could be helpful

Odd question, where did you or would you purchase the bug deflector for the 4th gen?

There it is! I knew it! Good detective work on that teaser you had out yesterday. Awesome project and the headlights turned out fantastic! I'm glad I got to participate in the pole and I voted for headlights! I need to get it done on my GX470. I have done it on my Xterra (Cerakote kit): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cfv5cdPhF_I.html and my friend's SX4 (Harbor Freight kit): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A0Cm4DPj59w.html

I think this is one of the best ways to make your car look newer aside from a full paint correction

@CanadianGearhead Год назад
I disagree. I watched your video and it's definitely lacking clarity. That's a band aid fix and it won't last.
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle Год назад
@@CanadianGearhead clarity is on point but might not show well in video,. Obviously it won't last forever, but it lasted 6 months-1 year ish, at which point I sold the car so I can't tell you how long after that it did or didn't last. Had I kept the car and it came back it would have been another 4 minutes and $0 of work. 4 minutes and no money once a year versus 10 products and how much time?
@CanadianGearhead
@CanadianGearhead Год назад
@@YouMotorcycle The purpose of this video was to show people how to do it the proper way. If you'd rather do mediocre work, that's great. Saying toothpaste does the same thing is 100% misinformation and your own video proves it - there are still blemishes visible.
