This is what I found at an estate sale. This monster was used Madonna's "Hung Up". It was really dirty, but from outside, only handle was missing but there were no chips no cracks, in perfect condition. I had a really fun time restoring this Ghetto blaster. Enjoy!!

I think people are missing the point completely. We obviously know this isn't a super high quality hi-fi machine of musical bliss. What it is, is a great piece of 80's history that is in excellent condition. The man took pride in taking the time to bring this machine back to its original glory for whatever that's worth. It's obviously a hobby and to me it garners respect. Good job brother. It brings back memories of times past.

Oh yeah! It reminds me of the ghetto blaster I had as a kid. I didn't know anything about speaker impedence at the time and soldered additional screw terminals to the speaker leads. When I was home, I connected my two house speakers to it. It was loud and I was proud of it until it eventually fried the amp.

This is what teenagers and young adults wanted back in the day. People take so much for granted now, not understanding that back in those days (especially the 90ts where everything went lots faster technology wise) it was amazing . All the today’s youth knows is game consoles and phones. I do not envy this generation of boredom I really don’t. I remember my first pc, that was a 486dx2 that ran on 66mhz in “turbo” mode. Now my watch has more processing power than my first pc. I am glad I got to witness it... This boom box? No different , without this !? You probably would have not had the Walkman and disc man and such .

Amazing machine. I can dimly recall them being sold, and also one by "Crown" among other names with LED disco lights. But I never knew the speakers were fitted with an LED each on these. Very good job you've done there. Amazing what a bit of attention from someone who cares can do.

That's pretty neat machine! Tech back in that day sure had lots of mechanical parts compared to now days which is just computerized. That was a pretty cool lil' "tour" of sorts of how audio equipment of that era was. Still works today. Given some gear (DAC devices such as Cassette adapters, Arial Transmitters, etc etc), that thing can NEVER be obsolete, which is the most beautiful thing about Audio gear.

@@teddyhashee Indeed I did, I feel very lucky to have been around in the very early days (for the UK anyway) of breakin'. A friend of mine had a relative in the US who sent cassettes over, with recordings of Chuck Chillout & DJ Red Alert, on Kiss FM in early 82. Nobody else we knew had heard this music, so we were unique in our area ! Of course, as soon as we saw Wild Style in 83, we learned a lot of moves from that film ! We had a few large boom boxes, my best was a huge Phillips model with detachable speakers, Model D 8534 , I bought a 2nd broken one and put the speakers on my own, so had 4 speakers it was huge. It was covered in tags/graffiti so ruined by todays standards...

Hi Teddy, it appears at around minute 1:20, that you clean the tape deck command buttons with alcohol. Is this solely to clean them and is there anything you could recommend to shine them up and restore them with? Thanks!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 4 года назад
Use alcohol only for the metal, on plastic you want to avoid using alcohol because it will damage the color. Instead, you want to use goo gone for the plastic, and then plastic cleaner.

You know... we had precious few options back in the 80s when it came to boomboxes here in the shithole country I survive in. Of those options there was nothing remarkable, really. Just a bunch of small Sanyos and that was it. Maybe that’s the reason why I’m so fascinated by these damned things. Such intricate and maximalist designs. Truly a lost art. In this particular model I specially like that the bulk of the sound system resides to the right of the tape decks. Very cool indeed!

When I saw Disco on the silly radio I thought that this may have been the one I remember from the mid 80's with a little rotating disco freaking light in the middle of the hilariously gigantic radio. All of these novelty ones were cheap made up name Taiwan or Hong Kong imports. China still didn't import much stuff back then.

This machine, inside module is very simple. I am working another discolite now, and this time try to add the Bluetooth.

I remember seeing something like this for sale at Woolworth, probably 89 or 90. It was quite expensive and didn't sound very good. I was about 12 and remember thinking that something smaller and less flashy from Panasonic would sound better and be easier to carry.

Yeah, I recall seeing these at Woolworth at around the same time too and while it could crank loud it wasn't the best sounding thing, and the floor model example had the azimuth for the tape decks so far out of adjustment , and lots of hiss turned me off to it as a result. But that 7 band EQ and 4 big speakers.. The price was around $189 or so for this boombox. I really wanted one but had some Fisher boombox that I thought was far superior to it but in reality wasn't - lol.
